13440676, Hurricane Ida: Is Anybody On The Ground In New Orleans?
Posted by spirit, Sat Aug-28-21 11:16 PM
Storm is supposed to make landfall on the anniversary of Katrina.

Is anybody who posts here in the city? What’s going on down there right now? I read that as recently as yesterday, the mayor had not designated a central place for people to seek shelter who stayed in the city. A different source I read today seemed to say that the convention center would be that place (deciding that in the last 24 hours seems horrifyingly inept). What is happening down there?

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)

Mayor basically said she didn't issue a mandatory evacuation because there wasn't enough time to get everything coordinated, and sheltering-in-place is still much safer than being trapped on a highway when the storm hits.

The surges from this hurricane are expected to be pretty big. Kinda worried about this storm causing some major damage.

Ida's now a Cat-4 hurricane: https://apnews.com/article/hurricane-ida-115ff1a54e18d9eee61a81afa8df9fad

this storm to take the heat off of Afghanistan.

I saw a storm reporter get run up on by some crazy nut at the beach in Mississippi. America is done.

I’m not sure I’d have the strength or courage to live thru it.

Apparently Manhattan got screwed up something fierce. That was no normal storm, I tell you that. Buying flood insurance in Manhattan will probably be a thing going forward.
