13438701, Eviction moratorium is over
Posted by Binlahab, Sat Jul-31-21 10:02 PM
& it's not NEARLY enough people talking abt this utterly failure to lead on the part of the Democrats nationally.
13438702, It’s always the Democrats fault

I mean the republican party is so easy to lead and they are so willing to do the right thing, right?
13438703, Right, all of this right here
Posted by calij81, Sun Aug-01-21 12:04 AM
Democrats fought for it to go on as long as it did. If it were up to the GQP this wouldn’t even have happened and it would have ended far sooner.

Dem majority in both chambers and the white house and they can't even do the basic shit right
13438709, What 10 Republican senators are gonna vote for it?
Posted by Reeq, Sun Aug-01-21 09:20 AM
13438708, The far left doing the Republicans bidding as usual.
Posted by Reeq, Sun Aug-01-21 09:19 AM
*Zero* anger at the do-nothing Republicans in Congress or the Republican majority Supreme Court who prohibited an extension of the moratorium past July 31st.

13438722, absolutely their fault.
Posted by will_5198, Mon Aug-02-21 12:33 AM
they love not doing shit. because they don't give a shit about you or me.
13438710, Maybe the Green Party members of Congress can fix it.
Posted by Reeq, Sun Aug-01-21 09:33 AM
Oh wait...

13438711, America is doomed in so many ways, and don't even know it
Posted by kayru99, Sun Aug-01-21 09:37 AM
A sudden influx of mass homelessness during a viral pandemic, that is still escalating due to variants, shit communication and no public health system;

A sudden influx of mass homelessness in a housing market that is just outright unaffordable for people;

A sudden influx of mass homelessness during a rise of anti-homeless legislation nationwide....

And Congress is on recess this month.

Just how much does it take for Americans to organize and fight back?
13438728, everything is working just like they intended it to
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Aug-02-21 07:52 AM
I know people needed relief but not paying rent for months was a terrible idea.

Now I’m hearing states have cash they are just slow to release it.

and if I’m a landlord where does that leave me and my property since I wasn’t receiving rent and the bank is also knocking on my door?

Banks about to swoop in and snatch all this shit up.
13438751, This is awful. It seems like a domino effect is set for an awful winter.
Posted by napturalmystic, Mon Aug-02-21 12:12 PM
In the pandemic people need to be housed. We are surging again.
13438779, Real Question: What would be the reasoning for extending the moratorium?
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Mon Aug-02-21 04:22 PM
Is it to stop evictions in general or to stop pandemic-related evictions?

From what everyone is telling me, including other posts here, its an employee job market these days.

Also, what about small time landlords? Seems unfair to extend the moratorium on evictions when there is no mortgage relief.

13438786, To keep people from being evicted in a worsening pandemic?
Posted by Binlahab, Mon Aug-02-21 06:37 PM
To ensure the housing market remains stable?

To calm irrational fears in the wider economic structure?

To avoid 2008,pt 2?

on sabbatical.

does it really matter?

wonder what bin's doing?

13438805, it was done to help those who lost jobs during the pandemic
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Aug-03-21 09:15 AM
and while it sounded like a good idea we all knew it wouldn’t last forever.

Who will make landlords whole for this?

and we all know who will suffer the most. Black folk.

If someone tells you to stop paying something like rent you better continue paying it or paying it into a savings account because they are coming for that back rent.

Talk about a set up.

13438807, We got lucky where we have rentals
Posted by tomjohn29, Tue Aug-03-21 09:22 AM
Virginia has a rent relief program
So does the city of Alexandria
Both our renters lost their jobs
relief covered it...but we told the renters when the moratorium is up you gots to go
they both got job around march/april again
they were out july 1st
places are already rented again
we got lucky
13438861, We were too but alot of landlords weren't
Posted by Cocobrotha2, Tue Aug-03-21 01:09 PM
My only tenant that lost their job was already on Section 8 so they just ended up getting more assistance.

Many landlords weren't as lucky. And there were definitely some tenants who never lost their jobs that gamed the system and just stopped paying rent as well. I don't know what the endgame on that decision was but if you're not going to bailout the landlords (forbearance isn't a bailout since those delayed payments are still due eventually) then you at least gotta let them get their properties back so they can find tenants that can or are willing to pay.
13438883, yeah.. everyone knew this day was coming
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Aug-03-21 02:01 PM
and some of these people definitely gamed the system and while there is nothing wrong with getting a little more money from UE or using the moratorium to stack some bread..

you still gotta pay rent.

put something on it at least.

13438866, is it true states have millions in federal rental assistance forms that...
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue Aug-03-21 01:19 PM
they're just sitting on?
13438881, I believe so.. think only 10% of funds have been released by states

13438901, Biden does not care.. Pelosi does not care.. Republicans don't care...
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Tue Aug-03-21 03:27 PM
...this country is fucked

13438906, This illustrates what I think is the looming disaster for Dems
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue Aug-03-21 04:10 PM
I've been thinking that the biggest political issue for programs like this and UBI in general is that I don't think voters will ever reward the party that gives them it but you can be penalized for not giving enough or cutting benefits too soon.

13438916, well maybe Dems should do some shit people will remember
Posted by will_5198, Tue Aug-03-21 05:17 PM
getting credit for "not being as bad as the GOP" is basically their strategy

which is a very shitty strategy (if they actually cared)
13438980, Things like the ACA? How about that child tax credit people are
Posted by calij81, Wed Aug-04-21 11:51 AM
currently getting? About to hopefully get an infrastructure deal done. Possibly a second big reconciliation package through.

I suppose we already forgot about that ACA. How many potential lives were saved from death or financial ruin during this pandemic because they actually had insurance through the ACA.
13438987, ACA is a band-aid on artery wound
Posted by will_5198, Wed Aug-04-21 12:14 PM
and the majority of the Dem establishment is there to please their health insurance mega-donors and let the non-rich die
13439010, I’m not mad at this child tax credit coming early.. lol
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Aug-04-21 03:14 PM
throwing damn near all of it in their 529

also got a nice refund I wasn’t expecting since we filed before the change in midMarch.

13439015, Them Biden Bucks and expanded child tax credit is nice
Posted by calij81, Wed Aug-04-21 04:09 PM
Especially for the people who need it the most, which is basically everyone with a kid or kids but especially working class poor and poor people because those monthly bills don’t wait for you to file your taxes.

Hopefully the DO NOTHING Dems and barely better than the GQP can make it permanent.
13439016, how can they with the ultra left ready to 2000 2016 again?
Posted by c71, Wed Aug-04-21 04:13 PM
yep
13438910, biden announces new targeted eviction ban.

https://twitter.com/axios/status/1422667401917870091

i could be wrong but i believe changing/narrowing it makes it slightly more likely (though still unlikely) to survive a court challenge after the 1st one was struck down. and in the event that it gets struck down…it will at least be in effect for a few months until then and save a lot of people.

repubs game the legal system like that all the time with shit like passing slightly different voter suppression laws than the ones that courts struck down. good to see dems learning how to play the game to.

it generates good headlines for biden, keeps people in their homes, pleases dem voters, and elevates the profile of cori bush (who demonstrated for days to get the extension).

it also clearly puts the blame on the courts if it gets terminated (which a lot of people overlooked with this last one).
13439011, hmmm..............
