13437960, Men, do you own or wear jewelry?
Posted by double negative, Fri Jul-23-21 12:53 PM
The youtube algo got me, I've been watching a lot of watch influencer content lately.

1. Goddamn, I am never not surprised at how many rich people there are in the world.

2. Watch collecting is fucking weird.

3. Luxury watches are just "acceptable" jewelry for (white) men (of certain means) - and like other things the culture flows from the top while also flowing up from the bottom. Rappers want to exude wealth and class. Rich people want to be "in" and cool.

so, through a combination of growing up dirt poor and through layers of my own psychology at play, I've never owned jewelry or nice jewelry.

Even now, on my ring finger, I'm wearing a silicone band.
I wear silicone because I still work with my hands and I am freaked out about ring avulsion - but still, I could maybe stand to have A work/date night piece.

I grew up with scarcity I don't think jewelry is a sound way to spend money and I think of it as something that will have to be sold off to be able to eat because I'm simultaneous still "there" mentally of being poor - but I'm also just mad uncomfortable spending that much dough on something even if I could afford it.

I'm going to just save all of this for therapy. Goddamn.

13437964, just watches and the wedding band..jewelry is gross to me

For what it's worth, I was "there" for a while because I literally couldn't afford it, but now that I can afford it, I find myself battling between what I want to wear, how much I want it to be of a certain quality, and how to practically think through how much I choose to spend on each piece

Short answer to your question: I currently rock beads and a watch. I will likely own two chains soonish, and may look into rings and bracelets at some point in the future. I do think it's a form of expression and I like the way I look with jewelry on
13437969, Of course

Two chains. ©️

One jade buddha pendent

Gold bracelet

I'm hairy like George the animal Steele I enjoy having my chest hair out with my chains nestled in there like a golden garter snake
13437975, my husband has a cuban link chain

.
13437980, 20 dollar wedding band, 80 dollar watch. that's it.

now, both look nice and have fooled some folks.

i don't even know if those things are even considered jewelry. i don't consider them to be unless you wanna get wild technical about the wedding ring but that's not jewelry to me - that's just a requirement, LOL.

only expensive thing i'd ever wear that isn't shoes is a watch. i'd love to have a collection of expensive watches but the way my bank account is set up...

but i mean, earings, chains, bracelets, etc? not for me.

Yup…

Rangs, bracelet, watch and chains, dangle earring

Sitting somewhere between a flamenco guitar player and old african slanging incense and telling the future.

First its an easy collectible from world travels… paris, middle east, mexico, Native American jewelty etc..

And I just like that it easily steps up a fit…

And rap life
13437982, nope.

13437993, No, not anymore

Since I've gotten older I've really stopped wearing jewelry altogether outside of my wedding ring. Just don't have the same interest I once had. My wife jokes now that the only thing I wear is a fitbit these days after all those years of chains, watches, and rings lol
13438007, Haven't bought any since I lost my class ring.
Posted by JFrost1117, Fri Jul-23-21 07:29 PM
So, late 2002. I don't really have an interest in it, and it's one less thing to be stolen, broken, or lost somewhere.
13438101, For me, it's slave shit and...

It advertises your wealth to wolves already hungry. IMHO, the media marketing
strategy of encouraging black society to pursue jewelry as status is an attack on black society. Enjoy your riches fellow black man and black queen save those resources for your family and or invest them in things that appreciate in value.
13438167, I am shopping for a herring bone.

Was never a jewelry person other than wearing my wedding band. Owned a few watches in the past that I hardly wore. Recently purchased an Apple Watch. I’ve actually been looking at gold chains lately. I want a small rope chain and/or a Franco chain.
13438756, white/black quartz on a gold chain
Posted by infin8, Mon Aug-02-21 12:34 PM

I own a few watches

13438761, nah.. wedding band and apple watch
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Aug-02-21 12:47 PM
