13436922, Tipping poorly (has this happened to you?)
Posted by handle, Thu Jul-08-21 04:09 PM
I went to the car wash to get my seats cleaned because I had a coupon - the service was like $60 for everything - so I paid with credit card.

Well when the car is done I realize I have to tip and my wallet had 2 Twenties and 3 One dollar bills.

They have no change, they have a cashier about 40 yards away but there is a line and the cars behind me are piling up.

So I tipped $3 on $60.

I'll bet they're talking about it still :(

I'm considering calling the manager and telling them what a great job the dude did - maybe that'll get him on the manager's good side.

Ever happen to you?
13436924, i think only in group settings at a restaurant
Posted by mista k5, Thu Jul-08-21 04:25 PM
usually we can cover a good tip between us all though if for some reason we're leaving it in cash.

kind weird for them to not have any change and only take cash tips. i probably would had left a 20 in that situation especially if i was planning to go back at some point. what would you had tipped if they had change?
13436927, I'd have tipped between $5 and $8
Posted by handle, Thu Jul-08-21 04:33 PM
>what would you had tipped if they had change?

The coupon took off $10 :)
13436931, The coupon doesn't cover the amount of the tip.
Posted by Nopayne, Thu Jul-08-21 04:53 PM
They aren't seeing any of that $10 off.
13436934, I know, the coupon saved me $10 tho
Posted by handle, Thu Jul-08-21 05:02 PM
>They aren't seeing any of that $10 off.
If I'd have had a $10 in cash I'd have probably given it to the guy.

My normal inclination would have been $6 or $7.

I only tipped $3 :(
13436991, from what I heard you are supposed to tip based the actual amount
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jul-09-21 09:48 AM
of the service not the coupon amount too

one time I worked in Philly at a print shop and would hook up the restaurant down the block with menus at a reduced price. Dude said to come in for dinner and he would return the favor.

He gave my wife and I a full course meal on the house. I tipped $20 and my wife was like “Damn!!! What are you doing??” I replied. We just had an amazing $80 meal for free.. why wouldn’t I hook dude up with a nice tip?

13436932, nobody carries cash in 2021 fam you should've asked for their cashapp
Posted by ThaTruth, Thu Jul-08-21 04:53 PM
13436941, he is just cheap af.
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Jul-08-21 05:47 PM
because he admits he had cash AND they had change but since there was a line and he had to “walk” he said fuck it..

and to top it off he didn’t say he would circle back to tip dude he said he would sent an email on some “good job kiddo”

handle is at that age where they start holding onto that money.

now I wonder if the kid who did a good job was white? prolly not.
13436944, ...
Posted by handle, Thu Jul-08-21 05:55 PM
You need to get banned for a bit, shit's WAY out of line.
13436977, banned for what? you were too lazy to get change
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jul-09-21 07:53 AM
and now you feel guilty but not guilty enough to go back and make the kid whole

13437013, basically, it was established in that other post the new millennial...
Posted by ThaTruth, Fri Jul-09-21 10:59 AM
"I don't carry cash" just means "I'm a cheapskate"

like they're really out here asking for people's cashapp or QR codes lol
13437021, Lmao no it didn't. stop.
Posted by Cold Truth, Fri Jul-09-21 11:25 AM
13437023, lmao.. pretty sure that dude is not a millennial
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jul-09-21 11:36 AM
and he had cash.. he just didn’t want to give it.
13437030, RE: lmao.. pretty sure that dude is not a millennial
Posted by ThaTruth, Fri Jul-09-21 12:17 PM
>and he had cash.. he just didn’t want to give it.

the "culture" has made him think its ok not to tip, just send a nice email to their boss lol
13437031, lmao. dude asked if anyone had money and refused to tip
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jul-09-21 12:32 PM
out of laziness

and he saved $10 with a coupon

the audacity of it all.

and saying I should be banned is confirmation that attendant who did a good job wasn’t white.
13436945, I will actually ride with Truth here. This is where it comes into play
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Thu Jul-08-21 06:06 PM
I always get mad stressed when i remember I have to tip lower wage earning folks cash:

car washers
parking attendants
Full service gas attendants
doormen
concierges

etc.

Ive avoided getting gas sometimes for that reason. In general though I hate full service gas, fuck jersey.
13436946, I didn’t know gas attendants were still a thing
Posted by DJR, Thu Jul-08-21 06:14 PM
I haven’t seen that in 20 years. I used to avoid the gas stations that had them too because I felt like a punk asking somebody to pump my gas for me.
13436951, lol yup
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Thu Jul-08-21 06:24 PM
I felt like a punk asking
>somebody to pump my gas for me.

I think certain states are full service

NJ and Oregon come to mind
13436981, wait, you're supposed to tip the gas attendant in places where they are mandatory?
Posted by Cenario, Fri Jul-09-21 08:46 AM
mandatory? if i have a choice and i use an attendant, of course i should tip. but where i'm forced to use an attendant...nah
13436984, yeah, that sounds like a rip off
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jul-09-21 09:22 AM
13436952, *daps*
Posted by blkprinceMD05, Thu Jul-08-21 07:01 PM
13436953, You should have just tipped one of your 20s. Pay it forward
Posted by blkprinceMD05, Thu Jul-08-21 07:02 PM
13436955, there is no way you're not catholic
Posted by bearfield, Thu Jul-08-21 07:25 PM
or at least lutheran. it might be in your best interest to learn how to deal with this guilt. either "fuck it i did it" or come up with some kind of voluntary community service-oriented penance
13436956, bruh..you 'gave' your friend a million dollar but cant tip a ten or twenty? lol
Posted by rdhull, Thu Jul-08-21 07:26 PM
13436958, got my car cleaned and drove off right after.
Posted by tariqhu, Thu Jul-08-21 07:32 PM
just wasn't thinking because it was a drive through, but they detailed and did the interior after.

shit was looking right too. I promptly said thanks and drove away. then I remembered like oh shit! but I was on my way to Bama from GA.

Luckily, it was a short trip. on the way back, I stopped by and gave him $15 and an apology.
13436962, Nope. I'd have either sucked it up and given the 20, or, you know... got change
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu Jul-08-21 08:36 PM
Fact is, absent signiticantly more context, you were straight up too lazy to get change and come back.

There's no way around it.
13436976, This post just made me realize that I never tip when my car gets
Posted by soulfunk, Fri Jul-09-21 07:43 AM
detailed. Never even crossed my mind for some reason, which is weird because I always tip at the basic carwash...I get the $10 wash and have them put an extra 5 on my card for a tip. But when I get a detail (which is anywhere from 150 to 300 depending on the level of detail I get) I never even thought to add a tip...

Maybe because a detail feels like more of a car maintenance/mechanic type of service? I mean no one is tipping when they are getting new brake pads installed, tires rotated, or an oil change. But since I always tip at the regular car wash now I feel like a jerk...
13436980, I usually overtip out of pure guilt...
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Fri Jul-09-21 08:43 AM
13436989, I overtip occasionally to kill that stereotype
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jul-09-21 09:43 AM
but I’m not rewarding bad service with a healthy tip out of guilt.

I tip on carry out orders since the pandemic hit too.

but if I lived in Jersey there is no fucking way I would tip every time I got gas.
13437002, I tip extra too.
Posted by tariqhu, Fri Jul-09-21 10:17 AM
My wife used to be a server, so she helped me with it.

I did once just leave a note on the receipt tho. $1 tip and wrote do better. He was terrible.
13437022, my college roommate schooled me on tipping
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jul-09-21 11:29 AM
he was a waiter

and when I bussed tables at an upscale restaurant I saw first firsthand what them tips do
13437006, ..I tip for gas if they clean the windows
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Fri Jul-09-21 10:42 AM
13437126, man, you could’ve gave him a twenty lol
Posted by Trinity444, Mon Jul-12-21 01:54 PM
it’s never happened to me…

if I got it like that and the service good, it’s the twenty. the manager may not like him, company policies might suck, etc…

13437151, they really do love speaking to managers…
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jul-12-21 03:47 PM
13437153, Nah I'm always planning for the tip when I go out
Posted by Lach, Mon Jul-12-21 03:53 PM
I like to take care of the waiter/waitress as if I was the one serving.
