13437035, there is a well-defined ceiling to his music Posted by bearfield, Fri Jul-09-21 02:18 PM
>Vince has a classic in him, but he always leans away from >that for some reason. I think he's so cynical that he knows >they say "short songs are in right now because... playlists, >tik tok attention spans" so he's like, okay we're gonna do >short songs. If his interviews are to be believed, he just >kinda sees music as a means to an end, and as long as that's >his view... he'll probably continue to be entertaining but... >light.
because of all this (well-stated, btw) but specifically his "making music is my job" attitude. there's nothing wrong with that approach but a classic is unlikely to be the product of that mindset. classics are borne of unpaid OT and coming in early and on off days, not M-F 9-5. maybe he's putting in the extra work but the music i've heard from him doesn't feel like it has that additional effort put into it. but i tend to think his press tours and interviews are more interesting than his music so i might not have the best perspective on his musical output. i think he still hasn't found the right producer. maybe he eventually links up with someone (or a set of someones) that best suits his particular voice and he delivers a really special project
