13432106, so how do yall feel about DC forcing a Black Superman flick...
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu May-06-21 07:13 AM
and the manner and context in which they are doing it?

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/black-superman-ta-nehisi-coates-warner-bros-movie-1234947599/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter

I have a few issues w/ it personally
- there are already several black Supermen in the comics history. use one of those instead of color swapping Clark/Kal-El for the clout. Val-Zod ring a bell?
- knowing they wouldn't let Snyder put Jon Stewart GL in the Justice League like he wanted
- knowing how racist and shitty DC was to Ray Fisher
- THEY STILL HAVENT DONE SHIT WITH STATIC or any of the other legendary, actually black, heroes they have

Warner/DC is just bizarre. They got a pot of gold right in front of them but they want to go all the way around the world looking for another pot of gold that may/may not exist.

13432109, They can't even get traditional, white Superman right. And like you
Posted by soulfunk, Thu May-06-21 08:41 AM
mentioned if they want to to a Black Superhero movie why not use John Stewart or Static? They already effed up Cyborg.

Honestly I feel like DC should just step back and take a break. Maybe focus on animated films for a while. They've done great things in animation, and Into the Spider-Verse from Sony proved that a good animated superhero film will do NUMBERS.
13432114, forcing it?
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu May-06-21 09:34 AM
not sure but that reads funny

Not a DC fan but I don’t give a shit..

they been forcing white people on us all my life.

13432123, the way they are going about it is a force imo
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu May-06-21 10:01 AM
13432238, agreed
Posted by The3rdOne, Fri May-07-21 01:57 PM
13432116, Joivan Wade is better
Posted by infin8, Thu May-06-21 09:45 AM
I support Ray Fisher's fight...but I never liked him as Cyborg, and he sucks in the Snyder cut.

Marvel is makinbg DC lookj like a bunch of try-hard's and it's kinda sad, LOL
13432135, it’s absurd in the post-Miles comic/film landscape
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu May-06-21 11:01 AM
13432119, DC forces all their projects...why would this be different?
Posted by tomjohn29, Thu May-06-21 09:47 AM
With his runs Ta-Nehisi had his pick of properties to do a movie with
He chose this and his writing is determining what direction this is going....Should you be posting to him bout this?
13432153, A feel a new Ghostbusters thing happening again.
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Thu May-06-21 12:53 PM
They thought just rebooting it with women would be enough of an update to make it interesting and then when it sucked everyone (fanboys) blamed it on the fact that it was all women, not because it was just a weakly thought-out written project.

They floated Shaka Kings name to direct it but I hope he keeps his distance. Barry Jenkins can take the hit if it doesn't work out.

BTW, how was TNC's Black Panther run? I tried at least the first issue and found it dry but I wasn't really following BP like that.

13432171, who cares. don't like it? don't watch it *shrug*

i will never understand how/why folks take this shit so seriously

they own the brand and can do what they want. you the consumer can do what you want

canon is always there to rewatch and enjoy, as well.

13432180, No need for this..

This is patronizing to me. It’s a one-off, instead of truly rolling with a
character that can CO-EXIST with Superman.

They don’t want to have competing franchises.

I don’t want a Black Superman. I want a ( black skin)
Kryptonian character with his own franchise.

13432200, is it confirmed a one off?

I take it as they are rebooting Superman again. Just like they are with Batman, etc.

Everyone hates what DC did with Snyder, but get aggy when they want to go a different direction?

They should reboot everything and just drop the shared universe shit. Its extra corny and doesn't really fit with DC it seems.

I love the mad-making that a black superman will create. *shrugs*
13432187, I mean, we have a black Spiderman (and a black Cap)...
Posted by spenzalii, Thu May-06-21 05:30 PM
Not gonna lie, I like Miles, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a kind of way if they replaced Peter Parker. Having both characters exist at the same time makes it better, but still...

I suppose in theory a black Superman wouldn't be the end of the world. But how WB is going about it doesn't sound authentic. And yeah, I'd feel some kind of way about it, even as a black man.

Whatever. It will be a mess one way or another.
13432195, Spider-man is different.
Posted by allStah, Thu May-06-21 07:22 PM
Miles is just an alternate version with all the other alternate versions,
similar to the green lantern.

Venom to maximum carnage to to the alternate verse..just so many spinoffs.

It’s not like Peter Parker is being drawn as black. Miles is actually his own franchise.
I’m cool with that.

13432202, that's not how the GL Corps works.

*skatin' the rings of saturn*

..and miles to go before i sleep...
13432206, I didn’t say THE SAME. I said similar
Posted by allStah, Fri May-07-21 06:59 AM
The corp is a galactical police force with different species throughout
the universe. Different alt versions of Spider-Man aren’t a force or galactic
guardians, but some of those versions stand as separate entities like the different species in the green lantern Corp. There are 100 alternate versions of Spider-Man.
Some are different versions of Peter Parker, while others are different individuals
all together. Miles Morales being one of them.

Miles Morales and Peter Parker have met each other. There is no black peter
Parker
13432215, They're not the same OR similar at all...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Fri May-07-21 10:20 AM
..There are 7204 individual members of the GL Corps operating as pairs in 3600 sectors of the SAME universe.

The existence of the multiverse means that there are even MORE GL Corps in each of those dimensions.

There is only ONE spiderman (or equivalent) in each dimension of the multiverse. That's nothing like an entire armed brigade selected to help police the universe.

*skatin' the rings of saturn*

..and miles to go before i sleep...
13432236, This is not about what they do, but there are INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS.
Posted by allStah, Fri May-07-21 01:49 PM
They are separate entities regardless of how many there are or what they do,
or how many universes are patrolled. Each member stand as its own entity.
Those members aren’t a version of Hal Jordan, no matter if it’s 1 or
7000.

The alternate versions of spider man, who are not Peter Parker, stand as their own entity in whatever universe they exist in.

That was my point. I was referring to the similarities in existence, not similarities in what
they do or how many there are or their story line.

The alt versions of spidey, who are not Peter Parker are not reiterations of him

All those members of the GL Corps are not reiterations of Hal Jordan....

So it would be nice for this Alt Superman to be his own entity, and not
a black version of Clark Kent.

13432196, it seems in line with every other DC decision they've made
Posted by Rjcc, Thu May-06-21 07:49 PM
in that it doesn't make a lot of sense

I don't know what makes this more or less forced than anything else

www.engadgethd.com - the other stuff i'm looking at
13432207, marvel is getting great movies/shows out of their third stringers
Posted by Reeq, Fri May-07-21 07:19 AM
and dc cant even get their franchise players right.
13432209, yup

13432380, ^^^^this is the real shame^^^^
Posted by WarriorPoet415, Tue May-11-21 01:25 PM
Marvel hasn't even touched the X-Men yet. Think about that. And those guys have basically been keeping the lights on at Marvel since the 90's.

13432385, To be fair, superman is probably the most difficult of all super heroes
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue May-11-21 02:11 PM
to make interesting.

Even superhero as a god seems kind of a boring take now.
