at least national dems and dems in swing/blue areas.

its the reverse kasich/ducey/etc. talk moderate and display a bipartisan/centrist temperament. then punch through left wing initiatives in mundanely titled legislation that nobody cares to read.

on the low dude is radically restructuring/redistributing the economy, child care, taxation, public transportation, etc on the low and most people have no idea. because he doesnt 'act' radical. no screaming about 'big/bold change', 'progressive', etc. just using non-charged language to say the same thing without the baggage.

most of politics is performance/feeling. something repubs figured out decades ago. and one of the only reasons theyre still competitive (and get their base to vote for them while hating the actual letter of most of their policies).

its also the reason why ive said that the best way to pass progressive legislation is to not talk about it.

i used the green new deal as a prime example. its been a disaster politically. dems had to scatter away from their own creation when it came time to bring it to a vote untouched...which is...mindblowing.

dems expending all of this political capital on a non-binding *resolution* that doesnt actually do anything but formalize commitment/intent to do something (which has to be passed later legislatively lol). the new deal was a range of progressive laws. the green new deal is a range of progressive promises lol. its really one of the dumbest political handwringings in modern history when you consider the risk/reward and how much time is spent obsessing over it. which is why its so idiotic that dems are now renewing this fight again over something so largely intangible and ultimately meaningless (like most congressional resolutions).

meanwhile blue cities and states have been passing green new deal type policy with very little uproar. because they werent running around chanting slogans and polarizing voters over it. they just did it. the same way repubs have been packing/rigging courts at the state level and people hardly know/care.

if dems dont put it on a billboard...repubs have a harder time attacking it. thats why they cant get anything to stick to biden on the policy level...and theyre left trying to drum up outrage with dr seuss, burger bans, etc. thats why theyre looking like a bunch of buffoons trying to define what a vague term like 'infrastructure' actually entails while the american public couldnt care less because they actually want things like better broadband access, etc.

the biden infrastructure does most of the reorganizing of the modern economy/society towards renewable energy that is embraced by the green new deal...but it just doesnt call itself that. its packaged as a simple jobs/modernization program thats a boon for the low skilled/educated workforce. its not even talked about as some massive undertaking (which most politicians would want to do so they could take credit/praise for it).

shit...dems could pass medicare 4 all a lot easier by not calling it medicare for all. just include public option while gradually reducing the age at which americans are eligible for parts of the same services/benefits in the medicare system lol. that was obamas original plan with obamacare.

seriously do you know how much easier it is for repubs to fearmonger over dems 'replacing your medicare with socialism' than it is to fearmonger over dems lowering the income related monthly adjustment amount of the inpatient deductible and copay per each lifetime reserve day over a 90+ day benefit period? lol.

theres really no reason to run around screaming out a lot of this shit other than political vanity where individual dems want credit for some legislative nameplate. the parts of the dem base that care about that stuff is gonna get their news from the type of sources that tell you how progressive the real contents of a bill actually are anyway. and repubs are robbed of the only prominent boogeyman material they know how to run against.
