situations in the country and world

his own ways and abilities

the Democratic power in the Congress presently

He has not much control of the situations in the country and the world but they haven't been so terrible that he's been overwhelmed.

His own ways and abilities has Biden clearly able to do a good job.

Democratic power in the Congress helped him a lot.

So...

Seems obviously people should just want a Dem elected who can win rather than crap-shoot long shots Nader wastes of time (hello all the Susan Saradon-ites out there).

Except he’s completely different from Trump and he’s done a nice job so far. He’s also not a sociopath, that alone is an improvement.

arizona is a tight purple state so i understand playing it close to the vest...especially to buck the former green party past and win elections there.

but the pride she takes in being a dickhead about it is disappointing.

they havent been the pivotal votes sinking any dem items yet. and manchin has historically been a reliable dem vote on major bills. so maybe its all a superficial 'independent' act on both parts. but its hard to see them wiggle out of the way theyve been talking.

Plenty of progress, but of course the job isn't done yet.

It is interesting to contrast what we're doing with say, a few European countries these bros idealize and want us to resemble.

He has exceeded my expectations on the Covid response alone

He is absolutely crushing Covid

But I never thought he would budge on health care given BCBS’s presence in Delaware
To hear him even mention prescription prices, health care as a human right...blew my MF’n mind

Never thought I would hear any POTUS, let alone Biden, declare trickle down doesn’t work

He has literally adopted every progressive policy
Which is all I wanted heading into negotiations
Ask for it all...then land in between

I salute you President Biden...couldn’t be happier with the first 100 days and very encouraged on the direction of the country

Let’s keep moving in this direction.

Job’s not done...by a long shot

Based on what I’ve seen so far... I assume all options are on the table

That’s the best I can ask for from Joe Buddens

and the hope is to act on other issues before the midterms

Even if it is just talk, it’s language that has been foreign to him before last night.

13431373, damn this reply is surprising (in a good way).

The AOC endorsement saying he has been a good partner is something (although she has faced some backlash from the super progressive of late)

But the deportation issue that is a continuation of Obama's final years is obviously a point of concern, though he addressed it well last night

But Haitians in particular are getting deported at record rates under his watch. Doesn't matter if the root cause is not of his making specifically. He's gotta rectify.

13431342, To be honest, I am just happy if they don't complain as much.

I had a dude who has been wrong on every prediction (he won't win the primaries, he won't pick a black running mate, he won't win the general, etc.)

Dude is mostly quiet these days. Or rather, stopped talking about politics and has gone back to talking music and spots.

The social programs he passed is a great start. Years of organizing has really shifted the democrat's platform and its dope to see.

Immigration/Foreign policy is still deeply concerning. Im hoping we do the right thing and distribute the vaccines amongst the global south without crippling them with debt.
13431371, hes governing/politicking the way ive said dems should do.
Posted by Reeq, Thu Apr-29-21 01:33 PM
at least national dems and dems in swing/blue areas.

its the reverse kasich/ducey/etc. talk moderate and display a bipartisan/centrist temperament. then punch through left wing initiatives in mundanely titled legislation that nobody cares to read.

on the low dude is radically restructuring/redistributing the economy, child care, taxation, public transportation, etc on the low and most people have no idea. because he doesnt 'act' radical. no screaming about 'big/bold change', 'progressive', etc. just using non-charged language to say the same thing without the baggage.

most of politics is performance/feeling. something repubs figured out decades ago. and one of the only reasons theyre still competitive (and get their base to vote for them while hating the actual letter of most of their policies).

its also the reason why ive said that the best way to pass progressive legislation is to not talk about it.

i used the green new deal as a prime example. its been a disaster politically. dems had to scatter away from their own creation when it came time to bring it to a vote untouched...which is...mindblowing.

dems expending all of this political capital on a non-binding *resolution* that doesnt actually do anything but formalize commitment/intent to do something (which has to be passed later legislatively lol). the new deal was a range of progressive laws. the green new deal is a range of progressive promises lol. its really one of the dumbest political handwringings in modern history when you consider the risk/reward and how much time is spent obsessing over it. which is why its so idiotic that dems are now renewing this fight again over something so largely intangible and ultimately meaningless (like most congressional resolutions).

meanwhile blue cities and states have been passing green new deal type policy with very little uproar. because they werent running around chanting slogans and polarizing voters over it. they just did it. the same way repubs have been packing/rigging courts at the state level and people hardly know/care.

if dems dont put it on a billboard...repubs have a harder time attacking it. thats why they cant get anything to stick to biden on the policy level...and theyre left trying to drum up outrage with dr seuss, burger bans, etc. thats why theyre looking like a bunch of buffoons trying to define what a vague term like 'infrastructure' actually entails while the american public couldnt care less because they actually want things like better broadband access, etc.

the biden infrastructure does most of the reorganizing of the modern economy/society towards renewable energy that is embraced by the green new deal...but it just doesnt call itself that. its packaged as a simple jobs/modernization program thats a boon for the low skilled/educated workforce. its not even talked about as some massive undertaking (which most politicians would want to do so they could take credit/praise for it).

shit...dems could pass medicare 4 all a lot easier by not calling it medicare for all. just include public option while gradually reducing the age at which americans are eligible for parts of the same services/benefits in the medicare system lol. that was obamas original plan with obamacare.

seriously do you know how much easier it is for repubs to fearmonger over dems 'replacing your medicare with socialism' than it is to fearmonger over dems lowering the income related monthly adjustment amount of the inpatient deductible and copay per each lifetime reserve day over a 90+ day benefit period? lol.

theres really no reason to run around screaming out a lot of this shit other than political vanity where individual dems want credit for some legislative nameplate. the parts of the dem base that care about that stuff is gonna get their news from the type of sources that tell you how progressive the real contents of a bill actually are anyway. and repubs are robbed of the only prominent boogeyman material they know how to run against.
13431375, btw this is what many of us saw in the biden vs bernie debate.
Posted by Reeq, Thu Apr-29-21 01:47 PM
we dont necessarily disagree with bernie on policy (damn near all of us supported or voted for him at one time)...just that we strongly believed biden would govern better, give dems the best chance of actually passing progressive legislation, and not be an anchor on the neck of the dem party in places like arizona and georgia.

also...i remember someone on here saying that policy guru elizabeth warren would prolly be sort of a shadow president and craft much of the agenda while biden kept most his non threatening moderate/centrist veneer in tact.

i cant remember who it was tho. *wink*

13431378, btw (part 2) biden has had approval among the dem party
Posted by Reeq, Thu Apr-29-21 01:55 PM
topping trump at any point in his presidency. mid to high 90s in some polls. and biden has already closed ranks to the point that nobody even talks about the 'wings' of the party anymore.

it took trump over a year of installing judges, passing tax cuts, non stop disinformation/messaging, purging conservative outlets of trump critics, etc to unify his party to the same degree and get out of the high 30s in overall approval.

you wont catch beltway media framing it that way. every biden success is covered like a tripwire possibly waiting to blow up the entire party at some point in the future.

The petty in me wants more of then to own thru were wrong or put dunce caps firmly on but it’s just distinguishes who was really paying attention.

It appears Bernie is loving Biden too. And he should, pretty much everything Bernie and Liz Warren were advocating has been promoted by POTUS or put in motion

I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you but for posterity here are 31 failures of the Biden administration in the first 100 days.

https://twitter.com/WaitingOnBiden/status/1387767767273705472?s=20

It's the policies not the words that matter and it's disappointing that Bernie and the Squad etc. have become company men and won't call most of these things out.

Biden has done some good like the $15 min wage for federal employees but now that Trump is thankfully gone it looks like people will just happily stop paying much attention and let the status quo continue while believing some of the fluffy headlines about Biden that are never followed through on or willfully undermined by Biden himself.
13431414, now you turned on bernie and the entire squad? hilarious.

I never thought I'd see a Biden headline once or twice a week that put a legit smile on my face, but here we are.

That being said, it's still mostly talk at this point. It'll be a while yet before we can know if this is more than a "good job, good effort" situation or not.

13431382, seriously thanks to anyone who held their nose and voted for biden
Posted by Reeq, Thu Apr-29-21 02:20 PM
even if they didnt have much faith in him.

because we could have easily been brazil or india in terms of covid if trump was still prez.

and just little shit that doesnt make headlines but makes a world of difference...

today the senate overwhelmingly approved a water and wastewater infrastructure bill thatll help upgrade the quality of water treatment/transmission in a lot of low income and rural communities.

thanks to biden (and a dem majority senate) this will be signed into law. sadly...even something as bipartisan and popular as this would have been buried in the mcconnell legislative graveyard if he still ran the senate and trump was still prez...and never even came up on the floor. but with dems controlling the chamber...now repubs have to come forward and actually put a name next to a vote.
