13427394, Exactly! Black music oversexualizes girls, Posted by Mori, Mon Mar-15-21 03:47 PM
I asked all of the girls in my network ages 6-10 who they admire musically. Most said Beyonce, my kid likes Katy Perry, the other black girls don't have anyone musically to look up to.
When I was 8 years old, I would have said Whitney Houston, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Lisa Lisa and maybe MC Lyte.
I just think today everything marketed to girls is hyper sexual. Which is why Kidz Bop is a thing. Every song has a drug or sexual reference. In terms of girls, the sexual reference is usually being sold by a brown skinned woman (Mixed, other, black or latino are all the same to me).
White children have SOOOOO many more music idols and options that frame their childhood outside of selling sex.
