meaning, a foundation will give you money and say it should only go toward the 'program' and not your 'overhead' (meaning utilities, mortgage and sometimes even staff)...when the program itself cannot operate without those things...that way of thinking and grant making cuts so many small nonprofits off at the knees

simply spending my time and energy and brainpower doing something that helps to improve people's lives...especially when those people are kids/students...giving back what i never got in my youth...
