The Williams family as a whole was portrayed with no connection to the rest of Compton. No family friends, no cousins/uncles/aunts. It’s like an inversion of Akeelah and the Bee.

Once you get past that first 20-30 minutes or so, the movie is pretty good, consistently.

I did find the bangers periodically racing onto the scene of the tennis court hilarious throughout the movie
