13423405, I don't even see how that happened
Posted by spenzalii, Tue Feb-09-21 05:27 PM
Like, how would you even smooth the glue in her hair with her fingers without getting super matted down from the jump?
13423409, She used a spray version (which I had no idea even existed)
Posted by Oak27, Tue Feb-09-21 05:30 PM
13423414, damn. she was serious about laying that hair down.
Posted by tariqhu, Tue Feb-09-21 05:40 PM
I didn't know that existed either.
13423447, That's what is so suspect...she claimed she used THAT because she was
Posted by FLUIDJ, Wed Feb-10-21 06:49 AM
out of her normal stuff......
but...
who the hell just happens to have Gorilla glue laying around...SPRAY Gorilla glue at that????
13423539, a spray version of Gorilla Glue kinda seems like a dangerous idea...
Posted by mikediggz, Wed Feb-10-21 01:51 PM
in and of itself...seems way worse than mace if used as such. i could see some kids fuckin around with it goofing off with disastrous results

13423518, Probably all three
Posted by flipnile, Wed Feb-10-21 12:51 PM
Them arguments are probably EPIC.
13423424, Serious question: Acetone and shave the head?
Posted by handle, Tue Feb-09-21 07:23 PM
I mean isn't that what has to happen??????

13423520, I use oil to get glue off my skin (keeps it from sticking), but...
Posted by flipnile, Wed Feb-10-21 12:55 PM
...always like a little drop on my fingertip I gotta get off. Stuck y fingers together once and it took a few minutes to get them separated.

No idea what the treatment for this lady was.
13423438, How do you sue for something you did to yourself?
Posted by JFrost1117, Tue Feb-09-21 11:13 PM
13423451, seriously the world is so fucking confusing me nowadays.
Posted by Reeq, Wed Feb-10-21 07:34 AM
i have no idea why this became such a big story or why she is being treated like a helpless victim.

shit like this be making me feel disconnected from society lol.
13423454, Idiocracy.. people doing the worst to get attention

13423490, I rewatch this movie about twice a year
Posted by CIPHA, Wed Feb-10-21 11:40 AM
and every time I watch it, I feel like we're getting closer and closer.
13423461, I'd hope that people are just bored out of their fucking minds
Posted by CherNic, Wed Feb-10-21 09:17 AM
And social media has made the world so much smaller.

No WAY people should waste their time writing actual articles about this shit under the guise of 'what Black women go through to be seen as acceptable' like make it STOP. Ole girl needs to take that L and go away.
13423463, at first it was just funny. folks making it more than what it is now.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Feb-10-21 09:28 AM
13423464, I think folks are just rubbernecking the car wreck.
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Feb-10-21 09:28 AM
And its also a good lithmus test because anyone who is saying anything other than this girl is goofy you know not to take them seriously on any other topic. They are trying to make it into something bigger because they got time and deadlines.

Journalists, writers, social media personalities, even lawyers are trying to cash in.

There's no clicks and engagements when there's no victim/villain narrative.

"How dare you call a "_______" weird for doing weirdo stuff. Are you a bigot? This reminds me of being bullied in high school. Full story on my patreon"
13423488, There doesn't need to be a victim/villain narrative
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Feb-10-21 11:14 AM
It just needs to be something that stands out.

The victim/villain narrative is often inevitable, as public opinion takes shape.

This is proven just by looking at the comment sections of articles or youtube videos.

We just spent four years in constant state of fight or flight response.
13423487, This isn't a nowadays thing. There's always some story like this
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Feb-10-21 11:12 AM
No, not necessarily this exact, specific thing.

But there's always some ultimately small story that gains traction and interest well beyond the scope and true impact of the story itself.

Social media makes things like this spread further and faster than ever before. We've had too many viral videos to count, and the stories behind/about them take hold because of the very nature of media today.

This some shit that's big now and will be forgotten once there's some resolution with the lawsuit (WHAT?).

Five years from now, when some other left field story pops up and people are asking the same questions and making the same "wtf is happening to society" comments, this will be a story where someone says, nah, there's always some shit like this, you remember that girl Gorilla Glue in her hair?

Because right now, I'm thinking, from a news standpoint, this isn't much different from the girl who tried to jump off a roof and broke her ankles because she missed the swimming pool.
13423524, Remember Liebeck vs. McDonald's? (lady scalded by hot coffee)...

Seems like that set the low bar for these kinda lawsuits.

The reason the put "CAUTION: Food will be hot!" on TV dinners that you put in the over at 400+ degrees F.
13423540, Have you watched the doc Hot Coffee (linked in that wiki artcle)?
Posted by Oak27, Wed Feb-10-21 01:53 PM
Made me do a complete 180 on my feelings on this case when I actually learned the story beyond "Lady spills hot coffee on herself and sues McDonald's"
13423719, Agreed. That lady was seriously injured. I wince thinking about it.
Posted by SuiteLady, Thu Feb-11-21 08:53 PM
13424029, I didnt see the doc but i remember studying that

I'm just trying to see what sort of person still holds the objectively stupid- sorry, that's just what it is, and blatantly so- opinion.

There's really no excuse to still have such a simplistic, ass backward, and objectively incorrect view on the hot coffee lawsuit, because far too much information exists to show that there was absolutely nothing frivolous about that.

Particularly considering facts in evidence that illustrate clear negligence on the part of McDonald's, particularly given that there were 700 such claims in the decade prior.

Not to mention the fact that the woman was simply seeking payment for her medical bills, with a small amount for lost wages of her daughter.

The fact that you'd reference this as a "low bar", while posting a wiki that alone lays out enough information to know that this was a legitimate lawsuit with serious liability issues on the part of McDonald's.

She didn't sue because she spilled hot coffee on herself, and she won because there were significant problems on McDonald's.
13423632, How about you actually read and respond to what I wrote?

> Seems like that set the low bar for these kinda lawsuits.

Key words "these kinda lawsuits." The personal injury field of law seems quite healthy. The job of personal injury lawyers are to file lawsuits. Once the "low bar" was set, anything greater-than or equal to those injuries was lawsuit-worthy in the eyes of a lawyer (because they make money win or lose), whether or not it had the same merit as that case. Legal precedent.

The reason the put "CAUTION: Food will be hot!" on TV dinners that you put in the over at 400+ degrees F.

> To avoid lawsuits.

All I did was point out a cause-and-effect. I didn't make any statement about the merit's of Ms. Liebeck's lawsuit.
13423649, I did.

Except this was anything but a low bar- which is what I addressed.

......you called her case a low bar.

How about you dig in to the facts of that case before calling it a "low bar" and then making these absurd generalizations that don't actually fit.
