13420543, **Log Your Covid-19 Vaccine Experiences Here**
Posted by Damali, Fri Jan-15-21 10:54 AM
thank you, legsdiamond, for starting that other hugely important post. Its mostly debate about the vaccine itself, though

But i think its super important and handy if people who have gotten the vaccine can use this post to log their experiences all in one place, without having to muddy through the rest on the other post.

It still makes me emotional to think about how we are all living through this time, on top of everything else...

RIP to the almost 390,000 US lives lost to Covid-19.

Reaction to first dose: None or very mild. I had some chill and diarrhea about 18 hours after the shot - but I also had some Thai food that may have done that. Seriously - it might have been the Thai food.

Reaction to second dose: None (48 hours out so far.)

My mom got her first shot on Friday, which i'm really glad about

she was very opposed to it a few months ago and I'm glad i was able to convince her

13424921, Vaccinated with Pfizer
Posted by bentagain, Tue Feb-23-21 11:09 AM
Unlike most accounts, I had a reaction on my first shot

Primarily site soreness

I had asthma as a kid and got weekly shots, so needles don’t bother me

Shot was nothing.

I ate before my appointment, but was immediately hungry after the shot and a little lightheaded...which quickly passed

Didn’t even immediately associate it with the shot it was so minor

Went to sleep and I must’ve rolled over on my shoulder...woke right up

Shoulder was sore as $hit for about 3 days

Datall.

Took Tylenol on a recommendation before my 2nd shot

No reaction.

Obviously this mRNA vaccine is a new thing

But the traditional inoculated vac from J&J is still months away

Get it if you can.
13425054, i will; its not my turn yet

Not YOU in particular, didn't mean it to sound that way.

It was aimed at these FOOLS that I hear talking about 'I'm going to wait and see before I take it!'

It's been months that the shots been out, no one has exploded or had unexplained telekinesis or grown a tail.

13424925, Novavax trial, second shot yesterday
Posted by MEAT, Tue Feb-23-21 11:31 AM
I ended up dropping out of the study after getting my shot. They’re moving to a blind crossover trial. Which means if you got the shot you’ll get the placebo, but if you got the placebo you'll get the shot. But that wouldn't be available until late April early May. That’s too long to wait when
1. I’m eligible for a shot right now
2. Hunting for a shot is a lot of work and if I don’t have to do that I could use that time better.
3. Everyday I send my kids out of this house I'm increase the risk.

They haven't called yet and already I'm tired of seeking out appointments.
13425053, that's really interesting; thanks for sharing

I guess a bit of arm pain with the first one, but honestly less than other vaccinations I've received. We'll see about the second one. I have two colleagues who've received it and one was fine, just a bit tired and the other really struggled.

I'm a pretty big baby, so I hope it's close to the former.

Pfizer Dose 1. Quick and Easy. Saw FEMA, CalFire, Forestry Service and more making it happen. Wife got hers the day before at the same location. Arm a little sore for two days, no side effects now on Day 4.

Got it last week. Arm was sore around the injection site for a few days, but no big deal.

I was definitely more tired than normal that evening, and a bit tired and not feeling great the next day. Nothing major though.
13427044, Second dose: I feel pretty bad
Posted by DJR, Thu Mar-11-21 03:28 PM
Got my shot yesterday afternoon. Felt fine. Woke up today feeling groggy and tired- though to be fair I often feel that way before coffee. Coffee did nothing today. Groggy and tired, bloodshot eyes all day. Can’t think clearly or focus on anything. Some nausea when I get up, now. Just feel bad in general. Hope I wake up tomorrow feeling better because this is no fun. I’m about 24 hours after my shot, right now.
13427205, Also, my armpit on the injection arm hurt and was swollen
Posted by DJR, Sat Mar-13-21 08:30 AM
which would seem to be lymph nodes swelling up as part of the immune reaction. That’s the only issue I still have though, but it has lessened. Everything else cleared up that second day after getting the shot.

I received my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine last week. (Disclaimer, I work for Pfizer).
I had the normal shoulder soreness with a slight headache ~48 hours after the second dose. But I also had some wine the night before. The headache was nothing that taking a couple ibuprofen didn't cure.

13425189, oh nice...funny i was wondering how that worked with staff

I usually don't experience much from vaccinations except for the occasional arm soreness for a day. After I received my first dose of Moderna in January, my arm was sore for a few days and I experienced fatigue. I was sluggish for quite a few days then I was back to normal.

Getting my second dose this Friday.

13425261, yeah i've seen alot of questions about the speed..here's what i learned:
Posted by Damali, Thu Feb-25-21 04:05 PM
that in non emergency times, vaccine research and production was always hampered by funding and other logistical delays (labs being backed up for analysis, people taking their time to read & peer review docs, evaluation logistics logjammed)...it took a long time because of those obstacles

in an emergency, those hurdles don't exist.

Feel kind of blah today, but if it's due to the shot then it's not as dramatic as I've been led to believe. Honestly, may be more due to the cold, grey day.

So yeah. All vaccine'd up. Gonna find some folks to cough in my mouth.

Basically slept very little, night sweats, sore all over, etc... but by 9 AM the next morning, I was mostly better, save for fatigue (but I hadn't slept much so that tracks).

I figured I’m still relatively young, healthy and have no pre-existing health conditions so why not get the JnJ.

Also, CVS could get me in ASAP to get the JnJ but I would have had to wait two weeks for the others.

We hit a lick. A friend knows a doctor who had some shots that were going to go to waste unless they were used. She called us and we called his office. Then we rolled over and got the shot.

A day later, Florida announced that anyone 40 & over would be eligible the following Monday. But I'm glad we did it the way we did. We didn't have to mess with any online registrations or appointments. There was no line at his office. We were in and out in 30 mins (and that includes waiting 15 mins after the shot for any adverse reactions).

especially if you live on the East Coast, try around midnight

if it says everywhere in your state is fully booked, try switching to another state on the first prompt (hawaii usually works) that has available appointments, just fill in the info

then it will ask you for your state again

and it will show you open appointments if there are any, that it usually might not show until the morning. this doesn't skip any eligibility requirements or anything, just might help you book an appointment a few days from now

there's a video here explaining it -- https://twitter.com/nj_vaccine/status/1375656333345746953

My arm is really sore, but no issues besides that. If you’re having trouble getting an appointment, see if there is a vaccine hunter Facebook group for your area. I’m in Michigan and there are several - the SE Michigan FB group has a live Google Doc that they update throughout the day listing pop-up vaccination clinics along with current availability through all the pharmacies and mass vaccination sites. Both my wife and I were able to find walk-in availability on separate days this way this week.

Today just the sore arm. Its been about 20 hours.

I'm fairly immuno-compromised though so my system probably didn't mount the same response as most. Or...something.

The vax area was the downstairs of the Moscone Center (the biggest convention center in SF). It was a little surreal and movie-like with rows and rows of doctors administering shots with a socially distanced waiting area for folks to wait after receiving the poke. They had top 40s music piped into the whole convention hall with greeters/ushers directing you where to go.

My mom was helping run a clinic at her work. She texted me and said if I could get there in the next hour, I could get a shot. Dropped everything and went. I'm not part of the current phase in my state but I guess they had some left over slots that people didn't sign up for.

The process was extremely well run and streamlined. In and out. Had a sore arm yesterday but that's it. Microsoft Teams is for everyone. Instantly go from group chat to video call with the touch of a button. Securely connect, access, share, and coauthor files in real time. The county that I live in made it available to everyone last Tuesday. It was a pain to set up an appointment, but got it done. Things at the vaccine spot itself seemed reasonably well organized. No HUGE lines or anything. From arrival to departure, I was there about 45 minutes, and that counts me being 20 minutes early and the 15 minute observation period.

Otherwise, feeling fine. Arm was decently sore yesterday, but not as bad today. Slightly raised bump at the injection site. Nothing I can't handle.

Feels damn good to get the process started.

For example, the afternoon I took the shot I still lifted weights like I normally do. I do an upper/lower split, and that afternoon workout was squats and trapbar deadlifts. My upper arm/shoulder was sore, but no issues. Later that evening when my arm was really sore there would have been NO way I could lift at all. The first shot was a breeze - just a sore arm for a couple of days and initially a very mild something and nothing kind of headache and a bit dizzy.

Second shot was a completely different story. I had it at 7.30 pm on Tuesday and felt fine when I woke up on Wednesday morning - only a sore arm. As the day wore on I was beginning to feel out of sorts and a bit foggy, like there was a veil coming down. By 5 pm on Wednesday my head was throbbing but not too badly, my limbs were aching (again, not too badly) and chills. I lay down on the sofa and slept except to get up to make dinner which was as much as I could do as the fatigue had really set in by then. I went to bed early and every time I turned over in my sleep I was aware of my head throbbing. What was so weird was it was at the back of my head. By Thursday morning I was still a bit tired, and whenever I stood up I had a mild throbbing in my head. As the day wore on I began to feel pretty much back to normal.

I'm relieved to be fully vaccinated, and I hope no-one is put off by my symptoms. From what I can gather getting side effects is a good sign and shows the vaccine is doing its job.

Feels like the lottery here in MD. They have a statewide registration site which is wonky at best. Pre-Registered at a few different clinics throughout the county with little success or follow-up (random e-mails saying you're on the list, but supply is limited, etc). Stayed late for work one Tuesday and checked the site, and lo and behold, one clinic had appointments in Fort Washington Wednesday and Thursday. By time I booked and confirmed it for Thursday all the Wednesday appointments were booked. Shortly after I called my wife to tell her I finally got my appointment Thursday was filled too.

The shot itself wasn't bad. Burned a little at first, and my arm was sore that night and Friday, but fine by Saturday. Heard it best to stay hydrated so I had plenty of water and electrolytes.

U.S. Calls for Pause on Johnson & Johnson Vaccine After Clotting Cases

WASHINGTON — Federal health agencies on Tuesday called for an immediate pause in use of Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose coronavirus vaccine after six recipients in the United States developed a rare disorder involving blood clots within about two weeks of vaccination.

All six recipients were women between the ages of 18 and 48. One woman died and a second woman in Nebraska has been hospitalized in critical condition.

Nearly seven million people in the United States have received Johnson & Johnson shots so far, and roughly nine million more doses have been shipped out to the states, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“We are recommending a pause in the use of this vaccine out of an abundance of caution,” Dr. Peter Marks, director of the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, and Dr. Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the C.D.C., said in a joint statement. “Right now, these adverse events appear to be extremely rare.”

While the move was framed as a recommendation to health practitioners in the states, the federal government is expected to pause administration of the vaccine at all federally run vaccination sites. Federal officials expect that state health officials will take that as a strong signal to do the same.

Scientists with the F.D.A. and C.D.C. will jointly examine possible links between the vaccine and the disorder and determine whether the F.D.A. should continue to authorize use of the vaccine for all adults or limit the authorization. An emergency meeting of the C.D.C.’s outside advisory committee has been scheduled for Wednesday.

6 out of 7 Million people. With no causal link found. And you hit pause after seeing what happened in the UK. This will absolutely decimate confidence in the vaccine and give fuel to those anti-vaxxers out there. What a stupid stupid decision

13430306, Anti-vaxxers don't care about facts
Posted by handle, Fri Apr-16-21 11:36 PM
If there's a small number of things like this and they don't pause then antivaxxers say it's a plot to kill you.

If there's a small number of things like this and the numbers are *suppressed* and they don't pause and then the numbers come out antivaxxers say it's a plot to kill you.

If there's a small number of things like this and they pause and then they un-pause after saying the risk is very rare or not caused by the vaccine antivaxers say it's a plot to kill you.

If there's no numbers like this antivaxers say it's a plot to kill you.

Do you see the pattern?

So you can't keep those people in mind.

We had people saying "I won't take an MRNA vaccine because it's too new, but I will take J&J because the mechanism is not new and therefore must be safer" too.

We have 500,000+ dead in the U.S. and 6-12 people with bloodclots with 1 death.

In America there's at least 25% of people judging that risk wrong.
13430316, literally one in a million
Posted by Mynoriti, Sat Apr-17-21 03:45 PM
and one in 7 million in the case of death

i understand the pause, just in the sense that if they don't and 2 weeks later a bunch of cases pop up it comes up as irresponsible

Yes, it seems statistically insignificant and outright ridiculous. However, I feel like half the shit I do for my job is guided by the edge cases. About issues that MAYBE a few dozen out of hundreds of thousands/millions of customers have. Because if we don't the FDA is on our asses, auditing the shit of out of us, wondering how we missed it and/or didn't take action sooner, and, if we REALLY screw up, fining the shit out of it/taking our product off market.

Also, liability is probably the main guiding principal here. God forbid some anti-vaxxer/anti-government shithead was one of the six people. They'd sue J&J, their county, their states, and the government for millions, if not billions.

the sore happened more quickly and was more pronounced, but also went away quicker that the first shot.

nose was a bit more running. the timing says 2nd shot effect, but I'm still not sure if allergies happened or not. I did start coughing on Tuesday. it wasn't much tho. no chills or anything else.

Sore shoulder at first, then in about 2 hrs it turned into my entire arm. Thankfully, that only lasted about an hour or so. The sore shoulder was done with after about 30-36hrs.

Bring on the 2nd.

Got 2nd Pfizer on March 25, found out today my test on Monday was positive.

Had a coworker test positive that I had contact with. Got a runny nose, some congestions and sinus pressure. Hoping that’s all the symptoms I get.

First shot, I only had a sore arm and some drowsiness that night. Felt fine otherwise.

Second shot, I felt crummy the next day. I was nauseous and had a headache. Took some tylenol and it helped. It was mild, but significant. I feel fine today.

Glad to be done with it!
13430602, Just got my first Pfizer 2 hrs ago. Felt like a zombie movie in the making.
Posted by PROMO, Wed Apr-21-21 03:44 PM
First let me say it was the most PAINLESS shot I've ever got.

That said, it was at a local airfield, cars lined up for like a quarter to a half mile.

You always see those zombie movie scenes where the airfield or military installation is overrun to show you how crazy shit got, and whether it's there, on a freeway, or whatever, there's always huge lines of cars with zombies inside.

Shit was a little weird, but otherwise fine. Took way longer than I expect cuz of the lines. Got there at 10:10 am, appt was for 10:25, got shot at 11, left at 11:15. I thought it was gonna be a pull up and dip situation.

still sore this morning, but not really any discomfort. only notice it if i use my shoulder to do things - probably equivalent to taking a solid punch in the shoulder.

my wife had a lot more soreness again, basically flu symptoms and full body aches the day after. I finally convinced her to take a tylenol, she started feeling better, then the next day she felt a lot better

It was still there on Sunday morning, but I felt much better by Sunday afternoon.

Really it was just one day of feeling shitty.
13431513, FYI: It's April 30th and San Diego just reached 1/3 vaccinated
Posted by handle, Fri Apr-30-21 07:41 PM
So we're still a LONG way from going back to normal.

We did 1 million vaccinations - still have 2 million more to go.
13431567, Oh.. that counted kids
Posted by handle, Sat May-01-21 01:48 PM
Update:
The goal is to fully vaccinate 75% of San Diego County residents 16 and older or 2,017,011 people.

*To date, 72.5% of the goal population has received at least one vaccine and 50.8% are fully vaccinated.*

We're doing pretty well actually - but we need the rest - and we have to deal with unvaccinated tourists.

tiny amount of discomfort at the injection site, that evening. It was completely gone the next day. No other side effects.

Second Pfizer shot: Yesterday morning…what a different experience.
Immediately after the shot, while I was doing my 15 minute wait …had a slight burning sensation where the needle went in. That lasted about 6 minutes or so and subsided. My shot was at 7 am, by noon I had a bangin’ headache that I could not get rid of. I thugged it out and continued with my day. That evening, wife and I were going to watch the Michael B. Jordan flick, but I was feeling type crummy and called it a night. Woke up about 4 am with more pain in my arm and a pronounced knot at the injection site. Also had a slight sore throat, headache, chillls and mild nausea. Took some multi symptom cold meds and watched some tv. Going to lay low today until this blows over.
13431662, Got my second Pfizer stick on Friday
Posted by mrhood75, Mon May-03-21 01:31 AM
I'd say the soreness in my arm lasted longer (probably a little over 36 hours) but was less intense overall.

Got my shot at 2:35 p.m. or so, and at about 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. I started to feel like I was coming down with something. Felt sore and achy and like my head was full of cotton. But I then I went to bed and by the morning I'd slept it off. I'd thought I'd have to take it easy on Saturday, but ran a few errands no problem.

Now I feel fine. Maybe **slight** general soreness in my right arm, but good otherwise.

I should also note that it was MUCH less crowded at the vaccine site this time. Maybe it was because it was a late-ish Friday afternoon or maybe it was because it's available more places, but I got there like 20 minutes early and they told me to go right ahead.

>Basically identical to the first. I think I got lucky. Stay

I didn't have anything other than a sore arm and a slight headache for both Pfizer shots.

I drink a lot of water in general, but I instinctively drink even more if I feel like something is up/or will be up with my body.

Maybe that helped alleviate any side effects.

Or we're just lucky.

Or its my low immune system.

Worth a shot though...*shrugs*

13432233, scheduled my 2nd dose of Moderna for tomorrow
Posted by mista k5, Fri May-07-21 01:08 PM
i was a bit confused on how that was going to go since the city recently stopped doing appointments and just started accepting walk-ins. i didnt know if i should just show up, if i needed to call somewhere or if they would contact me. i got a text yesterday saying i was now eligible to schedule the 2nd dose.

wish i could had done the drive thru again but from what ive heard theres no wait pretty much anywhere now so hoping for a smooth process.

i'll post an update monday.
13432308, all good

wasnt much of a wait to get it. barely felt it when they gave me the shot, especially compared to the first one. arm got sore again but maybe slightly less than the first shot. i think it lasted less time too.

i did start sweating quite a bit the first hour but then it passed. no other noticeable symptoms.

I got mine Saturday, started getting chills Saturday night and been off and on since, even had them this morning. Now, mainly lack of energy but hopefully be back to normal tomorrow or Wednesday latest, it's annoying but not that bad and better than Covid for sure.

My idiot brother however is now debating on not getting his 2nd due to how it affected me. Im like, man, just power thru a couple shitty days and it will be worth it.
13432402, I work at at a hospital - our employees 76.5% vaccinated now
Posted by handle, Tue May-11-21 03:58 PM
We're 25% or more above the San Diego rate which is like 51% now, but still 23.5% below where we should be.

If you're concerned about going to the hospital/doctor mention this to their staff and management, and that its important to you that health care workers are vaccinated.

No one that I know of at work has had any serious adverse effects - there would be a lot of talk if anything bad had happened - they talk A LOT.
13432525, 2nd Moderna shot last Thursday. Wasn't terrible
Posted by spenzalii, Wed May-12-21 01:52 PM
Was pounding water/Gatorade/Pedialyte all Wednesday and Thursday morning before the shot. Arm was sore by the shot site for a few days. A few muscle aches that Friday, likely because I had to go to work all day instead of resting. Slept most of Saturday and felt fine Sunday.
