The Dems could call all the witnesses they wanted but unless one of them was going to be Pence, the vote wasn’t going to change enough to hold up the rest of Biden’s agenda.
I think the reversal on witnesses was largely a result of McConnell letting it be known that he was going to vote to acquit trump. Once his mind was made it up and his intentions were known it wasn’t worth prolonging this with witnesses, unless you could get someone like Pence or Meadows to not only come testify but basically blame trump, which wasn’t going to happen.
Getting 7 GQP senators is a great outcome for the Dems and it allows them to continue to work on Biden’s agenda.
Dems got all the sound bites and footage they need for 22 to attack the GOP.
