13418288, Yeah I can't think of how else to interprate this
Posted by Oak27, Thu Dec-31-20 04:37 PM
What else would "transitioned" mean?

It *is* DOOM so it makes sense we'd need rapgenius to dissect his obituary.

And as eluded in another post, because it's DOOM any room for interpretation has to make you at least think "what if" this is all some weird Doomposter-esque shit. But 2020 would NOT be the year to pull something like that.

RIP. Awful news. I can't believe the family were able to keep it under wraps for two months.

I kinda dig the way the fam broke the news tho. We gon take our two months to grieve before we even tell the rest of yall. Gotta respect it.

air just left my lungs. damn damn damn.

i listen to his music all the time and was just thinking earlier in the week, and wondering does this old lyric mess him up, given that his son passed.

i put my daughter onto Sade, by pointing out the origin of the sample on Doomsday (she already listens to a lot of DOOM). and we been listening to Sade the last 2 weeks.

damn, man. this is upsetting.

My greatest Emcee of all time. He is one of two emcees to be great for over 4 decades. The other is Kool Keith.

My favorite DOOM verse:

plus a brand new chrome smoker with the trigger broke,
I thought I told him firing pens were separate,
he’ll find out letter when tries to go and rep it.”

Getting older is a process that involves lots of loss.

As humans, maybe we’re getting better at giving flowers while folks can smell em and all of that. But when someone goes it still feels like maybe it wasn’t enough. MJ and Prince are strong examples in my opinion.

Doom? I don’t know. But RIP. Special crafter of beats and best in show-level rapper. A 1-man Wu Tang if that’s even something to aspire to be. He did justice to what came before him and set a wonderful stage for others afterwards to work from. Roc Marci, who I love, seems like a cousin for instance.

Soooooo fucking fun. No funnier MC. Been revisiting all day today and I'm on Vaudeville Villain now. Was just picking my jaw up off the floor over this:

Viktor the director flip a script like Rob Reiner
The way a lotta dudes rhyme their name should be "knob shiner"
For a buck, they'd likely dance the Jig or do the Hucklebuck
To Vik it's no big deal, they're just a buncha knuckle-fucks

And this:

Mellow out what y'all bellow out ya yellow mouth
What happened to the typa spit that used to help a fellow out?
No doubt, leave a rapper in a body cast
And wonder what he was doing while we was in a karate class
Snotty ass, it's really like he was a white-belt
Right before he "night-night" ask him how the light felt
13418395, A pretty thorough mix of MF DOOM samples.

13418694, Same. I have so many thoughts. And I can't stop listening to him.
Posted by Brew, Tue Jan-05-21 02:45 PM
And/or reading about him. Whether tributes from the past week, or old interviews with or about him.

I was telling another DOOM fan friend of mine that I probably hadn't listened to really any of his albums front to back in close to a decade, because I didn't need to. I can still recite so much of them from memory after having listened to them all on repeat throughout college and the years immediately after (in other words during his most prolific period 03-05 and probably through the end of that decade).

So revisiting all his albums and collaborations now over the past couple of days, I sort of feel like I'm reliving that entire time period. Which is nostalgic, jarring, surreal, depressing, fun, exciting ... a bunch of feelings and emotions all at once.

I'm so sad he's gone. And so sad that time passes us by so quickly and without warning, both as it pertains to DOOM and his life but also just in general. His death and revisiting some of my favorite music from some of the best years of my life is yet another reminder of that sad fact.

I have so much more to say, so many more thoughts about him but they're all so jumbled I may never get around to putting them in writing. This just really sucks.

But fuck was his music and artistry incredible.

It has to be the latter. I'm interested, especially since dude has been almost completely MIA for the better part of three decades (There's a video of him delivering a euology at a funeral from at least a decade ago).

I don't think I'd interested at all in what Onyx the group had to say about Zev/DOOM.

Because it's the first time I'd EVER heard his name pronounced DOOM-ILL-LAY (even the Times said it the way I've always imagined it's said, DOOM-ISLE) but it's also pretty good, if a little more surface level in part one (Sean Fennessey and Jeff Weiss address him from the perspective of white dudes who got into rap journalism because of the mystique of DOOM on message boards in their early 20s) but part two is also a mix of expected (Dante, Bob) and unexpected - Adam Bhala talking making his music videos and some cool behind the scenes stories from Kurious and Open Mike Eagle.

I spent like 18 years thinking that lyric was one thing when it was another entirely
