Some jurisdictions have done a great job of keeping plans and documents but most haven't especially from around that time. The best way especially if the architect is known or is still in business they might have records. It never hurts to ask, some will have a city records department or utilize the historical society to get more information. Unfortunately you will need to put in some work to get it but it will be worth it.
