Partially cuz I am always *uber* mindful of cars when I'm walking thru a parking lot (it's far easier for me to see them than them me, after all) and always give the car the right of way; and also partially because you said people "speed up" to walk behind a reversing vehicle, which just seems ridiculous to me haha. Like the mental picture I have of that scenario seems like something that I couldn't *possibly* be oblivious to.
