but I generally stay away from slavery stories (heart can't take it) and I'm nervous to relive the sadness of the book
that clip is lovely

13409210, the book definitely didn't end the way I wanted, but I still felt peace? Posted by CherNic, Wed Oct-21-20 08:23 AM
If that makes sense. I'm going to have to re-read it before the series.

I'm reading it right now. Had never heard of him or the book, came across it in the goodwill store.
Anybody suggest another book of his?

13421617, There can never be enough slave based stories Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Tue Jan-26-21 10:03 AM
I disagree with anyone who says they dont want them. There will never stop being movies, shows, and books about the Holocaust. I want the same for slavery. I dont want them to ever be allowed to forget what happened or brush it under the rug with Frederick Douglas and MLK crumbs
|
13421618, one thing I agree with Chris Rock on....we still don't see the full reality Posted by CherNic, Tue Jan-26-21 10:07 AM
Have we ever seen the full brutality of slavery? We still have historians out here calling slaves "mistresses", as if they had a choice.
I agree that we deserve all the stories. I don't think the majority of people are ready though.
|
13421773, 12 Years is the closest ive seen. Outside of a few Amistad scenes. Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Wed Jan-27-21 09:10 AM
I think as more black producers and film makers gain power we will see the full extent. Seems white producers are afraid to take it there, outside of the Brad Pitts (who produced 12 Years) or Clooneys
