...per range visit, and maybe hit the range a few (2-5) time per year.

If someone shoots 200 rounds at the range three times a year that's 600 rounds.

Having a 1,000 round (for the "average" shooter) "stockpile" enables one to keep ammo and hand and still go out and shoot.

Some folks shoot several times a week, or in their backyard with friends so they could easily burn through tens of thousands of rounds in a year.

It's no so much about having it for future war shootouts (who *really* thinks they are gonna be alive after exchanging 100s or 1,000s of rounds in combat? lol). It's for having it when so one can shoot when they want to.

Also, prices fluctuate based on politics, so folks tend to grab heavy when prices are low because they tend to shoot up real high around election time (like now).
