The only thing it means for sure is that they knew each other. With them both being Jehovah's witnesses and her being close with her family, it's very likely he wasn't allowed to touch her before then. For him to say they "have Jehovah's blessing" implies that there was no fucking until marriage... because if that's not the case, then they don't have Jehovah's blessing according to their faith.
