13394927, im really really really rooting for DMX to not make a fool out of himself
Posted by thegodcam, Wed Jul-22-20 10:42 AM
im really hoping that his performance can inspire folks and that it becomes a major turning point for him

brother been thru a lot and i think he deserves to reap some of the joy his music has brought to so many of us

uncle snoop is charismatic as fuck, i have zero worries for him
13394928, Snoop but it'll be closer than expected
Posted by Marbles, Wed Jul-22-20 10:45 AM

I think DMX might give Snoop a strong run among kids whose heyday was the late 1990s-early 2000s.
13394930, first one in a while that im interested in
Posted by mista k5, Wed Jul-22-20 10:48 AM
like them both. prefer snoop. think it should be snoop fairly easily but respectable.

dont care enough to actually watch tho. might watch a recap which is more than ive done for any since badu and jill.
13394931, Snoop.
Posted by JFrost1117, Wed Jul-22-20 10:48 AM
Just from the “it’s a marathon, not a sprint” analogy. I liked a lot more of Snoop’s output after I stopped liking X’s music.
13394944, Snoop has so many hits
Posted by makaveli, Wed Jul-22-20 11:13 AM
And so many good songs that aren’t hits. His catalog is ridiculous.
13394946, This is a deceptively great matchup... at first.
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Jul-22-20 11:24 AM
Both were white hot out the gate.

It's competitive when we're discussing their bigger hits and posse cuts, but I think Snoop's catalog is just too deep.

He hit, what, 6 years before X?

Snoop was active during X's prime, then had a major resurgence toward the end of X's run at/near the top.

To top it off, Snoop has a slew of bangers and quality material that came out long after X's career came to a screeching halt.

This looks like a contest at first, but it really isn't.

This is a game that's neck and neck until half time, but after that?

X just sort of fades out, while Snoop keeps hitting shots and running up the score. Even if those late game buckets aren't as spectacular as that first half, he's still putting in work.

I wouldn't say DMX was hot out the gate.. He was featured in the source in 91, then he struggled dropping dud after dud for 6 years before getting some real buzz with LL's 4,3,2,1.. Snoop on the other hand stole the show with Deep Cover and still hasn't"fallen off" to this day.

That said.. Snoop all the way here, not only do i not fuck with DMX voice or flow, i can't stand the 95% of production he spit over. Easy win for Snoop.

13394947, Create a poll for how late DMX will be
Posted by CIPHA, Wed Jul-22-20 11:24 AM
I'm guessing 2 hours late.
13394999, snoop
Posted by queenie, Wed Jul-22-20 01:19 PM

It's plenty of money to be made
from Candler Road to Bankhead
It's plenty of room to get paid
for those that ain't scared
13395021, Snoop for all the reasons said. 30 years ...
Posted by Brew, Wed Jul-22-20 02:03 PM
Dude's been doing it damn near 30 years, with hits and just barely hits just beneath the surface, too.

X had a great run there but after the first like 10ish rounds Snoop will be knocking grand slam after grand slam and X will be whimpering.

Snoop said it best in May - as far as hits, Jay was probably his only true competition.

But like someone else said - I hope X shows up on time and doesn't embarrass himself - I'd be psyched to see the dude get a win. He's been down for so long and has always seemed like a real good dude beneath all the trouble.
13395049, Should be Snoop easily. Deeper catalog
Posted by spenzalii, Wed Jul-22-20 03:29 PM
I'm sure counting featured DMX can come up with a killer 20 (was just listening to Murdergram yesterday.Maaaaaan.....). But Snoop just has a much longer track record and S-tier producers to work with over the years. Not sure how X comes out on top
13395050, I can only think of like 2 or 3 DMX features ...
Posted by Brew, Wed Jul-22-20 03:34 PM
... I don't remember him featuring on other people's songs all that much.
13395057, 4,3,2,1...Money, Power, Respect...Money, Cash, Hoes, 24 Hours to Live
Posted by DJR, Wed Jul-22-20 03:52 PM
Back in One Piece(Aaliyah), Sincerity (Mary J Blige)...there’s a ton of features in like 98-99 though.
13395051, Snoop - because his hits don’t all sound the same
Posted by DJR, Wed Jul-22-20 03:38 PM
Counting features, DMX can easily put together a strong 20 - but I think it might get monotonous. They all happened around the same 5 year period and many have a similar sound....and that kind of production really didn’t age well IMO.
13395068, where do you watch these now? are they still on IG?
Posted by PROMO, Wed Jul-22-20 04:29 PM
13395073, supposedly it will be on apple music too

https://www.tomsguide.com/news/how-to-watch-verzus-snoop-dogg-vs-dmx-battle-on-instagram-live-and-apple-music-start-time

no idea how that will work. last time i watched the badu one on youtube. i might try that again. not official, so always at risk of shutting down.
13395075, Yeah they are on the @VerzuzTV IG account
Posted by lightworks, Wed Jul-22-20 04:57 PM
I guess Swizz and Tim got sick of the bad connections and the battles ending prematurely so now they have both folks in the same room and they do it on the Verzuz account versus the artist's individual accounts.

Beanie Man and Bounty were the first to do it like that and since then Alicia and John Legend and Jada and Fab did it like that too.
13395076, I was reading someone's top 20 Snoop songs, and for their #1
Posted by lightworks, Wed Jul-22-20 05:00 PM
they had Gin & Juice and I thought to myself, how crazy is it that Snoop's number one could be that or Beautiful or Drop It Like It's Hot or Sensual Seduction or Nothing But A G Thang.

I genuinely cannot think of another person other than the biggies like Beyonce, MJ, or Prince (maybe Tupac? Jay?) that could potentially have numerous songs be the closer.
13395081, Wow that's true. And there's more too lol
Posted by Brew, Wed Jul-22-20 05:36 PM
13395090, I’m going through his albums now
Posted by makaveli, Wed Jul-22-20 06:21 PM
I really don’t think any rapper can compete with him catalog wise.

13395112, This is really fucking fun. I take back what I said. I'm glad it was these 2.
Posted by Brew, Wed Jul-22-20 07:50 PM
I still think Snoop is will end up winning by a mile but their banter and stories are great. And X has covered so many classics so far. Deep Cover vs. the Hell is Hot Intro was fuuuuucking awesome as an opener.
13395114, Gz and Hustlaz !!! So glad he dropped that. That beat goes too hard forever.

Maybe hardest round yet to judge. A great album cut from Snoop but a fairly big X song, tho not his greatest.

Snoop 5 - 4 X (I hope I'm counting right)

13395140, Round 21 (Bonus?): Where DA Hood At vs The Next Episode
Posted by CIPHA, Wed Jul-22-20 09:07 PM
Snoop

I'm gonna call it a 10 - 10 - 1 tie.

Damn.
13395142, Yea that was way way closer than I anticipated.
Posted by Brew, Wed Jul-22-20 09:13 PM
I give it to Snoop just cuz I'm a huge Snoop stan and have been for life, so I knew the lyrics to basically every song he played haha. But X has some absolute bangers. That was fucking fun as hell.

Problem with X is he's sort of one dimensional. The songs are bangers but they're all in the same vein. And he's got like one speed. It's a damn good speed, haha - and he can really, truly rap. But Snoop just has way more versatility.

But still, song for song that was way closer than I thought it would be.

Now they're freestyling and it's still awesome. I often forget how damn good Snoop is off the top. He's not saying much but he flows on beat better than anyone when freestyling. He just rides the beat so well and never loses the rhyme.
13395143, Love Swizz and Battlecat being the DJs too.
Posted by Brew, Wed Jul-22-20 09:16 PM
Perfect for both MCs.
13395146, Really enjoyed that! They both showed well
Posted by DJR, Wed Jul-22-20 09:19 PM
13395163, Whoever put this together deserves a raise.
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Jul-23-20 07:11 AM
I haven’t seen all of these but this was the best produced one I’ve seen so far.
13395165, I loved every minute of that
Posted by makaveli, Thu Jul-23-20 07:59 AM
DMX is a legend but Snoop is another level, and the freestyling at the end? Hip Hop wins. Battle Cat was doing some cool stuff when the beats. DMX had more hits than I remember, but Snoop could have kept going for a couple days. Is Gz and Hustlaz the most gangster song ever?
13395171, I nearly spontaneously combusted when that song started.
Posted by Brew, Thu Jul-23-20 08:55 AM

>Is Gz and Hustlaz the most gangster song ever?

When he started telling the story of the 6 year old, I gleefully said to my wife "he's not gonna play Gz and Hustlaz no fucking way" then he started the skit and I nearly exploded. So damn gangsta, so damn good.

Speaking of the 6 year old, am I the only one who had no idea that that was Bow Wow ? Like I know he was around the Death Row folks around that time and was Snoop's protege, hence the name, before So So Def. But I had no idea that was him on the Gz and Hustlaz skit.
13395175, i remember finding out when bow wow was a thing
Posted by mista k5, Thu Jul-23-20 09:35 AM
i think from my cousins. no idea how they knew. i could be misremembering though and i actually found out much later lol
13395170, that was fun and a better matchup than i expected
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Jul-23-20 08:54 AM
i didnt watch the whole thing but i popped in for about 45 mins overall. i cant believe my mom used to let me listen to uncut DMX when i was a kid but drew the line at Get Rich or Die Tryin lol
13395173, i just had to tune in
Posted by mista k5, Thu Jul-23-20 09:13 AM
well worth it. still wish they made it friendlier to watch on a tv but man. the format and dmx and snoop were just great. the music was decent sound quality and pretty much nothing but jams. i didnt keep score but overall felt like a tie.

i signed up for apple music only to find out it doesnt let you cast live stations or whatever.
13395310, If you have an Apple TV, it’s easy as turning it on to watch on TV
Posted by sersey, Thu Jul-23-20 03:53 PM
That’s how I watched and it was glorious. only downside was no IG commentary on the appletv stream. The comments and celebrity fodder is half the fun.
13395314, If you have an Apple TV you're doing it wrong.
Posted by mista k5, Thu Jul-23-20 04:13 PM
Had to fix that for you.

I didn't bother checking if there's an Apple Music app for Android TV. Just fired up the laptop and cast it.

You definitely need the comments. I think in an add for the Apple Music or just the Verzuz battle it had a score card and it make me think you would be able to vote each round. Thought that could be cool but I think it's better not to do it.

I'm mad I wasted my 6 month trial for Apple Music. I don't really want to try it out right now. I thought Verizon included Apple Music with my plan, not just a trial. Oh well.
13395204, Just gonna list some lesser known Snoop songs that are jams

Smooth
Crazy
Big Pimpin’
Boss Playa
Press Play
Those Girlz
Suited and Booted
Which One of You
Wonder What It Do
Fresh Pair of Panties
El Lay
Melody for a V
A Bitch I Knew
Go On
Lonely Girl
Perfect

I could keep going. Snoop is great.
13395215, Yes yes yes yes - "Press Play" & "Those Gurlz" - Quik forever.
Posted by Brew, Thu Jul-23-20 11:36 AM
Quik laced those tracks. I *still* have those two on repeat to this very day.

"Big Pimpin'" is possibly my favorite DPG song ever. Possibly the coolest hip-hop song ever made.

"Go On" is a fire, more recent Snoop jam. I had that on repeat when it came out. Swivel, too.

"Wonder What It Do" is classic. So west coast.

"Smooth" and "Crazy" both fire. The beat on "Smooth" is so hard. Daz is underrated.

I'd like to add "21 Jumpstreet" and "Who Got Some Gangsta Shit" from the Murder was the Case soundtrack for consideration. "21 Jumpstreet" is cool as hell, too.

Snoop *is* great. Top 3 coolest man ever. He just exudes coolness from his pores. And it reflects in so many of his music, for 30 years. Unbelievable really.

13395273, No question. The Death Row camp was untouchable at that time.

1993-1995ish. Although I'd argue that they were pretty much flawless during their entire 1992-1996ish run. But that 2-3 year window was the peak IMO. They just couldn't make a bad song even if they tried. Everything was cool as fuck, they had that intangible coolness factor, etc. They were just so so so dope top to bottom. Wish it could've continued on that way.
13395291, I give X so, so much credit.
Posted by Ryan M, Thu Jul-23-20 02:34 PM
He was lucid, hilarious, and just really fun. Sure, he's lost a step (though performance has never been his issue) but goddamn that was fun. Snoop is one of the most charismatic humans to ever live. This was fun as hell and SO much closer than I ever imagined.

this was a mismatch.

especially with those custom battlecat mixes (that mc breed!) and snoop spitting over the instrumentals with his vocals removed. that shit was sounding clean as hell.

13397137, all that dancing around

some of them songs didn't age well.

Snoop 'outcooled' DMX even when it wasn't his turn.
