13393327, I’m still worried about this election Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jul-14-20 10:02 AM
Everything says Biden should win in a landslide.
Everything says Trump is trying to lose.
and yet, I’m still not convinced Trump will lose because America ain’t shit.
What say you?

13393330, in a fair election i think Biden will win fairly easily... Posted by PROMO, Tue Jul-14-20 10:12 AM
because even though he's a Dem, there are older, white folks that don't like Trump and I think them and some other conservatives will go "well, Biden is old and white and i can rock with that."
however, i won't be surprised by anything.
if the title of my reply wasn't a clue, i'm more worried about a fair election, especially with COVID playing a part. we already see the fuckery going on in states like Georgia and Kentucky, and there's no evidence that fuckery is going to slow down or end, so....
......yeah.
i'm nervous.

13393331, Still a long way to go. A lot can happen in 3-4 months Posted by PimpTrickGangstaClik, Tue Jul-14-20 10:16 AM
If the election happened in March, I'd say Trump would have won almost by the same margin as 2016, win Biden just winning back either Michigan or Pennsylvania. And the Democrat's outlook for the Senate was pretty bleak.
But then corona virus hit and flipped the country upside down.
I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that another seismic shift happens in the next few months. The electorate seems so fragile that it doesn't even have to be a huge event that triggers a shift
So right today, I'm cautiously optimistic. I think Biden's advantage now is as big as it's ever going to get. Nowhere to go but down, and he needs to preserve it somehow

13393335, Barbara Ransby said it perfectly IMO Posted by Vex_id, Tue Jul-14-20 10:35 AM
"While we must defeat Trump in November, we also must organize against Joe Biden. If Biden is nobody's dream, Trump is a nightmare. Do we hold our noses yet again and support a candidate so grossly out of sync with our values or do we let an aspiring fascist hold power?"
A vote for Biden in November should be viewed not as an endorsement of Biden, but rather a vote *against* Trump.

and there are plenty people who love (or at least really like) Biden.
But yes - to your point - given these circumstances it's not about "loving" the only person in the position to thwart off fascism. Trump (and Trumpism) must be defeated in November by any means necessary.

13393348, very worried. I don't trust Trump, Election Officials, or the state of FL Posted by walihorse, Tue Jul-14-20 11:10 AM
I live in the most retarded state, even though I live in a blue county, the rest are red as red can come. They didn't care when 17 people were killed in Marjory Stoneman Douglas, they aren't caring that thousands are being infected a day.
Until Bidens hands are on that bible come next year, I am not going to breathe easy. China, Russian, and the Saudis would love for Agent Orange to win. I am nervous something will be done to attempt to have it handed for him.

13393368, You think Trump cares about rules, tradition and precedent? Posted by Vex_id, Tue Jul-14-20 11:41 AM
He's fully capable of attempting a coup (or even sparking a civil war) to retain power - or using every weapon at his disposal to sabotage a fair election and a peaceful transition of power.
I don't underestimate Trump's capacity for invoking all out chaos from now until November.
-->

13393371, he doesn't have to care. The Secret Service has to care. Posted by Damali, Tue Jul-14-20 11:48 AM
>He's fully capable of attempting a coup (or even sparking a >civil war) to retain power - or using every weapon at his >disposal to sabotage a fair election and a peaceful transition >of power.
of course, but the question wasn't about a peaceful transition of power. it was about "can he stay president if there's not election" and the answer is NO.
>I don't underestimate Trump's capacity for invoking all out >chaos from now until November.
neither do I...he has amassed a great deal of terrifying power in a short time...there will most certainly be chaos and that's why I'm trying to leave the country before November...sadly, Covid has me trapped and that's maddening to me

no matter how many different ways or times i say it, i feel like nobody hears me when i say i'm not ok. i'm the worst off mentally and emotionally than i've ever been in my life and i'm so good at faking being ok...
if i can't get out of the country, i'm working on being able to have a remote work job, get rid of most of my shit, and live in a small studio somewhere and get some therapy and write and just be alone for a while
that's the hope i have that keeps me sane...otherwise, i don't think i can survive this.

13393401, Whuh?? Posted by EAS, Tue Jul-14-20 01:44 PM
The military are his biggest supporters. With 45 in office, there is guaranteed chaos and pending war. Hell who says war with another country? He'll just attack his own citizens, like a good dictator would. The military industrial complex loves 45. The rules don't apply plus no one is willing to enforce said rules once broken. We've watched time and time again. The Dems are pathetic and weak. I'll be voting Dem come November but there is much work still to be done afterwards. Why are Dems so weak and why are institutions that are meant to protect against fascism failing us? I feel My SP1200... has a good point on how things might go down. I also feel 45 is going to drop a huge bombshell on Biden in September that will flip the script and give 45 the edge; on top of foreign interference and voter suppression.
|
13393406, yes Trump will lie and cheat and create chaos Posted by makaveli, Tue Jul-14-20 01:55 PM
but the military would not be on his side if he tried to pull something. yes, military people tend to vote republican but generals have made it pretty clear they won't side with Trump.

I want to be proven wrong so badly. But I've been right the past 3 years. Every hope of 'getting him' fails and so does the notion of 'well so'n so won't allow if this happens.....' That has been a failure too. You cannot stop a president with rules and laws if they are not enforced. Not one person in federal government is willing to lay down his/her life to stand up to the corruption 45 has created. They are so weak and cowardly. The fate of this country depends on this upcoming election. There is no turning back if re-elected. If I am wrong come November, I would love to be held to it and I will be celebrating doing the jig while people yell 'I told you so' at me. Doesn't feel like I will be dancing in 4 to 6 months.

if events following george floyds murder and the national response to coronavirus havent made things absolutely clear...i dont know what will.
that period of absolute hell in june where black/good people were collectively traumatized/fearful/crying out in the open and couldnt sleep? try an entire term of that when trump doesnt have to worry about facing re-election.
i could get into the 2 supreme court seats (at least) that the next prez will most likely fill, the ramifications for redistricting/gerrymandering after the 2020 cycle for the next decade (with a politicized census bureau), and trump/repubs continuation of their general assault on democracy at large...but it prolly wouldnt make much difference.
if you think biden would corrupt every single institution he touches and jog us into a fascist dictatorship every chance he gets...i dont know what to tell you.

True colors shining through. The next years will be interesting and likely still scary. Some of these folks are horrified of not being benefactors of things being unfair and racist in their favor. It’s been such a big part of their lives that they think it’s the way shit should be.
And I still wanna know when white women are gonna say ‘hey!!!!!?’ about all of this. Who else has to get in office before they draw a line and demand to get in the front of the reds?
