seems light, not sure if its just because im posting early or if it will be a light release week. ill probably check out gucci, pop smoke and wsg if they actually drop.

13391961, what a 180
Posted by bearfield, Fri Jul-03-20 01:37 PM
also what were you expecting from a posthumous major label album with that set of features?
13392008, lol I didn’t read the track list before I started listening
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sat Jul-04-20 01:11 PM
13391946, Westside Gunn has ANOTHER one dropping?

13391960, That K CAMP project has a few nice tracks on it.
Posted by PROMO, Fri Jul-03-20 01:23 PM
13392202, This Khruangbin album is super fire.
Posted by PROMO, Mon Jul-06-20 03:29 PM
I mean, I expected it to be good, but they stepped it up a level.
13392247, on repeat. their whole discography is my summer soundtrack.

13392464, Gucci owes me an hour of my life back
Posted by snacks, Wed Jul-08-20 11:43 AM
I initially assumed it was a Gucci album with a lot of features, but it seems more like a showcase for his newer artists. I think I see what he was tryna do in that sense, but it was too long and felt like a chore to get through
13392466, i looked up the reviews on monday and decided to skip it lol

13391954, From a couple weeks ago: Starchild & The New Romantic "Forever" LP
Posted by PROMO, Fri Jul-03-20 11:43 AM
I just finally got around to listening to this. If you're looking for a great album, this is it.

He favors Maxwell vocally, so it's a bit like if Maxwell made an album in 2020 with a current production and songwriting ethos, but not exactly.

Definitely worth your time.

And now I'm going back to listen to his first LP, "Language."
13391957, thanks, gonna check this out
Posted by wrecknoble, Fri Jul-03-20 12:25 PM
13391958, i've now made it through his 2018 LP which is even better (i think???).
Posted by PROMO, Fri Jul-03-20 12:39 PM
it's more funky and varied, IMO.

here's a Pitchfork review of it: https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/starchild-and-the-new-romantic-language/

(i hate pitchfork reviews because they always try to be more than they should be, fwiw. talk about the music and stop trying to be these existential think pieces, lol.)

also, found out he works behind the scenes for Solange and Blood Orange, among others. no wonder he's fire AF.
13392013, i got the Blood Orange vibe immediately, even from his cover art
Posted by wrecknoble, Sat Jul-04-20 02:51 PM
really liked this new album, and i will check out the previous releases soon
13391959, Also, from last week...how we not talking about Jessie Ware!?!?!?
Posted by PROMO, Fri Jul-03-20 01:12 PM
I feel like she didn't turn out how people expected when she first came on the scene so people kinda forgot about her.

Well, she dropped one of the best albums of the year last week, "What's Your Pleasure?".

a full LP of straight early 80's sounding disco/r&b/funk.

man, do better OKP.
13392014, love Jessie Ware and always support her
Posted by wrecknoble, Sat Jul-04-20 02:52 PM
this album hit some marks for me but not others. it's definitely something i gotta be in the mood for. some of the disco tracks work better than others. but overall it's nice. won't be in heavy rotation for me as a full project, but i will pick and choose songs to throw into playlists for sure.
13391962, Wes is NOT letting up on y'all

13392846, JuiceWRLD album is too sad
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Fri Jul-10-20 10:53 AM
whoever picked the tracks for this went waaaayyyyy too hard w/ the emotional manipulation

i know JW got like 300 completed songs in the tank because a ton of them have leaked (pretty much all of the ones on this album were leaked already). so IDK why they went so hard w/ the sad shit.

13392847, Dinner Party is soooo smooth
Posted by mista k5, Fri Jul-10-20 10:55 AM
for those that dont know its a project by Kamasi Washington, Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and 9th Wonder.

Haven't listened yet but I like her a lot.
13393982, This Kllo - Maybe We Could on Ghostly Recs is nice.
Posted by PROMO, Fri Jul-17-20 12:56 PM
sweet, syrupy female vocals based on good songwriting over somewhat minimal electro pop productions (right up Ghostly's alley).

Definitely worth checking out. Good chill out type vibes.

I'd recommend "A Mirror" off the album if this isn't your cup of tea and if you likes, go back and play from the beginning.

Checks in at a quick 10 tracks, 34 mins too which i always appreciate in these days of bloated releases.
13395396, I fux with them. New album is pretty sparse. I like the last album
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jul-24-20 09:35 AM
more than this one.

13393991, This Pink $weats EP is really good.

6 songs.

Maybe his most complete project yet, and fairly diverse in sound and writing.

Someone music supervisor gotta put that "17" song in a romantic movie ASAP.

KYLE - See You When I am Famous! 4.4/5

Lupe Fiasco & Kaelin Ellis - House 5/5
It's only 4 songs but they all hit. I want to play it a few times. Really makes me want to hear more from the combo.

Curren$y & Harry Fraud - The OutRunners 4.75/5
This is great. I got a bit tired towards the end but I am going to keep this in rotation. The production is nice. Songs are short, Curren$y is mostly off the hooks. Good features.

Logic - No Pressure 4/5
It's okay. Some great production. I don't really like listening to Logic rap and this doesn't change that. Got really tired of the wannabe Tribe voice in-between basically every song. Dude sounds like he needs a break. Kind of like Eminem when he started rapping about not liking being famous. I guess it's good he's claiming he's retiring instead of continuing to rap about it for 10 years and counting.

Kamaal Williams - Wu Hen
Cool listen, I don't really do instrumental type albums so not going to score it. Sounded good though.

The Boldy James isn't on streaming. Couldn't find the E-40 either.
13395446, Fucking with this Calboy album.

Understandably, black thought delayed his album. It was the only album I was looking forward to today, would have been a great way to end July which has been super strong. Not anything I'm too eager to jump into, will check out the benny and e-40. Maybe brandy and alinis.

Pretty weak, I hope there's something I'm sleeping on. Haven't checked out Brandy or Alanis but most of what I heard today isn't worth going back to.

38 Spesh - 6 Shots 4.6/5
This was good, beats are pretty nice. Bars are okay. I think this won't have a lot of replay value but definitely they best project I've listened to this week.

Flee Lord & Pete Rock - The People's Champ 3.4/5
I had some hope with Pete Rock but the rapping was just meh to me. Not one track I would go back to.

E-40 - The Curb Commentator Channel 2 EP 4.1/5
Not bad but nothing special. Goop is pretty dope, only track that might stay in rotation.

Black Soprano Family 4/5
This was okay. Some dope bars, some dope beats. Overall nothing special. In Love with the Streets might stay in rotation.
13396813, very slow week. not much to write home about.

13396810, Did Thought push his date back for Malik?

13396816, he did push it back
Posted by mista k5, Fri Jul-31-20 02:45 PM
he was a bit vague on the reasoning but it makes sense that its for malik.

Black Thought on Instagram: “I know you all were expecting the album at midnight. My bad y’all. But this delay is for a good reason. Big announcement coming soon. New release date to follow. Love”
13397238, this Half A Mill album (Hit Boy & Dom Kennedy) is nice.

i wish Dom Kennedy was not involved, but it is what it is.

Hit Boy has now put out two good albums in 2020.

His solo, The Chauncey Hollis Project, is one of the best rap albums to drop this year IMO.
13397239, That Lianne LaHavas is the best R&B album of the last 5 or 6
