13390838, Kanye is really the Gap like Banana Republic and Old Navy now (swipe)

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/26/business/kanye-west-yeezy-gap.html?smtyp=cur&smid=tw-nytimes

The Gap brand, which has flailed in recent years as it struggled with an identity crisis, has a new idea for how to revive its fortunes: Kanye West.

The retailer is partnering with Mr. West and Yeezy, his fashion company, for a new clothing line called Yeezy Gap that will be introduced in the first half of 2021, the companies said on Friday. Yeezy’s design studio, under Mr. West’s creative direction, plans to create “modern, elevated basics for men, women and kids at accessible price points.” Mr. West’s “design vision” will extend to how the line will be showcased in Gap’s stores and online.

Gap is making a far bigger bet on Yeezy and Mr. West, a celebrity, creative entrepreneur, rapper and designer, than a typical designer collaboration. They agreed to a 10-year deal starting this month, with the option to renew after five years, according to a person familiar with the negotiations, who was not authorized to speak publicly. At the five-year point, Gap is hoping that Yeezy Gap will be generating $1 billion in annual sales. For context, Gap’s brand brought in $4.6 billion in global revenue last year.

Gap did not respond to a request for comment on the terms of the deal.

It comes as Gap Inc., which also owns Old Navy and Banana Republic, aims to refocus its namesake brand, which has seen sales plummet in the past few years, closed more than 100 North American stores and struggled to define its place within the apparel industry. It, like other retailers, has also been badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr. West, who worked at a Gap in his teens, has expressed deep interest in the brand for years, declaring in a 2015 interview that he would “like to be the Steve Jobs of the Gap,” and once dreamed of being its head creative director. He has visited its San Francisco headquarters and met with Art Peck, Gap Inc.’s former chief executive.

The Gap deal will fulfill a desire of Mr. West’s to make clothing for the masses, even as Yeezy has become a presence at New York and Paris Fashion Weeks. Yeezy merchandise on Farfetch recently included a $925 men’s graphic cardigan and a $241 women’s thermal sweater. At Gap, jeans and tops often cost less than $50 and are regularly discounted.

Gap will pay royalties and potential equity to Yeezy, which is solely owned by Mr. West, based on sales performance.

Mr. West has successfully partnered with Adidas since 2013, where his brand is positioned as its own category and he earns royalties on net sales of his shoes and apparel, The New York Times reported last June. Yeezy shoes, which can cost hundreds of dollars and even more on secondary markets, were expected to top $1.3 billion in sales last year.

The sneaker side of Yeezy was valued at as much as $3 billion last year, Bloomberg reported in April, citing a document from Bank of America.

He knows how to design and imagine, and this was a great move by the Gap.
And he knows how to get the right people to produce his vision, similarly to Michael Jackson getting John Landis, Disney and other creatives and brilliant minds to see out his vision.

No other artists have anything on Kanye and Michael Jackson, because their creativity is not limited, and can touch any platform.

And he is releasing A Kids see ghost animation series and movie with Kid Cud.

I don’t like him from a personal stand point.

But this dude and his wife are doing some incredible shit...man

He just just trademarked Yeezy for beauty and self care products. His wife just cut a deal with Spotify to develop and produce a criminal law podcast, and she is in the process of getting her law degree.

And he is in the process of designing and developing low income housing.

I mean seriously from a creative and developing point, he is just keeps evolving

Kardashians were popular cheesy celebrities. Kim would have never been on the cover of Vogue or become a regular in the fashion world.

In comes Kanye, changes her whole look and brand, gets Kendall Jenner connections with modeling, and now their brand is high demand .

You're comparing master p's fashion line to kanye west? dude

This isn't just a rapper or mc who put his name on a line. Kanye has a fashion line ( similar to that of other high fashion designers) and models his line at fashion week and high fashion runways. This dude is trying to create his own fashion house and manufacturing similar to the manufacturing companies that all the big designers have to go to..... That is what he was arguing with Sway about.

Kanye is trying to go to where no other black designers have gone.

This dude said master P!

Kanye has his own brand with Adidas similar to that of Michael Jordan with Nike, and now he is GOING TO HAVE TOTAL CREATIVE CONTROL WITH GAP's fashion line

Warhol and Master P is nowhere near what Kanye is trying to do.

come on bro, seriously

Posted by allStah, Fri Jun-26-20 03:47 PM
missed earnings big time. They were expected to have an increase in EPS by 5 cents, they had a loss of 51 cents!

In the mean time, Gap stock rose by 2 dollars.

Should have renewed the Yeezy line, instead of being intimidated by his sales. Yeah, they got their athletes, but with no sports you can't influence people, so shoes don't sell. Entertainers, etc, can still do virtual business to influence the public.

13390926, nike stock is at $90. gap stock is at $12.

13390938, Right...due to the death of retail and shopping stores
Posted by allStah, Fri Jun-26-20 05:25 PM
But just from news of getting with Kanye, the stock rose from the dead.

That's the point. That's the effect that he has, or from the news, that it jumped 2 dollars just off the concept of a collaboration.

This would be a great time to buy the Gap. It used to be 20 + dollars a share, and is trading at 12 dollars a share. The deal with Kanye is for 10 years.

Buy, and buy a lot on this one. It can do nothing but go up at this point.

But in the mean time, Nike got its guidance extremely wrong. Again the street was expecting a 5 cent increase on EPS....nike lost 51 cents on EPS! That's huge.

It's funny that both happened on the same day....has a poetic justice ring to it.

13390958, Nike's market cap is $116 billion. The Gap is $4.51 billion LOL

when has streetwear not been readily accessible (and cheaper than yeezy supply)?

when has the shit sold in places like karmaloop, drjays, etc ever been harder to get than yeezy supply?

dude just released a $75 version of bootleg crocs. thats making fashion more accessible?

then you get to the inflated prices on the secondary/re-sale market because mad people couldnt cop them from the primary one.

the entire appeal of his brand is the hysteria created around the *limited* supply lol.

Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Sun Jun-28-20 03:32 PM
I knew something was up with this dude ever since his first album dropped, when I listened to it, I paid very close to the lyrics and knew he was unbalanced how most of the songs and his cockiness, and the whole vain vibe (the same vibe I get from Dave Chappelle's comedy), if it doesn't center around him or he doesn't get the attention he think he deserves then he don't give a fuck about it.

Yeah he is a decent producer but that's cause he was putting his whole attitude into it, but when it's time to express it in other ways, it shows how a you just want to say, yeah we know it's your party and you can cry if you want to, but now isn't the time though.
