Posted by Reeq, Fri May-22-20 12:04 PM
but in an election where a lot of black people are already scrutinizing their allegiance to the democratic party...and with bidens spotty record on issues affecting black people...it was stupid and only throws gas on a flame that they should have taken painstaking measures to keep at a simmer.

he...just like hillary...thinks he is more comfortable with the black community than he is. like most politicians who dont operate under that assumption...he needs to just give straight forward pc answers on race and not do anything to trip any wires.
13385066, clearly?

Posted by mind_grapes, Sun May-24-20 06:00 PM
If my vote isn't going to matter because my district is blue, then its also pragmatic too. I don't have to worry about indirectly voting for Trump by refusing to blindly vote for someone I do not want to be president or to show loyalty to a political party that just assumes they have my support in maintaining their status quo.

Posted by GOMEZ, Fri May-22-20 12:27 PM
so if you voted 'disqualifying' how is this different than any number of other stupid things he's said on race, or legislation he created/signed/sponsored/endorsed in the past.

He's bad, and I'm disappointed we landed on him, but how would this specific incident change your opinion of him? To me it seems perfectly in line with who he is and who we've known him to be.

13385084, We for sure are getting a Black woman VP now!
Posted by lightworks, Fri May-22-20 12:36 PM
Which we always should have been getting but it is guaranteed now by this extremely fucked up comment of his.

To answer your question I think it was an extremely fucked up thing to say, white people don’t get to be the arbiter of Blackness, and I saw his senior advisor Simone Sanders was trying to write it off as a joke on Twitter, that he was just saying it in jest, and I think that’s extra shitty of her to try to spin it.

Yes she literally gets paid to defend and explain away Biden’s comments but I think going the route she did to try to spin it is a bridge too far even for her.

I’m sure Stacey’s thirsty ass is gonna jump in any minute with some explanation that ends with how she would be the perfect VP candidate.
13385089, i wouldnt be surprised if jada pinkett was on the vp short list now.
Posted by Reeq, Fri May-22-20 12:44 PM
honestly tho...it would be dope if biden was the type of artful speaker who could go on red table talk and have an open/honest discussion on race and politics to clear all of this up.

itd be such a great move for this new media/political landscape we are in.

but then again...if he was capable of doing that...then he would prolly be capable of not getting himself in this mess in the first place.
13385097, Ha! Yeah word:

>but then again...if he was capable of doing that...then he

>the first place.

Ya know, it's one thing to just fuck up and say some wack shit because you're tired from being on the campaign trail, or you just said something that came out different than how intended, or something like that...

But yeah Joe consistently says wack shit to the point of "this is a fucked up pattern that he isn't ever going to change" and it is such a shame that we as Democrats have to pay the price since we gotta hold our nose to vote for this motherfucker.
13385106, its becoming clear he isnt going to say anything positive
Posted by Reeq, Fri May-22-20 01:45 PM
or paradigm shifting in terms of mobilizing people towards his campaign. he wont really win over more pro-biden voters.

his biggest asset is clearly that his opponent is uniquely polarizing and detested by a large segment of the country. and he just has to keep anti-trump voters.

and any time he draws attention to himself and away from his opponent (which he seems hell bent on doing)...it doesnt work out well.

this is clearly a hold your nose election like you said. and liberals/dems dont have a great history of swallowing the medicine without a spoonful of sugar.

13385104, So Symone is "shitty" and Stacy is "thirsty" for defending Biden AND
Posted by kfine, Fri May-22-20 01:35 PM

he needs a black woman as a running mate??

Do yall not think that if a black woman is Biden's running mate, SHE will be the one front-and-center having to do this? Because she will. Often.

So either recognize game when you see it and cut sis some slack, or admit that the color-by-number/identity politics is stupid flawed and the representation you think you're demanding simply translates to *this* in politics right now.

Symone's just doing her job, and her identity as a black woman probably factored into the campaign wanting her to lead his defense as well. Because that's how this identity politics bs yall are pushing works.

She and Stacy are simply foreshadowing what a black woman who is NOT the public's preferred choice/leading VP polls (https://twitter.com/lewoofl/status/1261129062053023744/photo/3) getting picked anyway will be reduced to: Getting trotted out to clean up Biden's shit.

I personally want better for the first black woman on a US presidential ticket but yall are adamant so have fun *shrug*

13385110, Stacey and Symone are doing it wrong.
Posted by lightworks, Fri May-22-20 02:01 PM
Stacey didn’t do a good job defending him against the Reade claims because she used a NYT “investigation” as the basis for why she believes Biden, and it wasn’t investigative at all.

If she had just said “I believe Joe”, I wouldn’t have been able to find fault with it.

Symone harping on “come on y’all it was a joke” doesn’t work for me either and is a poor defense.

To answer your point yes a Black woman needs to be VP and yup she will have to figure out a way to defend this but I believe someone like Kamala would have found a perfect balance between defending it and still holding Biden accountable for it being a problematic “joke”, something I don’t think Stacey or Symone could pull off.

Yes you need a Black woman VP but you need a savvy and smart one that knows how to say the right thing that strikes the appropriate balance.
13385120, Kamala's had her own gaffes, incl. when it comes to talking about race,
Posted by kfine, Fri May-22-20 02:31 PM
so not sure I share your confidence about her being so much "savvier and smarter" than Stacy Abrams or Symone Sanders in this context. There's also a potential colorism layer to your remarks that I find questionable but let me not derail.

All I'm saying is it's pretty wack to shit on black women who are in positions where they basically have to defend Biden as part of their job/potential job, while demanding that a black woman be in the most visible role of defending Biden. That's some classic damned if they do damned if they don't shit.

And I disagree that his running mate *needs* to be anyone other than who it is most constituencies want and who could do the best job if elected, but that's neither here nor there.

do softball interviews at notoriously non-confrontational and friendly news outlets.

and stand next to popular dem down ballot candidates in their states.

seriously how hard is it for a mature adult not to constantly say shit that offends their own base?

this election is as close to a layup as possible in terms of being a referendum on the incumbent. just keep the fucking focus there.

Posted by Reeq, Fri May-22-20 02:42 PM
and blanketing the airwaves with video/audio clips of you on various outlets acknowledging your mistake and putting forth a concrete plan to make up for it.

all of this would be a non-story in a few days.

but given the actual candidate involved...im almost terrified to see what that would look like and what he could potentially have to apologize for as a result of the apology tour.

Posted by navajo joe, Sat May-23-20 06:47 AM
and then didn't have shit to say. So your dumb ass probably shouldn't be calling for anyone to apologize to anyone about anything.

>Folks was going in on Diddy for saying black voters need
>demands met for their ballots...and mfers in here copping
>pleas for creepy joe making jokes at a time that black people
>are disproportionately being killed by a virus
>

And who has been President during that time? Who is directly responsible for the failed preparation and response to the virus that is killing black people disproportionately?

Who has done NOTHING but enable cronies to profit while black businesses failed to receive loans, undermine states abilities to get PPE, and threaten to investigate Obama for crimes he did not commit?

Whose HHS Secretary was it that when asked about the disproportionate number of black people dying said it was because black people are unhealthy?

Who has threatened to hold back federal money from certain states for sending residents vote-by-mail applications in an effort to disenfranchise voters of color? Whose proxies in Florida and Georgia have literally manipulated data to force an early reopening knowing that back people disproportionately die of the virus?

Who praised a notorious white supremacist and Nazi icon for having a 'good bloodline' not 24-hours before Biden's gaffe? And then between the two of them apologized?

You don't care about black people dying from coronavirus so why are you acting like you do? You don't care about the fate of black people in this country so why are you acting like you do? When there is anything that affects black people you don't have shit to say. But the second Biden's name comes up you pop up like some kind of woke Candyman ready to talk greasy again until you vanish again. You're a fucking clown.

You claim to be worried about ballots while Trump and his administration are trying to make sure black people can't even get a fucking ballot.

Apologize? Go somewhere and sit down. You don't have the mind or the heart for this and you bring shame on your ancestors.

We had more than enough time to debate this and choose a better candidate.

We chose Joe.

and now we have to deal with his foot in mouth disease.
13385314, >We chose Joe
Posted by mind_grapes, Sun May-24-20 02:00 PM
Did we though? Biden was completely irrelevant until Bloomberg threw a whole bunch of money into running, just so he could intentionally split the vote and keep Bernie from solidifying his lead (and thus tax the shit out of him if he won).
13385315, Bloomberg split Bernie's vote?
Posted by stravinskian, Sun May-24-20 02:11 PM
13385320, as in he wanted to split all of the votes and trigger a brokered convention
Posted by mind_grapes, Sun May-24-20 03:14 PM
Right before Super Tuesday he was all about staying in the race and going through with a brokered convention to stop Bernie who he straight up said was unelectable (even though he was very competitive right before Super Tuesday).

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/02/bloomberg-not-dropping-out-119109

When he saw that Biden had won, then he like the others immediately dropped out to support the centrist option.

Edit: I do concede that Biden won super tuesday because more people chose him than Bernie. I was moreso trying to make a point that nearly every other democratic candidate did not want Bernie to win. And there was a concerted effort to select anyone but him by establishment dems
13385326, apparently the voters are establishment dems too.

13385322, that's part of the larger point I was trying to make
Posted by mind_grapes, Sun May-24-20 03:54 PM
that there was a concerted effort on multiple sides of the party to stop Sanders. And that most likely explains why he did worse on Super Tuesday than he did in 2016. If the field wasn't intentionally overcrowded, then I don't think Biden would have emerged. And then by the time corona hit everyone just acted like the rest of the primaries were over and we are stuck with Biden.
13385324, Lol, "intentionally overcrowded."

So in '16 the evil Democrats installed Hillary by stopping anyone else from running. In '20 they installed Joe by making TOO MANY people run.

13385330, i dont think the democratic party is evil
Posted by mind_grapes, Sun May-24-20 04:47 PM
but they clearly have a vested interest in Bernie not getting the nomination. I also think Hillary vs. Bernie was much fairer than the clusterfuck we had this primary. At least Hillary Clinton was competent and could form coherent responses to things. I was also looking forward to her being president and had family who was on her campaign. The only thing I look forward to about Biden being the president is that he quickly dies in office and Elizabeth Warren goes from VP to Pres.

I also don't think we "chose Trump" over Hilary. There was all kinds of fuckery that went into stopping Hilary from becoming president. I think a much milder form of this fuckery also explains why we "choose" Biden over Bernie. Manufacturing consent is real.

13385334, like maybe winning the general election?
Posted by Reeq, Sun May-24-20 05:09 PM
>but they clearly have a vested interest in Bernie not getting
>the nomination.

democrats (which include the voters) didnt wanna nominate a candidate who alienated 2/3 of the party and who would have been non competitive and tanked every down ballot race in just about every swing state you need to win in 2020.

bernie didnt win a single county in michigan fam. a single county. in michigan.

you think a candidate like that should have gotten the nomination?
13385342, At least Bernie had populist support
Posted by mind_grapes, Sun May-24-20 05:48 PM
And the election would come down to what the economy is looking like right before the election anyway. If it wasn't for corona, then I really don't think Biden would stand a chance against Trump. He would have run circles around him. It would be like Hilary 2.0, but if Hilary was actually senile and consistently said dumb, unprompted shit. I don't even think Obama thought he had a chance, until Super Tuesday.
13385345, populist support = losing both the black and white working class?

13385336, afraid of him destroying the party maybe.
Posted by Reeq, Sun May-24-20 05:23 PM
other than that...im not sure you have to worry too much about someone who couldnt appeal to more than 30% of the party.

i mean...young voters...his core audience...werent even inspired to show up for him. that doesnt really sound like a movement to fear. i think a lot of people fooled themselves into believing bernie represented something greater than he did in reality.

Posted by mind_grapes, Sun May-24-20 05:28 PM
but to be honest, I also didnt bother to watch them. If anything interesting happened then it would be turned into a soundbite or a meme the next day. I really thought it would have been between Warren and Sanders, since no one seemed enthusiastic about Biden. I even thought that turd Buttijieg was more competitive than Biden toward the end there. But Im also from DC and that was a bubble of enthusiastic support for Bernie.
13385344, this reply is really super typical of a lot of bernie supporters.
Posted by Reeq, Sun May-24-20 06:19 PM
and i dont mean that as a diss.

its the reason i started gradually removing myself from the online 'progressive' echo chamber. because it was making me somewhat delusional to how the country (and average people) really work.

when you are constantly having your biases confirmed and your perspective reinforced even against all evidence to the contrary...you start believing things like rally size, hand selected polls, soundbites and memes, etc are more substantive than they really are (because they work in your favor).

and you start dismissing/overlooking real concrete historical voter behavior that really matters...like the fact that virtually every dem nominee for decades has won south carolina and the national black vote (they go hand in hand for the most part).

or you start believing that youre part of some unstoppable vast broad diverse coalition because your candidate is endorsed by a handful of progressive congressional women of color (compared to the majority of black/hispanic caucus members).

or you start believing that you represent the real heart of a party that wins its congressional majorities overwhelmingly with politicians you deem to be out of touch with the party base. and you believe the candidate you most align with is the best positioned to lead an entire party whose voters rejected him by significant margins. twice.

that entire media ecosystem now (young turks, the intercept, kyle kulinkski, currentaffairs, etc) has turned into 1 big ideological massage parlor that has become less about informing their audience and more about narcotizing them into a false sense of influence/acceptance/popularity of their perspective/agenda.
13385390, you're projecting a lot with that reply
Posted by mind_grapes, Mon May-25-20 12:34 AM
i don't care about Bernie now that he has dropped out. i liked him because he was the first Leftist candidate I remember seeing that made it this far. And he was able to do that by packaging his more radical ideas as populist 99% percent rhetoric. That is not the same thing as me believing he actually has universal or 99% populist support. Just that he explicitly frames his message to have populist appeal.

And no, I do not think Progressives or Liberals are the same as Leftists. I also think Leftists are FAR from having significant support from Americans. In fact, I've always assumed they are hated by most Americans. Leftists are essentially "mask on" socialists and "mask off" Marxists. The kind of people who think work is a form of "wage slavery" and that landlords are scum. I am under no assumption that this is something most Americans would agree with or is even what most Americans think of as progressive.

Before Sanders went into politics he existed on the fringes. Like the kinda of person who would rather have odd jobs, be mostly unemployed, and contribute to Leftist publications that no one reads, then take advantage of the fact that he graduated from the University of Chicago and could have got a real job. Most Americans would think he was a straight-up freak if they knew what he was like before going into civil service.

I really don't know what Socialists in America look like, because my introduction to it was through academia--which reads esoteric texts on "critical theory" and are very much cultural snobs. These guys are also a lot more niche than the white millennial college students and recent grads who make up the memebers of local chapters of the DSA. But aside from those two groups, I think you are overlooking a lot of poorer white guys who work blue collar jobs and make up "the scum bag Left" (like the people who listen to the Chapotraphouse podcast). It's usually these guys who typify what people think of as ardent Bernie Bros.

I think most Black voters are going to go with the most popular candidate UNLESS it’s a once in a lifetime candidate like Obama.

and Obama needed his wife and Oprah to help convince us he was legit. Early on no one really rocked with Obama. I had to do a lot of convincing with my dad and older relatives because voting for some dude named Obama over Hillary sounded crazy early on.

but it’s always funny how Black candidates get a shit ton of scrutiny over their record with Black folk while people like Biden get an easy pass. Then he says dumb shit and Black people are like “how could he?”

No one should be surprised. Biden has said some crazy shit over the years regarding Black folk.

13500837, Way More Bothered by Drumpf's NYT Ad Regarding Central Park 5

I know that there's a younger generation who weren't alive for that, but Google is a thing.

As someone who is the age that those young men were and could've easily been in their shoes, I don't think I'll ever forget how Drumpf called for the death penalty for those young men.

They were immediately villainized and then railroaded by the NYPD.

Try again, hater. The Republicans are the ones (some) people love!

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Former President Donald Trump claimed that Black people like him because he has faced discrimination in the legal system, which is something they can relate to.

"I got indicted a second time and a third time and a fourth time, and a lot of people said that that’s why the Black people like me, because they have been hurt so badly and discriminated against, and they actually viewed me as I’m being discriminated against," he said.

"I’m being indicted for you, the American people. I’m being indicted for you, the Black population. I am being indicted for a lot of different groups by sick people, these are sick, sick people," Trump said Friday night in a speech at the Black Conservative Federation's annual gala, at which he received the "Champion of Black America" award.

Trump, throughout his nearly two-hour speech, suggested his support from Black Americans stem from their understanding of how corrupt systems can lead to "great evil."

"Some of the greatest evils in our nation's history have come from corrupt systems that try to target and subjugate others to deny them their freedom and to deny them their rights," Trump said. "I think that's why the Black people are so much on my side now because they see what's happening to me happens to them."

Trump said Black Americans showcased their support for him through their embrace of merchandise emblazoned with his mug shot.

"My mug shot — we’ve all seen the mug shot, and you know who embraced it more than anybody else? The Black population," Trump said. "You see Black people walking around with my mug shot, you know, they do shirts and they sell them for $19 apiece. It’s pretty amazing — millions by the way."

Trump appeared at the event with other Black Republican politicians, including Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, Reps. Wesley Hunt of Texas and Byron Donalds of Florida, and Ben Carson, who was Trump's Department of Housing and Urban Development secretary.

Adam Wasolis Sr., 33, from the Bronx, New York, said he agreed with Trump's characterization of his appeal to Black voters.

"I definitely understand why some Black men may feel they resonate with his issues, because most of the issues that have plagued black men were legal issues," said Wasolis, who is vice chair of the New York Young Republican Black Caucus.

Ahead of the gala, Jasmine Harris, the Biden campaign’s Black media director, called Trump an "anti-Black tyrant" and "the proud poster boy for modern racism."

"This is the same man who falsely accused the Central Park Five, questioned George Floyd’s humanity, compared his own impeachment trial to being lynched, and ensured the unemployment gap for Black workers spiked during his presidency," Harris said.

"Donald Trump has been showing Black Americans his true colors for years: An incompetent, anti-Black tyrant who holds us to such low regard that he publicly dined with white nationalists a week after declaring his 2024 candidacy," she added.

Trump, for his part, called Biden a "racist" Friday night.

"Joe Biden really has proven to be a very nasty and vicious racist. He's been a racist," Trump said. "Whether you like it or don't like it. I happen not to like it. Joe Biden really has proven to be a very nasty and vicious racist. He's been a racist. ... Biden spent years palling around with notorious segregationists, you know that."

The Biden campaign did not immediately return a request for comment on Trump's remarks.

Biden served with segregationists including former South Carolina Sen. Strom Thurmond, and he has touted his ability to compromise with them. This week, Biden said he had served with "real racists" in in his long career but that the current Republican Party was worse.

"I’ve served with Strom Thurmond. I’ve served with all these guys that have set terrible records on race. But guess what? These guys are worse. These guys do not believe in basic democratic principles," he said at a fundraiser in California.

Trump's comments come as his allies prepare to launch an effort to deliver a historic chunk of the Black vote to Republicans in the 2024 elections.

"We have coalition groups across the country that are set to roll out initiatives very, very soon in those communities, that will focus on voter outreach and engagement and things like messaging in Black communities," Darrell Scott, a Black Ohio-based pastor who is a Trump adviser and helping lead the effort, told NBC News.

Organizers for the Black Conservative Federation said during their event that they're mobilizing groups nationwide in hopes of ensuring Trump wins the majority of the Black male vote in a general election matchup against Biden.

"I believe that President Trump is going to get 50% of the Black male vote," Black Conservative Federation President Diante Johnson said. "The Democratic Party has literally pushed Black men aside."

There's nothing to refute about my statement so starting your rebuttal with "false" immediately nullifies ALL that bullshit you typed.

But have a good one though!

"Way More Bothered by Trump's Ad in the NYT Regarding the Central Park 5"

How can you refute what I'm way more bothered by? You can't. Saying it's false made me disregard all that gibberish you wasted your time and energy typing.

Even after they were exonerated, that obese, orange clown refused to apologize.
