It's not a diss to say that lauryn is not a MC. A lot of true hip hop heads feel that way, and when I mean true, cats who grew up on it in the golden era. ..84-90
A lot of her Peers feel that way as well. Here is Trina and why she does not consider Lauryn an MC. She sees it as a fusion like hip hop soul music or poetry meeting music. I feel the same way. It's not a diss.

I grew up off true MCING....so my ear is different. And lauryn is good soul artist who can rhyme. But I don't consider her an MC
