13380042, What would be a better way to end Do The Right Thing?
Posted by Bambino Grande, Wed Apr-22-20 08:16 AM

Its obviously a great movie and EASILY Spike's best imo

Could it have ended on a different note, or is it perfect as is?

I'm not sure what Spike intended the audience to feel about how the story wraps, maybe I'm just dumb tho
13380084, Don't you dare touch the ending of The Right Thing!

No way to neatly wrap it up. No feel good ending is appropriate. Super sad and melodramatic would betray the first 90% of the movie.

I think the ending is true to life in that cop kills a black person and life goes on.

I don't think Spike was trying to say anything in particular. I think he wantedd to show what happens and let you take what you want from it.

13380094, Scene: the burning building starts to come down on Smiley
Posted by MEAT, Wed Apr-22-20 10:07 AM
Mookie screams: "nooooooo"

Camera cuts to Officer Ponte in the car driving away

Dispatch comes through "a fire at Sals Pizzeria, calling first available unit"

The officers look at each other knowingly

Cop car turns around, signature Spike Lee floating shot, but done in a vehicle and dual screen

Officer Long goes to open the fire hose

It's jammed

The kids from earlier show up to help him

Officer Ponte runs into the pizzeria

Smiley stutters: m-m-mu-mu-murderer
Officer Ponte: I'm trying to help you

Italian pictures start falling off the wall, slow pan on them catch flames

Sal yells from the street: HURRY!

Ponte grabs Smiley and runs for the door but it's jammed. They pick up the trash can Mookie threw together and hurl it into the door, it opens and they collapse on the street

The Mayor extends a hand to help up Ponte: Come here Doc

Ponte looks up

Mayor: Doctor, always do the right thing

Officer Long runs over out of breath: is that it?

Mookie looking at the flames whispers to himself: that's it

Vito: I got it

Pino: I'm gone

END

13380101, This is pretty good

I could see this too 100% lol

13380105, It's comically bad & made specifically for a person who liked Green Book

>And Crash
13380109, instead of obnoxiously turning it up, Raheem turns it down a bit
Posted by Mynoriti, Wed Apr-22-20 11:01 AM
Sal smiles wistfully and hangs 2 pictures on the wall, one of Jackie Robinson and one of MLK (that he bought from Smiley)

Pino asks what song was on the radio. Bugginout says, come on, we know you love black music

They all laugh

Raheem an Bugginout teach Sal and Pino some dance moves. They have clumsy rhythm at first but they get it as good as they can for white dudes.

Pino gets a little too into it and Mookie says, see, what did i tell you? you know what they say about dark eyetalians"

They all laugh

Mookie picks up a trash can and moves it to the other side of the room. He puts litter in it.

Other random scenes on the street ensue. The Korean grocer gives a free piece fruit to a hasidic jewish man.

The Mayor is giving relationship advice to a young white couple new to the neighborhood.

crane shot pulls away from the street. It was a tense day but they got through it together.

Spike wins best director. DTRT wins best picture

your shit is both too funny and witty for it just to live here
13380457, lol i rarely tweet
Posted by Mynoriti, Thu Apr-23-20 03:15 PM
i don't even think i have 100 followers so i'll maybe get like 1 like every 3 tweets and a rt every 20 lol, so by comparison my twitter is waay more dead than this place.

i don't have the energy to put work into twitter, plus too many people are shitty to each other there, so if i spend too much time on it it makes me want to be a dick too haha

thanks for the kind words though, fam.

Your back hand compliment didn't go unnoticed.

It's not his best ( for me ) , as in he has made other great movies.
13380139, What movie did you think was better
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Apr-22-20 12:48 PM
There is no wrong answer.

Jungle Fever
X
School Daze
Clockers are all great movies imo.

Nothing tops DTRT tho.

Prolly one of my favorite movies ever.
13380142, Crooklyn is up there imo

The cast, subtle brilliance and acting of 25th hour, the acting
of HE got game, the authenticity and camera work of Malcolm X,
The coolness and expressionism of Mo Betta,

25th Hour
He got game
Malcolm X
Mo Betta
She’s gotta have it

So you see why by the poster saying “easily his best” is such a huge disregard...
Spike got some absolute Gems, just brilliant work.

And my personal list is overlooking movies like Clockers, Crooklyn, Blackklansman ,Inside Man, etc.

Spike is so underrated, even by his own culture, is mind numbing. Dude if you were to put Woody Allen’s name on 25th hour or Martin Scorsesce on Inside Man...it would be nothing but high praise.

13380272, i still think DTRT is his clear best
Posted by Mynoriti, Thu Apr-23-20 12:02 AM
even though 25th Hour and He Got Game are my personal favorites.

the case could be made for X being his best tho
13380280, Agreed 100%

13380286, I’m a huge Spike fan and would never see that as disrespect
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Apr-23-20 07:36 AM
but that’s just because I think DTRT is one of the best films to ever be made.

I love that movie.
