sometimes folks selling/giving away stuff like that are just weirdos and don't want to interact with humans so they will leave items on the porch or curb for retrieval. I've coped a few nice things for free & cheap that way before.
Brand new Ikea shelving
Brand new bags of mulch
Brand new lumber
Tools, etc...
Even though it's a come up, I do be feeling like I'm about to get hemmed up when I go to retrieve. I bet white folks don't be feeling like that.
