I just read something about this a little while back. It started with alt-right types during Obama's first term, then obviously picked up steam with conservatives/repugs in general as time went on. They had 3 rules for when they are confronted about, say, their racism. Think it was something like: don't get defensive, turn it around on them/accuse the accusers of being what they say you are (in this example, racist), and deflect/change the subject/muddy the waters with whataboutisms.

It's truly fucked up.
