(And I should admit I'm not 100% sure Mitch has the power to table the impeachment trial. That just seems to be a power he's used with impunity on everything else.)
To be honest, unless someone can come up with some halfway convincing talking points the GOP senators will have to be pretty fucking evasive over the coming year to actually avoid taking sides in the media.
But the actual impeachment trial itself, sadly all it is is a specific, clear, unambiguous constitutional requirement, which means it's only as certain as people's respect for the constitution.
