just looked up my wedding venue, historic revolution era farmstead in our area (SE PA, assumption is of course no slaves because as we all learned in school, PA was a free state, except not really)

So there were no slaves at this farm. BUT wait... after the revolution he was gifted two derelict rice plantations by the state of GA that had been seized from loyalists. So of course this freedom fighter bought slaves to work them.

I'm guessing silence.

The whole thing was fucking bizarre to me. They had this one area all set up for wedding receptions and it was like 20 feet from the little slave cabins. Kids were walking around eating ice cream cones. WTF. It was interesting to see but I felt gross paying for it.

and the whole time I was there, I NEVER patronized one of those places... I said "NOPE". thank the Matrix I was past the age that I might have been taken as a child on a field trip

i was looking for things to do when i visit SC in july and plantations were on the list. i dont understand the appeal.

I think it's important for folks to go if they're really about trying to get some sort of impression of what the south was like and what plantation life was like for both slaves and the oppressors.
I don't recall the name, but the one we went to did a decent job of presenting the place in a historical context and not a romanticizing one...but at the same time...it is fcked up that they have no problem renting the place out for Weddings and parties. You gotta be a fcked up human being to actively seek partying or having a wedding on a plantation.

part of our Louisiana History course in the 8th grade.

I recall being excited that we were on a field trip and that I got to kick it with my boys during the school day for a period longer than our P.E. class and recess. They were not in any of my classes because I was the chosen one that teachers wanted to have in the Honors classes. Anyway, I also recall not liking being on the plantation or in the house because of what it represented. I remember being pissed off that the some of the white kids thought the shit was cool and had jokes they would not dare, then, recite aloud.

I did like the Spanish moss hanging from the trees that lined the main path leading to the house. Otherwise, I'd like to believe that either they don't take the students on these tours any longer or that, if they do, the students are provided the most complete context possible about it all.

The people there were talking about all the places to visit in the area and they mention some old plantation house that used to have slaves.

I'm in TacBeezy for da breakfast menu a few months back. Got a couple Fiesta-potato burritos(the jawns wit da Pico)....
Fast-forward like 20 minutes, it get good to a ninja bowels so I slide to the commode to drop joints.

While I'm givin birth, I hear dis Christian-Bale-on-the-set-of-Batman-temper-tantrum-havin azz ninja come inna spot demanding to use the bathroom(you gotta cop somethin before they give you bathroom access). Dude goes verbatim, "I've been holding it all morning, I'm not gonna buy anything, I need to use the bathroom RIGHT NOW!"
