13313842, When and why did Champion become so popular???
Posted by 81 DUN, Thu Feb-14-19 07:03 PM
I’ll admit they do have some dope stuff now but not for the price they want for it. Back in the days all that shit was at Ross and TJ Maxx
13313852, Champion was poppin in the early 90s.
Posted by IkeMoses, Thu Feb-14-19 07:36 PM
13313877, they used to be the it brand for uniforms
Posted by makaveli, Thu Feb-14-19 10:45 PM
then adidas (do they still do uniforms?) and Nike took over.
13313944, copped so many jerseys at Champion outlet as a kid
Posted by DJR, Fri Feb-15-19 10:26 AM
They practically gave away anything with defects, so finding the jerseys with very minor and unnoticeable defects for the low was the move. That was easily one of my favorite places on earth when I was like 11-14 years old.
13314105, Some of the champion jerseys are super dope

13313865, It's expensive now?
Posted by Marauder21, Thu Feb-14-19 09:14 PM
That was the official affordable hoodie of the 1990's, I wish I would've held on to some now that they're vintage or whatever.

I thought you might have been talking about the Kanye song which is one of his best imo. I used to rock Champion back in the day. Hoodies, sweats, b-ball shorts.

nice thickness and durable.
13313890, The early 90’s champion hoodie was the shit youngin’
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Feb-15-19 06:13 AM
13313892, Fila too...

13313897, My cousin in Detroit came to Pittsburgh every summer...
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Feb-15-19 07:54 AM
with the fly shit.

Around 88 or 89 he showed up with Fila shoes, sweats, towels.

Also put us up on Rappin’ Duke and Freddy Kruger

Detroit was always ahead of Pittsburgh when it came to new shit.
13314338, I Still Wear An Early 90's Hoodie
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Mon Feb-18-19 10:46 PM
I friend of mines gave it too me one day cause I didn't have a jacket on cause it was cold one night but didn't want to wait for me to go back to my spot to get mines.

A few days later he had to go back home, and forgot some of his clothes, and left his Champion hoodie cause it was warm weather, so i kept it thinking I would give it to him the next time I saw him; even though I haven't seen dude since '93 but haven't talked to him since '97, he was like keep it homie.

Anyways, about a year ago I was washing a bunch of old clothes and was like wow I still got this, started wearing it again, and it still fits even though I've gained a few pounds & shit, it still holds up, only thing wrong is a rip near the opening of the right pocket.

13313891, 1990-1992....I had a maroon sweatshirt with the big embroidered C logo
Posted by FLUIDJ, Fri Feb-15-19 07:12 AM
....couldn't tell me SHIT when I rocked that joint...
13313898, They were perfect for winter time after basketball practice

13313899, A lady in 7-11 was like OH SHIT! WE MATCHIN
Posted by T Reynolds, Fri Feb-15-19 07:58 AM
when I had on my Champion sweats, she had on all Champion everything

It struck me that they have rebranded and come back. They streamlined the sweats into being slimmer / more like joggers. Not sure how else they engineered the comeback and whose market share they're eating up.

But I remember Champion hoodies were coveted in the early to mid 90s, in LA back then for some reason they had Russell more than anything and it was really hard to find Champion. The hoods had the point vs. the rounded ass hoods of the Russell that didn't look as cool, and the Russells would shrink and fit a little funny. Champion quality was just way better.
13313914, In the last few years, high-classed designers have had capsule collections...
Posted by Creole, Fri Feb-15-19 08:56 AM
with them to bring them back to life.

Kith
Off-White
Supreme
Vetements
Gucci

Having those designers around has helped the sales of their regular stuff too. Saw an older lady last night, at the Jess Hilarious show, who was rocking a Champion sweatsuit from head-to-toe. The logo was printed all over it. Shit was ugly!

Edit:
Back in the early 90s, their stuff was sold right next to Nike in all of the sneaker stores and flea markets like the Pennsauken one in NJ. Wasn't til thr '00s that they fell off and were really found in the Ross, TJ, and Marshalls stores.

13313940, It’s been back the last 2-3 years
Posted by DJR, Fri Feb-15-19 10:24 AM
The reverse weave sweatshirts are the $50-$60 ones, and are good quality.
13313947, they've been trying for years.
Posted by tariqhu, Fri Feb-15-19 10:30 AM
before sports authority closed, they had some nice gear in there. now I see some stuff in macy's.

I wonder the same about Fila sometimes. old heads walking around Fila down in new shit.

if we're going Italian, bring back diadora!
13314048, I’ve been seeing more and more kids rocking Fila too
Posted by DJR, Fri Feb-15-19 03:09 PM
And stores like Foot Locker and Champs have a Fila section again. I haven’t seen that in years.

90’s nostalgia is trendy now. Kids are wearing Hilfiger again too.
13313963, Jayblac charging people now?
Posted by Kira, Fri Feb-15-19 11:04 AM
COTY and COTN was enough but now we gotta pay for more?

... WAIT, y'all still rocking Champion apparel? Go to old Navy instead. Paying slot of money for champion tells me y'all love giving away money. Put that money into black designers and keep it in the community.
13313972, Is Old Navy Black owned? You just be posting shit bruh.
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Feb-15-19 11:26 AM
Haven’t worn Champion in decades but I’m pretty sure their quality is better than Old Navy... and I have nothing against Old Navy.

13313980, Iono fam... I got Old Navy fleece that's 10 years old and STILL in
Posted by FLUIDJ, Fri Feb-15-19 11:56 AM
tip top shape..

Matter of fact, i'm wearing a blue Old Navy sweatshirt right now that is at least 5 years old.

I don't even buy anything BUT Old Navy t-shirts (the plain joints..v-necks & round necks). I stock up at the end of the season usually when they have them on sale for like $5

"Get ready....for your blessing....."
13313984, I rock the Old Navy Tee’s
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Feb-15-19 12:07 PM
but some of their heavier stuff hasn’t held up as well

13314040, I made two different statements.

If someone is a fiscal conservative buy old Navy. It would be even better if they bought from black owned designers.
13314052, Good video on the rise, fall, and rise of Champion

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkvcfgFI2_Y&t=581s

Essentially the comeback is partly due to 90's nostalgia, separate corporate brands under the "Champion" name coming back together, and smart partnerships/collaborations with celebs.

Goes well with a pack of newports (or black & mild) & an early 00s Pontiac or Buick,
13314066, Lol, big logos and all over print logos are horrific
Posted by DJR, Fri Feb-15-19 04:29 PM
The classic, more understated small C logo, or just the script across the chest, or the small script on the left side of the chest are the way to go.
13314067, Yeah I feel like it was kind of cool for a minute
Posted by sectachrome86, Fri Feb-15-19 04:48 PM
but its already jumped the shark again
13314069, Has Diadora stayed popular and I just been sleeping?
Posted by tully_blanchard, Fri Feb-15-19 04:57 PM
Tried to cop a pair online last week and the prices are too high for what I think Diadora should be.
