13311039, Anyone notice Youtube's music recommendation/autoplay stinks now?
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Fri Feb-01-19 11:35 AM
I swear youtube had one of the best autoplay and recommending great songs after picking one song. Way superior to Spotify whose radio based off a song feature is garbage.

But lately, Youtube Music keeps trying to play the same song for me. I like Return of the Mack, but I don't want to hear it every time I play a song on YT.

Seems like Pandora is the only music services with a music recommendation feature worth a damn (maybe Apple Music, but don't use Apple stuff).

Anyone else experiencing this? Did they tweak their algorithm or some shit?

13311115, Right. But didn't it use to be really good?

13311044, I’ve been listening to House and old soul

How does my auto play go from Alexander O’Neal to Mall Grab because I played house the day before?

Shit sucks.

I’m getting the same 20 songs. They must be using the same algorithm as Facebook
13311067, I actually feel like Spotify's recommendations have improved lately...

When I listen to an album or playlist the autogenerated playlists that follow are usually right on point. Same vibe as what I was listening to with a mix of familiar stuff by the same artists/genre and new stuff within the genre that I wasn't aware of.
13311072, Spotify recs are on point

I lean heavily on those Artist Radio playlists too.
13311090, agreed

i tend to listen to albums on repeat, but when i don't and it auto switches to radio, i've found a bunch of new stuff i liked
13311108, There have been times when the album/playlist ended and I just thought
Posted by soulfunk, Fri Feb-01-19 02:51 PM
whatever song came on was actually on the album or playlist until I look down at my phone and realize that it's on a Spotify recommendation.
13311109, Yeah, Spotify's recs have always worked with me

YouTube is a nightmare, though
13311114, Spotify daily mix and discovery playlist is good. It's Artist and Song Radio

is trash for me.

13311084, Whatever artist I'm playing, YT just plays more of their songs...
Posted by flipnile, Fri Feb-01-19 01:23 PM
...usually ones that I've already played.

If I'm listening to Nirvana, YT just suggests/autoplays Nirvana songs that I've listened to in the past. Rarely does the service ever play a Nirvana song I haven't heard, or even jump to songs off an album I haven't played.

If that doesn't work, then it seems to default to whatever I play the most.

I have to look up discographies and search by song title to make sure that I'm not missing anything. Why suggest 7/10 songs off an album, but *never* suggest the other 3/10 that I've never played?
13311131, YT's algorithm is too sensitive

whereas Spotify is rock solid

you click one off link on YT and it fucks your whole stream up

with Spotify you have to at least listen to 2 or 3 albums worth.
13311149, you have to train it, about half my work day is spent on youtube...
Posted by ThaTruth, Fri Feb-01-19 04:08 PM
these days so it does a pretty good job for me lol
13313034, How do you train it? I have over 100 liked songs. That aint' enough?

13311540, I think my phone is spying on me. My YT recommendation has improved
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Feb-04-19 01:22 PM
It’s totally different. Maybe I was too close in genre when creating a mix.
