13305581, Cord-cutters: Watching less TV
Posted by hardware, Wed Jan-09-19 12:02 PM
have you found that over time you've just plain stopped really having the same diet for consuming shows/movies?

i know my habits have been streamlined, and i just feel weird sitting down to look at tv more than once a week. When i was younger i used to BE the tv guide, now i just watch a show whenever. i'd probably get rid of netflix if my SO didn't watch it.

The last thing i watched was Luke Cage, and before that i hadn't touched it for 8 months.
13305594, So, you rely instead on that that platinum pornhub subscription?

13305600, yeah, we cut the cord. We have netlflix, sling and a borrow hulu acct
Posted by GROOVEPHI, Wed Jan-09-19 12:29 PM
my wife and I watch an average of 3 hours of TV a week.
Mostly ratchet TV: Black ink, love and hip hop, How to get away with murder.

i've been catchign up on season 2 of atlanta, but i still only watch 1-2 eps a week. we hardly have time to watch TV, so i'm glad we cut the cord. cable was just money wasted.
13305606, Not less, just from different sources
Posted by Ishwip, Wed Jan-09-19 12:47 PM
Netflix, Hulu w/ HBO, Sling, and Amazon Prime. Antenna for sports on the local stations.

With some exceptions we do tend to get behind on shows and then blow through them at our leisure.

Hulu and Netflix
my Hulu connect has the prime channels too

Called Comcast to change plans. Talked them down a little over $100 per month. May reduce it even further once I figure out the best way to keep them premium up/down Internet speeds we currently get as part of the package.

As much as I want to be around for all of the great programming that is occurring these days, I want to exercise, read, and be out in them volunteering streets more.

NetFlix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime may be all we need. I'll just have to watch Showtime and HBO shows later than I normally would. I am considering getting the HBO Now subscription though since it's less than $20 per month.

Just found this and am about to go through it to see if it helps because I'm not cutting it out altogether. Not at all!

13305621, We watch wayyyyyy more sports now...
Posted by Marbles, Wed Jan-09-19 01:06 PM

Since we only watch sports live, we tend to watch games when they're on. We rarely watch scripted TV shows on the night they're broadcast. Most of our shows get the on-demand treatment.
13305742, after cutting the cord 14 years ago
Posted by Fire1986, Wed Jan-09-19 05:54 PM
I recently found myself around cable tv again for an extended amount of time. I started watching the Scientology channel and MSNBC. I like that Martin plays back to back so often, but New Looney Tunes is defamation and the commercials on all networks are much too crafty and catchy now.
13305777, Never had a cord, all I watch are Eagles games & the occasional...
Posted by flipnile, Thu Jan-10-19 09:14 AM
...Netflix series. Last one I watched was "Stranger Things."

Still use the converter box plugged into a monitor to watch the games.

Hobbies have taken over.
13305778, Not sure. I watch sports live
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Jan-10-19 09:32 AM
prolly watch the same amount but it’s wxacrly what I want to watch and when I want to watch it.

One good thing about the Steelers missing the playoffs is no emotional investment in who wins in the playoffs. If I miss it, I just miss it.

I got young kids too. So watching anything is a chore unless it’s their show.
13305793, initially i did watch less
Posted by mista k5, Thu Jan-10-19 10:24 AM
back when i had cable, like 10 years ago and maybe for a couple months on and off after we would just have it on with nothing to watch. just channel surf.

i think i watch too much tv now. its mostly youtube clips. i do need to reduce that and be more productive with my time.
13305942, I'm much more intentional about tv watching now
Posted by Cocobrotha2, Thu Jan-10-19 03:03 PM
I used to spend as much time LOOKING for something to watch as I spent watching tv.

Now I've got maybe 5 channels I really watch and Youtube. If I don't find anything right away, I leave the TV alone and find something else to do.

If I'm in the mood for a movie, I'll go to Netflix or Prime.

13305969, It’s like music. Before iTunes was poppin I bought albums
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Jan-10-19 03:46 PM
but I missed on a lot so I would listen to the same few albums

When iTunes dropped i spent more money but it was specifically what I wanted to hear.

It’s been so long since I had cable and when I go to my fam for the weekend and they have cable I realize there is a lot of shit I have no interest in. I always end up using Netflix or whatever that thing isn’t called that has the cable shows you can watch immediately on their network servers.

Unless it’s sports I can’t see any reason for someone to have cable.
13305955, Before I officially cut the cord I was off TV
Posted by Mafamaticks, Thu Jan-10-19 03:35 PM
Half of it is reality TV shows anyway. Now I only really turn it on if it's a show I'm interested in watching.

Then when that season is over or if I have down time I'm usually watching YouTube videos of either IT training or hobbies
13306000, the last movie i watched was the first captain america movie
Posted by bearfield, Thu Jan-10-19 04:42 PM
the last movie i enjoyed watching was inception. i can't remember the last tv show i watched. maybe parks & rec. i haven't paid a cable bill since the early 2000s

i mostly play video games. i do watch a lot of yt though: recipe and cooking videos, hip hop videos and interviews, long form video essays on random stuff, nba highlights/panel discussions

13306061, Now That More & More Shows Are Running To Netflix...
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Fri Jan-11-19 02:50 AM
...it's seems like all the good tv programming is gone from regular tv stations (NBC, ABC, CBS, & Fox), I've never been a fan of sitting down to watch tv on my computer, and I still don't have a smart tv, just regular extended cable.

With Netflix taking the good scripted shows, it's become more of reality & celebrity (needs work to keep their bills paid) shows fest, I probably watch maybe five out of a hundred of these shows (anything that deals with Chef Ramsey, The Braxtons Family Values, Property Brothers, Storage Wars, People's Court, & Growing Up Hip-Hop) but most of the shows I watch heavily I've been watching for years and most of those are cartoons & anime, the only shows I still look forward to that's still putting out new episodes that's not cartoons is NCIS: New Orleans, Dr. Bull, 9-1-1, Supernatural, Lethal Weapon, the new Magnum P.I., and that's it.

I've already changed up my cable plan & got rid of a few stations that I never watched like sports & TWC's/Spectrum's movie channel EpiX, to lighten up my bill a little; most of these channels are just now rerun type programming, and it's only so much of an old show you can watch over & over before it's just have no value to you anymore.

13306155, I watch the same amount but less mindless trash
Posted by sectachrome86, Fri Jan-11-19 01:29 PM
I usually have a few shows going at a time and lately I've been tending to just rewatch a lot of favorites like GoT, Sopranos, Breaking Bad etc.

What I don't do anymore is sit there endlessly channel surfing or watching some garbage just to have something on.

I dont really even save any money because I subscribe to pretty much every service. Which is kind of dumb. But I have no desire to ever go back to cable. Seems to out dated to me now.

13353257, Went with Youtube TV
Posted by go mack, Thu Oct-24-19 02:50 PM
loving it so far, saving about 100 a month I was giving towards cable. Seriously, my cable bill was 225 a month for cable, internet, phone bundle. I kept internet at 75 and youtube is 50 and get pretty much every channel I had before that I used anyways.
13353266, Tell me about live sports ?
Posted by Brew, Thu Oct-24-19 03:20 PM
I'm still eyeing cutting the cord but am waffling so hard lol.
13353272, YTTV is dope for sports
Posted by Oak27, Thu Oct-24-19 03:42 PM
ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FOX, FS1, FS2, ABC, NBC, CBS, NBC Sports, local sports networks (NESN and whatever channel the Celtics play on is called for Boston area), TNT, NBATV, MLB Network.

The pricetag is high at $50 and I wouldn't be surprised if in a year from now there is another price hike, but the key there is to find a buddy or family member who also wants it and you split it. If you open an account all you have to do is add their email as a family member and they have access to it when they log in with their email (rather than a shared log in a la Netflix). I split it with my Uncle so I pay $25/month.

One of my favorite features on YTTV is you can customize your channel guide so you can reorder channels and put your more watched channels at the top, group by category, and remove unwatched channels (Disney kids, Telemundo, Fox News, etc)
13353275, splitting the cost is enticing
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Oct-24-19 03:47 PM
How many users can you have? If I have 2 TV’s with it in my house can I still share with someone in another house or would that knock one of the TV’s off it?

Also.. does it work with firestick?
13353276, 6 accounts, 3 can stream simultaneously
Posted by Oak27, Thu Oct-24-19 03:48 PM
If you have multiple TVs you can log in with the same user and it's no problem, it's basically 6 separate logins/emails.

Not positive on Firestick, I use my XBox when I'm streaming on my TV.
13353285, I think you can use it with a Fire Stick
Posted by Marbles, Thu Oct-24-19 04:19 PM

I think it's a new development but don't quote me on that.

We use our Roku to get YouTube TV. We had Sling at first, then switched.
13353291, fire stick is a go
Posted by mista k5, Thu Oct-24-19 04:32 PM
my brother has youtube tv and was watching it on a fire stick. its his first month but it seemed like he liked it.

i might need to see if he wants to split it but only 3 simultaneous streams might dead that.

13353324, Damn - exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks.

13353288, I’m a huge basketball/football/baseball fan....it’s great for sports
Posted by DJR, Thu Oct-24-19 04:26 PM
It’s just like cable/directv or whatever IMO, but cheaper and easier to cancel.
13353325, Word OK. For me it would be basketball/football so that's perfect.
Posted by Brew, Thu Oct-24-19 09:51 PM
>It’s just like cable/directv or whatever IMO, but cheaper
>and easier to cancel.

I think I'll need a Firestick to go w/Hulu at least on my bedroom TVs but still .. looks to be a choice between YTTV and Hulu.
13353423, Now that it's 1080p, it's better.
Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Fri Oct-25-19 12:09 PM
I signed up last year, and the best resolution they could do was 720p.

Kinda unacceptable.

I fully expect them to add another price tier for 4K like Netflix.
13353531, its device/display dependent. some stuff even gets 1080p 60fps.
Posted by Reeq, Sat Oct-26-19 01:20 AM
if anyone is limited to 720p, they should google around for full hd compatible devices or workarounds to force full hd resolution (you can finagle the display resolution or hardware specs reported to yt in some instances).
13353533, came in to shout out youtube tv.
Posted by Reeq, Sat Oct-26-19 01:30 AM
easily the highest quality and most useful.

like a few people in here...i use it mostly for live events. if people dont feel like paying for that...they can get some free streams off reddit.
13355264, is it normal for youtube tv to be missing episodes of shows?
Posted by mista k5, Fri Nov-08-19 11:56 AM
i signed up on monday and added mr robot to shows i want to record. it has all the episodes of season 4 except for episode 2. why?

i ended up buying the episode on google play because i want to keep watching the show. is this a known issue with youtube tv though?

anyone else on youtube tv, can you check if episode 2 is available to watch for you?
13355267, Yep that episode is missing from tv youtube
Posted by Lurkmode, Fri Nov-08-19 12:04 PM
First time I've seen that happen.
13355269, at first i thought it was a joke by the show
Posted by mista k5, Fri Nov-08-19 12:08 PM
well i thought maybe the first episode was a 2 part episode. then i thought they skipped episode 2 and went straight to 3 as some sort of device for the show.

the title "payment required" didnt help lol i guess it ended up being true for me.

thanks for the confirmation.
13355270, Nope you are not the only one looking for it
Posted by Lurkmode, Fri Nov-08-19 12:21 PM
Reddit has a thread where somone asked about it

https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubetv/comments/dsbmdt/us_missing_mr_robot_4x2_402_payment_required/
13355271, yeah, i always forget to check reddit
Posted by mista k5, Fri Nov-08-19 12:24 PM
did so after your first reply. good to know its not a common thing on other shows at least.

due to the high balance i have of google play rewards i might actually keep youtube tv. my hope is i keep getting enough surveys that i have enough to pay for it without using any real money.
13353262, I had Hulu TV for a month. Shit was awesome.
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Oct-24-19 03:18 PM
Wife asked about getting it again but when I told her it was $48 she balked.

We still watch all our shows thru kodi or Netflix.

I still have more shows than time right now.

Will probably get Hulu TV again for November or December. I have a new tv and haven’t found a reliable antenna for local channels.
13353289, Yes indeed. But I DO watch more movies & "unique" programming.
Posted by FLUIDJ, Thu Oct-24-19 04:27 PM
So I kinda feel like I'm taking better advantage and getting my monies worth out of Netflix & Amazon Prime now...
13353337, cut the cord like 20 years ago. much more time on okp boards haha
Posted by rawsouthpaw, Thu Oct-24-19 10:50 PM
have saved crazy money as a result.threw out my tv for a huge fish tank years back too. tv related content has taken a far backseat to reading. i'll still watch only choice shit via the web like the lakers or: just saw a fellow teacher and homie from my last high school site win rhythm and flow on netflix though haha
13353342, I never watched much to begin with.
Posted by hip bopper, Fri Oct-25-19 04:29 AM
I have a show or two that I follow, but a majority of stuff that I watched on tv was sports. That has dwindled with me over the years. I don’t care if I miss the games these days.

13353484, I watch WAY less TV now. But I think mindless TV watching has just
Posted by soulfunk, Fri Oct-25-19 02:45 PM
been replaced by mindless smartphone usage, whether it's scrolling through IG, random reddit posts, or going down a YouTube rabbit hole.

The only actual live TV I watch now is college football.

13353532, theyre charging you for stuff you can get for free.
Posted by Reeq, Sat Oct-26-19 01:27 AM
and no its not completely legal.

its pirated content on firestick.

the fact theyre selling broadcast access on a site 'powered by shopify' should probably make you think twice lol.
13353551, But did you try it....?
Posted by Tw3nty, Sat Oct-26-19 11:53 AM
13353553, You saying because something is on shopify it's illegal?
Posted by Tw3nty, Sat Oct-26-19 12:12 PM
About how many gigs of movies and music have you downloaded over the years?

Glass houses.
13353557, you said it was legal.
Posted by Reeq, Sat Oct-26-19 01:15 PM
i just pointed out that it wasnt legal.

do with that information what you will.
13353562, It could be, other companies have use loopholes.
Posted by Tw3nty, Sat Oct-26-19 04:44 PM
Also they have a reseller program.
Also they never had to move Domains.
13353565, if it wasn't for it being illegal it would be legal
Posted by navajo joe, Sat Oct-26-19 06:09 PM
so it is legal
13353537, lol

13353538, Whenever someone says "completely legal,"

Posted by Reeq, Sat Oct-26-19 12:49 PM
but we dont pretend its legal.

and we damn sure dont pay $25/mth for it lol.

most people get the fire stick so you *dont* have to pay lol.

13355325, Had Youtube TV....Now Im on Gears Reloaded.
Posted by Ascension, Fri Nov-08-19 03:19 PM
Youtube TV is great like others have said but at $50 its a little too expensive for my taste. I only stream on a couple of tv's and on my computer so i use Gears Reloaded, the best IPTV in the game. Great streaming, never had a major downtime situation and works wonderful with the Firestick.

After VaderStreams went down this summer i was looking for the next best alternative and Gears is it. My monthly costs is $32 on two tv's.
13355326, I cut the cord in 05.
Posted by Kira, Fri Nov-08-19 03:22 PM
I found that my appetite for shows changed dramatically. Back then we lacked apps to keep up with stuff.

Pick a platform, figure out what you content you like, and crowdsource new shows to watch on your favorite streaming services.

Peep the Disney+ ESPN+ Hulu bundle on the internet.

I don't have as much time to watch shows at home so I stream or download yo watch in 10 minute chunks
13355328, I’m all over that ESPN Disney Hulu combo
