*sniffs* what a somber ass trailer.

13300822, I hope they nailed the emotional weight of this one
Posted by JiggysMyDayJob, Fri Dec-07-18 08:33 AM
and when will Paul Rudd not stop being funny to me? He's the perfect actor for Antman, completely nailed it.
13300823, ...so who do I make the check out to??
Posted by tully_blanchard, Fri Dec-07-18 08:42 AM
Dear Lord this is the mood I want for the whole movie

Until..you know...the heroes save the day...but I still want "mood" in the victory (?)

they show her picture right before Spider-Man's when Banner is looking at those screens of the supposedly dead along with Ant-Man.

or are they saying that she's missing and they don't know where she is?

also it appears to be some years later which is also very interesting.

can not wait.

Thanos doesnt seem to have any weakness right now caus he can turn people into dust by imagining it, so i think he will cover the 17 point spread, and will kareem hunt captain marvel, and put up derrick henry thursday night numbers, dont see how the avengers can put up a fight at all

so how does that picture they had posted a few months ago spell out endgame? or was it something else?

13324022, Copped for Thursday and Saturday
Posted by spenzalii, Tue Apr-02-19 09:57 PM
Saturday is at the IMAX at the Air & Space Museum, so it's a true 85 foot 4K screen. Plus I can take pictures next to the SR-71 while I wait.

Thursday was a shot in the dark, as I couldn't figure out my work schedule early enough and the websites were a crapshoot. After standing in the Fandango queue and getting stuck multiple times I managed to get through for a 10:00 show at a local theater. Standard showing, no reserve seating, so it will be like Lord of the Flies out there.

Posted by tomjohn29, Tue Apr-02-19 01:01 PM
and Marvel doesn't let their movies rock out like Avatar did
we will see
13323916, The running time of over 3 hours will be a barrier for that.
Posted by soulfunk, Tue Apr-02-19 01:08 PM
Because they can't run as many showings back to back on screens as if it was just over 2 hours.
13323948, oh damn thats true
Posted by walihorse, Tue Apr-02-19 02:09 PM
I know I'm seeing it at least twice.
13323955, I mean, Avatar was nearly three hours as well
Posted by mrhood75, Tue Apr-02-19 02:32 PM
And that's what this is gunning for.
13323957, Avatar made a lot off 3D ticket sales
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Apr-02-19 02:36 PM
Is this even doing 3D? It's not as omnipresent as it used to be (which is a good thing IMO)
13324007, This will be showing a lot in IMAX
Posted by mrhood75, Tue Apr-02-19 06:53 PM
That will help its numbers.
13324014, Avatar was the first big 3D blockbuster. Many people were going to see it
Posted by soulfunk, Tue Apr-02-19 08:08 PM
repeatedly just because of the 3D novelty, and that won’t be the case at all with Endgame because of IMAX or 3D sales. Avatar also came out in December with little competition, while Endgame drops in the spring leading to summer so it won’t have the long run of taking up most of the screens that Avatar did. Also while Avatar is long, there’s a difference between a 2 hour 40 minute running time and actually going over 3 hours. I remember reading somewhere about studios being really shy of making a blockbuster over 3 hours because of the limitation on the number of showings (I believe I read that about Infinity War and the cuts they made to keep it shorter. IW was 2 hours, 26 minutes, almost the same as Avatar.)

All that being said, yeah this is gonna do crazy numbers regardless.
13324013, Yup..its doing 3D

Just like Infinity War last year.

Gonna wait till the third weekend to check it out on the biggest IMAX in the nation at 68th and Broadway in Manhattan.

But for those of you worried about going to a digital IMAX you'll be fine. Its aspect ratio is for the digital ones.
13324041, I have no interest in this flick

>Gonna wait till the third weekend to check it out on the
>biggest IMAX in the nation at 68th and Broadway in Manhattan.

because I'm not the biggest comic book head, so I shouldn't even be in this thread, but I would imagine tickets for this specific IMAX screen are going to be sold out for months upon months upon months similar to how they were when that second Christopher Nolan Batman flick dropped.

I'm sure you must be thrilled to have the chance to see it at this screen given how hard it must be to snag those tickets.
13328036, Depends. I bought an IMAX matinee for Friday, this past Saturday
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Apr-23-19 04:07 PM

But there were a fair amount of seats left, but most were right up front
13327970, A satisfying conclusion

Like the previous film, this is A LOT.

The character interactions are so good, that it brings up my main complaint from the last one which is a lot of these niggas should've met a lot sooner.

There's something that happens in the last five minutes that made me wanna cheer.

I'll see this again as this was shot entirely in IMAX.

But for right now I need to digest this before the review embargo breaks.

Anyone saying that this is the best one is getting the side-eye.

Posted by nipsey, Thu Apr-25-19 10:16 PM
and I'm NOT mad at it. Excellent flick. Everything that happened was a surprise. I am so glad they did not spoil anything in the marketing. Just about everything you've seen in the commercials/trailers happens in the first 30 minutes. The rest comes a surprise and they were great surprises.
13328655, so much so that (spoilers?)
Posted by Selah, Thu Apr-25-19 11:14 PM
I can't wait to see if someone who isn't into the whole saga will be into it (will they know WHY the callbacks are cool)

one additional thing:

my little ones (6 and 9) said it didn't feel long. that's a credit to the density of it (to me the beginning was a little slow, but once it jumped off - it jumped)

round two tomorrow with the non-hardcore folks
13328656, Slowest part was definitely the beginning
Posted by nipsey, Thu Apr-25-19 11:18 PM

13328665, Somewhat spoilers?!

I felt like the first 2 hours were hella slow, the finale actually seemed kind of rushed. I think they could’ve cut it down to 2 hours and still covered everything.
13328792, i was surprised how they managed to do that
Posted by mista k5, Fri Apr-26-19 02:34 PM
have the trailer seem like it was possibly spanning good chunks of the movie but like you said it was basically just about the first 30 mins.

i definitely enjoyed it. didnt seem long. my body cooperated. pretty much marvel at its best.

i got madder and madder after the movie was done for like 30 mins lol i dont think i was mad when it was over but somehow it hit me. im not really sure what im mad at to be honest.

my main complaint? the lady sitting next to me that for some reason thought she had to call out the name of characters the first time they showed up. even at one point stuttering....oh its...uhm...uh....2 mins later captain marvel.

13328861, very good, not great. (tokpr?)
Posted by Riot, Fri Apr-26-19 07:15 PM
or maybe great, but not the level of excellent that marvel has hit a few times in the past

cosign the comment that the start is kinda slow and the finale is kinda rushed a lil.
light on the humor compared to other marvel flicks.

and a few logic gaps/plotholes that stood out more in the beginning cuz things were moving slower. i also was kinda mad cuz random spoiler guesses i ran across online in the past few weeks were turning out to be true, but then the story started going other places.

no real shockers, except maybe how close the mad titan was to running a back-2-back, like when bosh tipped the rebound and ray allen hit the 3 to cancel the spurs parade

definitely got some nostalgia/fan points for being "the end of an era", that made some moments and the overall feel a little more important than if it had been just a standalone movie.
same way episode 3 got bonus points for the anakin to vader transformation, than it would if u didnt know the backstory/relevance

also walking out after i felt kind of a weight lifted at everything being "over". 10 years, wow. amazing run. and endgame = a great sendoff.
now its gonna be interesting to see how disney uses the fox franchises and new streaming network to spin off all the other storylines.
13328884, Terrible. The first hour & 20 minutes was boring. Ending was bad.

Entertainment value is very low. It picked up got going but it didn’t make up for how dull the movie is. I think it’s lazy to make add so much humor to the movie, bad writing. I hate what they did with Thor but it got laughs. Thanos was not used well in this movie imo. The end just dragged and dragged. Who would read an Avenger comic that started out that slow?
13328887, (spoilery?) That scene did not have great replay value
Posted by nonaime, Sat Apr-27-19 07:26 AM
I mean the first time we got taken through that scene, I really did feel the emotion.

But this time? With those two? (an entry level position and maybe an associate level...yes, I'm trolling) All I was thinking was get on with it already and yes I did have a preference (c) Thanos. When it went down and they did the whole cinematic thing...nope, didn't feel the same. In fact, it felt cheesy this time.

Other than that, I did enjoy it.

Maybe because 1)I'm not a comic book geek (but I do like the genre) and 2) those two don't have individual movies. They're probably my least favorite. (I mean, I was *meh* on Cap too, before his movies)

And the whole "that's nothing like Budapest" thing that they have going on between them seems like an annoying inside joke.

Went to pee twice during the trailers and was able to sit through the entire thing. Saw some people who had to go multiple times and missed big things.

***SPOILER THOUGHTS/QUESTIONS****

-Never heard that many people crying in a superhero movie before. Tony going GOT people. I don't really cry from movies, but I had to fight back a little something during Cap and Peggy's dance.

-Black Widow going was a surprise. I don't think there's anyone outside of Jeremy Renner's agent who wanted her to be the one to die in that scene. I heard the upcoming solo flick she has is going to be a prequel, so that would still work. But I still don't think she's going to stay dead forever. Avengers 5: The Search For Widow?

-I have briefly thought about the time travel implications of how Steve was able to go back in time, stay with Peggy and not completely fuck up the entire timeline. I think it probably makes sense, but if I were to get too into it I'm certain it probably wouldn't hold up (wasn't SHIELD started in the first place because Captain America was believed to be dead?) But that's true of everything with time travel.

-I thought the final battle was kinda . . . meh? I got a kick out of the initial reveal of the Wakandan/Asgardian/Wizard forces coming through the portals, *that* particular come together scene that made chuds mad and various people running with the football, but it felt like a rehash of IW, only the stakes felt lower for some reason.

-The Russo Brothers have a great understanding of comedic timing. Might have laughed hardest at the rock guy from Ragnarok complaining about trolls or Star Lord getting clobbered while he was dancing in the past.

-THE Halloween costume for this year's white male between the ages of 20-45 is going to be Lebowski-Thor.

-Did Gamora get sent back to her own timeline once the snap was undone?

-As a big fan of The Leftovers, I loved the "everyone dealing with their survivor's guilt" stuff. Can see why others didn't like it, though.

-I get that it has happened more recently in the comics, but the MCU version of Cap giving the title to Sam and not Bucky doesn't make sense. This dude was willing to break up the Avengers for Bucky, and he's not the #1 choice? Shit, you could've even have Bucky turn it down and give it to Sam because Bucky's guilty about all of the people he killed as Winter Soldier. Felt like an out of character thing to do.

-Was surprised Vision didn't come back since there's the upcoming Wanda/Vision Disney+ series. I guess they could always have a backup of his consciousness somewhere.

-If it's five years later, how are Peter and his best friend still in high school?

-FYI, the guy standing alone by himself at Tony's funeral was the kid from Iron Man 3 (had to look it up.)

Ross was in the Edward Norton Hulk movie and was Secretary of State in Civil War (he was the one there that was trying to get all of them to sign the accords) and Infinity War.

Everyone who came back from being dusted is the same age as when they died. Time only passed for the survivors. So the kids in school with Peter now (and probably some adults too) were presumably all killed in the dusting along with him. When Peter comes back and sees Tony he says something to the effect of "...I must have fallen asleep because when I woke up Dr. Strange was like 'it's been 5 years we gotta go'...".
13329744, OK, forgot about that

It makes sense. Bucky had his back and protected him from bullies when he was a scrawny punk who couldn't defend himself. That's his boy for life. That doesn't necessarily mean he thinks Bucky would be the best Captain America tho. Sam been on the straight and narrow forever, always had his back on missions, and stood by him no matter what choice he made... even the choice to break up the Avengers to save Bucky.

Both in story as Cap has been around cynical people and seen enough chaos to be bored by his old jingoism schtick and also slightly meta comment on Evans’ readiness to move one from Cap’s angle.

13328948, I've seen all these movies & found this one aite. ****SPOILERS****
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Sun Apr-28-19 06:33 PM
I was expecting a better movie than this for the finale.

Negatives:

I was disappointed that the Hulk never redeemed himself after catching a beatdown in the first one. Sure, we saw Professor Hulk, which was cool, but it would've been cooler if he put hands on Thanos and we got to see him go extra hard... maybe even turn into Worldbreaker or something remotely resembling it.

They kept saying Black Widow's death is irreversible, but Gamora's back, so obviously that's false.

Speaking of which, I've been wanting Hawkeye to die since Age of Ultron... just not a fan of his character, and Black Widow is one of my favorites, so...

I would've liked to see more of Black Panther doing his thing in the battle. There was only the one scene where he ran with the gauntlet.

Positives:

Watching them travel to find Avengers reminded me of the first one. I enjoy that sequence however they execute it.

Cap picking up Thor's hammer was pretty cool. He put in work before Thanos smashed him.

Scarlett Witch giving Thanos a run for his money was interesting.

Captain Marvel coming through the clouds during the battle was dope. They always give her nice entrance.

Valkyrie's horse looked cool during the battle

Iron Man meeting his father, and his father saying "the greater good rarely outweighed my self-interest" set up his death very well.

Stan Lee's appearance was awesome in this one.

?:
Cap returning on the bench was a stretch. At first I wondered why he didn't come back to the launching point. Ok, so he lives a life. But he comes back old, so I wondered how he aged, because he still took the serum according to the shot of him dancing with Peggy. So it's not the serum that kept him from aging, but the fact that he was frozen in ice? Aite, I guess. So he didn't come back to the launching spot because he kept tabs on time for 80 years and just drove over to that spot on the day they launched him? Ok I guess.

Overall: The movie leading up to the action and "payoff" was better than the payoff itself for me. I think Marvel always does a great job with the non-action parts of the movie, the drama, the story line, etc, but for this to be the big finale, the grand action sequence just didn't bring it. Can't put my finger on it yet, but this one just seemed almost lazy and uninspired, like even Marvel was just tired of these joints.
13329023, That bench shit was soo stupid
Posted by walihorse, Mon Apr-29-19 07:43 AM
So did he relive the attack on NY and Ultron? Did he take over the Frozen caps place? Did he teleport back into that timeline?

I was understanding that it would have been a different timeline, so him going back and staying with Peggy wouldn't have altered the timeline we were watching. I see why it was chosen, but I didn't like it.

I took it that Gamora didn't come back. That was her in the past and came along with Nebula into the future. When Starlord saw her and went to her and touched her and she punched him then she asked Nebula "that's him?" I took that as in her mind she haven't met him yet and Nebula was gave her a heads up.
13329329, This is the only thing that truly upset me about the movie

I remember the night in the theater I watched Avengers and when Loki started saying "you beast, I am a GO...." and the theater erupted into sweet childish glee. I challenge someone to identify a more SATISFYING part of the movie than that.

Thanos made Hulk a straight BITCH in IW. He became a straight nerd afterwards. I needed to see him redeem himself, Tony could have still snapped, but Hulk deserved that full level rage 'demption.

Acknowledging the bullshit time travel shit they ran on us, I'd have been emotionally overrode if Hulk had Hulked out. Seeing TWO grand battles involving the mad Titan and no Hulk, were just....off.

Few things I noticed:

- So Vision is like DEAD DEAD? To be fair, he got double-tapped. You can't really come back from.

- I got excited about the elevator scene. I was waiting for Cap to say, "Before we get started, does anybody want to get out?"

- Cap wielding Mjolnir was a great call back to Age of Ultron

- Logically, killing Black Widow made the most sense. She didn't have a family and a life waiting for her back home.

- Thor v. noobmaster69

- When Dr. Strange portaled in with the squad behind him, I started chanting, "YIBAMBE!" myself!

- Where the fuck Loki go???
13329095, Hulk's snap only undid people killed by the snap IIRC.

Gamora.

They time-traveled to a point before she died, so there she was.

In Infinity War they made a big point of saying it's possible that they could separate Vision from the mind stone and still have most of Vision left, with the right technology, and also made it a point that Shuri was smart enough to do it. When she was working on it in the battle towards the end it looked like she saved the work she had before evacuating.

Endgame confirmed that she got dusted, but I think that in Phase 4 there's a good chance that they show her having completed the work to bring a form of Vision back...

Two things:

If you really really really want to see a movie, see it at least twice in two different kinds of theaters.

My first viewing was in 3D in opening night at Citiplex in Newark. Tonight was IMAX at Jersey Gardens

I’ve concluded that the first viewing should be in a hood theater because they’re you’ll be thoroughly entertained by all of the hilarious side commentary by the patrons, lol

The second viewing is where you start to catch things you may have missed the first time. This has to be in a gentrified or white theater. The patrons tonight were so dead omg...

I’m seeing it again on May 4 in IMAX 3D, strictly because I got the extra money to spend and I want to have an even better viewing experience. Plus, I’ll probably digest the movie even further since it’s 3 hours long and my attention still shifted a bit during the movie.

I'll probably wait until I can see it in Dolby cinema again - but honestly my television (OLED) looks better than the theater now - except when scenes are very very bright like the Jango Fett Clone Factory in those prequels.

Not dissing - it's just true.

If they do 15/70 (or any film version of) IMAX prints I'd definitely be all in. San Diego doesn't have IMAX digital laser so it's just a glorified 4k projector.

13329989, It was dope! Better than RealD 3D

I copped a great seat, too. That's the only way i think anyone should go... if you have to sit way in the back, in the front, or on the sides, it's not worth it. Mine was probably two rows behind the center of the rows.

Looking forward to seeing it in IMAX 3D this weekend!

But you know what REALLY blows my mind?? A friend just told me that he was gonna see it in 4D next week.

*cue Tim Taylor sound effect*

I was like - WHAT?! I never knew that even existed!!! Apparently, Regal Cinemas have 4D as well as another cool thingy called Screen X, where there's three screens instead of one. One in front and the other two on the right and left.

Shiiiieeetttt, I'm def gonna cop a ticket to see it in 4D, at least. Thing's $30 though, so I have to wait until payday again, lol

Personally I was all gun ho about this going to be a great movie, and then that whole battle scene and finding out Dr. Strange knew it would happen was one thing I was thinking about since the last one.

Iron Man was always a favorite of mines since I use to collect the comic book, they really pissed me off with how they wrote this ending, but I knew at least one person wasn't going to live but two damn (also I was hoping for Black Widow to die, I've never cared for her character even in the comics, she should've died during the first Avengers movie if you ask me, hand to hand combat can't save your ass from pieces of falling buildings).

Anyway I was pissed at the ending, maybe cause back of my head I'm still so use to the old comic storylines even when I know it's nowhere near the same plot; I will say I do remember Disney posting up a pictures saying that now they bought up all the Marvel Universe franchises from other studios (Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Blade, Venom, etc.) they will set off "Marvel Phase Four" which ends the current plots and move forward to a new conflicts and introduce even more characters & teams that might be on a series first then spill over into the big screen but right now they trying to get back to restarting the ones they ended with netflix.

So get ready for the next big plot in a few years.....Secret Wars, which I don't know why they going backwards in that direction cause Secret Wars plot was done 8 years before Infinity Gauntlet/Infinity Wars/Infinity Crusade/Infinity Abyss story lines, but most of the info isn't definite and could change depending on how good each series on Disney Plus streaming service goes.

I'm still mad people didn't like the Inhumans tv show cause to me it was good and their history has a lot to do with some key characters in the future; that New Mutants show kind of sucks those, I hope they don't use those stories or actors for the upcoming mergers.

13330219, I never meet anyone who saw Inhumans lol

I was thinking Avatar was re-released but guess it was only IMAX 3D. I wouldn't be surprised if they release again before 2 comes out.
