13293500, “That esclated quickly” (c) - bomb detonated at George Soros house Posted by MEAT, Tue Oct-23-18 12:11 PM
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/22/nyregion/george-soros-explosive-device.html
So we’ve gone from whatever trajectory we were on to national polcies that promote grand conspiracy theory that a single rich Jewish person is conspiring against America
We’ve had multiple race marches (Charlottesville, Portland)
Violating asylum laws to arrest and detain families, separating them from their children and then locking them in literal cages
Cages where there’s sexual abuse and significant health matters
Then separating some of these kids permanently and putting them up for adoption.
Abandoned entire demographics and regions struck by natural disasters because ... skin color?
All while becoming more lax with our war approach and dramatically rising the civilian death toll
.... all to ask ... where does this end? Because, this smells a lot like the rolling ball to ethnic cleansing, politely at first ... but then if this is where we are in less than two years ... the next two are gonna be tuff

and the bombing
that video alleging Soros was paying migrants in the caravan is less than a week old
...now a bomb delivered to his house...
There needs to be consequences for this B$.

13293510, But don't you dare make Ted Cruz uncomfortable during dinner Posted by Marauder21, Tue Oct-23-18 12:43 PM
And I don't know where this ends, except in a violent place.
The bet that there were enough reasonable, sane conservatives in the GOP to check their worst impulses was never a good one. The subtext of the last four decades is now becoming explicit text. What worries me most is that there is still going to be a Republican party after Trump. There will still be candidates, staffers, and a whole infrastructure that needs to be supported. Who are those people going to be? Historically, this has been people who come up through organizations like Young Americans for Freedom, College Republicans, interns from the Heritage Foundation, etc.
Think about the kind of young person that in 2018 is drawn to the Republican party. This isn't Alex P Keaton and Carlton Banks. They're going to be Proud Boys/adjacent types. And they'll be treated with every bit of legitimacy as both sides journalism demands. Right now we've "just" got Congressmen bleating out white nationalist talking points; in 15 years we'll have our first open Pizzagater in Congress, representing some solid red district where they faced no real opposition.
Short of completely obliterating this party and the conservative movement, I don't see any kind of end to this.

13293519, I think you missed the point of that remark Posted by bentagain, Tue Oct-23-18 12:57 PM
Getting screamed on at dinner >>> a bomb delivered to your house.

13293520, Obviously Posted by Marauder21, Tue Oct-23-18 12:58 PM
And yet we're going to hear about that for a lot longer than we'll hear about this.

13293521, oh, I thought you were extremely anti-Bill Maher Posted by bentagain, Tue Oct-23-18 01:04 PM
that's a remark that he's made and a sentiment that he's repeatedly expressed
...like almost verbatim...

13293524, Bill Maher is a trash person and neither him nor Ted Cruz nor Matt Gaetz Posted by MEAT, Tue Oct-23-18 01:09 PM
Are in existential danger from the items I mentioned.

13293532, I don't like Maher Posted by Marauder21, Tue Oct-23-18 01:17 PM
And the same civility brigade that is very concerned about that time Sarah Huckabee Sanders got her food comped and told to leave at a restaurant will be less concerned with someone whose name has been used exclusively as a right wing anti-Semitic boogeyman gets a bomb mailed to them.
That was my point. Guns and bombs from right wingers don't merit the same level of outrage as someone calling Ted Cruz "lil headass" or whatever at a restaurant.
The civility argument goes one way, and it's worth wondering why nobody even expects it from the other side.

And it scared the shit out of me.
Like, who is political at that age? Political enough to go buy a hat...especially a hat like that.
There are kids who look up to this guy.

13293534, That is frightening Posted by Marauder21, Tue Oct-23-18 01:18 PM
Because WHAT would draw a 15 year old to this? I doubt he gives a shit about tax cuts or leaving the Paris climate deal.
It's just about the cruelty.

13293537, or being edgy Posted by Selah, Tue Oct-23-18 01:25 PM
or being ironic

A lot of these young Connors are just trying to be assholes. I'd even venture to say most at that age.
Fuck em still, though.

If I ever have kids I don't think I'll ever hit them, but them wearing a MAGA hat (or some equivalent clothing/action) would be the closest I could come, I'd think.

13293558, Which makes sense for teens Posted by Marauder21, Tue Oct-23-18 01:53 PM
Problem is there's an entire major party with the exact same mentality.
