13293078, What groups do you like but would not see them in concert?
Posted by mista k5, Fri Oct-19-18 05:29 PM
obviously if theyre dead it doesnt count.

i was listening to devin the dude and was thinking i really love his vibe and it would be cool to see him in concert. the thing is i dont smoke, so im thinking it would be weird. granted theres smoking at basically every concert but i would just imagine devin shows go all out and i would feel like a poser lol

ive avoided cypress and snoop for the same reason but i think i will go see either if i get the chance now.

also, watching anderson paak on hot ones got me wondering about the mosh pits at his shows. is it really like that? i wouldnt be down for mosh pits but i would definitely like to see him live.

i feel like i might had made this post before, or someone else might have

dont ban me!

not smoking is whatever even at the shows for chronic heads... good music is good music nobody is checking you for not smoking.. and as for mosh pits that used to be my scene as a young man not anymore though I end up at plenty of shows where they happen.. I just post up at the back or at least out of the fray it's not hard to do.

as for answering your actual question about who I wouldn't see... I don't know that's tough... probably only somebody who's whole steez was recording and had a rep as being terrible live.. you know mad drunk or something... they're out there can't think of who right now... but mostly I just weigh how much I want to see an act versus the budget available.
13293226, there are definitely some shows that are good for watching from the back
Posted by mista k5, Mon Oct-22-18 10:08 AM
some shows are all about the energy though

i would probably go to their shows if they did come. i would hesitate a bit though.

if its an act that i really like their music and their known to have a bad live show i would probably still go to support if the price was reasonable. probably only once. now if they are known for not showing up then nah.
13293097, Check out Cypress in concert, good live show
Posted by las raises, Fri Oct-19-18 11:35 PM
I've seen Snoop as well he was cool

Anderson is great love tons of energy
13293229, im glad cypress is still out there
Posted by mista k5, Mon Oct-22-18 10:09 AM
i definitely want to see them at some point
13293109, I walked out a Kendrick Concert
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Sat Oct-20-18 08:06 AM
He was opening for Dave Chappelle so it wasn't even a super hype for him crowd. Did have all the stage stuff you see in some of his performanes. Just him and a band. It was a bit boring.

Love dude though.

13293230, when was this?
Posted by mista k5, Mon Oct-22-18 10:10 AM
i definitely would go see kendrick
13293112, Singers that ain't the same as before. Like D'Angelo...
Posted by flipnile, Sat Oct-20-18 10:54 AM
...or Lauryn Hill. I've been to a lot of shows where the singer sounded BETTER live than on the record. I'd be really disappointed hearing D mumble through his classics, for example.

Also, no comeback tour bands for me.
13293113, YOOO, The Second Coming (Black Messiah) tour shows were THE BEST
Posted by cbk, Sat Oct-20-18 11:35 AM
concerts I’ve ever been too!!!

D actually enunciates his lyrics more clearly live. I now know what he’s singing on Sugah Daddy and B2TF since going to his shows. Haha

The band is always top notch. Dude only brings the best of the best on the road. Pino??? Sharkey??? Jesse?!??

And the songs take on new meanings live. I remember thinking “oh that’s a nice cool, smooth song...perfect for doing chores” when I first heard Betray My Heart. But that shit live???... I was crying hard and nodding my head, two stepping, embarrassing the shit outta myself.

So yeah, I recommend seeing D live 😹

13293342, Oh, word? I'm walking it back on D then. Was going off his last release...
Posted by flipnile, Mon Oct-22-18 03:59 PM
...which I wasn't feeling. If he's blowing during his concerts (as opposed to mumbling) then I'd want to hear it. Voodoo is one of my favorite albums during that time period.
13293144, Nah man, I saw D on the Black Messiah tour. It was great.
Posted by KiloMcG, Sat Oct-20-18 10:09 PM
13293231, i used to think like that
Posted by mista k5, Mon Oct-22-18 10:12 AM
unfortunately most rap shows here are older acts. the shows have been great when i go though. as long as they have reasonable prices i would go to shows so i could at least say ive seen them once.

im sure some shows wont be great so the price would be relative to how much i liked them.
13293343, More with singers than rap, and since I'm a jazz head, everyone's old...
Posted by flipnile, Mon Oct-22-18 04:03 PM
Saw a ton of soul and R&B groups growing up, and one thing I always disliked was seeing the band when they don't sound anything like the songs on their records. People age, pass away, voices go, the energy isn't the same, etc. So I'm a bit leery about acts that have been off the radar for a while, since it's much more about the music than the experience for me.

Rappers don't have the same problem of losing their singing voice.
13293136, Went to 3 Anderson Paak shows, never seen a moshpit
Posted by soken, Sat Oct-20-18 05:37 PM
13293232, maybe it depends on the city or venue
Posted by mista k5, Mon Oct-22-18 10:14 AM
or maybe hot ones dude took a small example and made it out to be common
13293164, Pretty much everyone from ATL not in the Dungeon Family or Earth Gang.

13293233, why though?
Posted by mista k5, Mon Oct-22-18 10:15 AM
there might be some newer acts i would skip out on or at minimum stay in the back. if i know the crowd is gonna be real young i might wanna chill.
13293338, Metallica
Posted by Cornbread, Mon Oct-22-18 03:34 PM
and most metal groups.

I love the music but their crowd...whew.
13293411, their crowd is cool as shit...seen them twice..
Posted by tully_blanchard, Tue Oct-23-18 09:31 AM
they aint like some wild GG Allin crowd...they WILL get you high with them.

Now their performance...ehh...James REALLY does not sound good live. Saw them get mopped by Godsmack the last time I saw them

Love their music, but I hear Syd is a bit tough to listen to live. Even their tiny desk concert I was like ehhhhhhh.

I'm good with listening to the studio magic versions.

They were here a few weeks ago, and while they will always be one of my faves, I took a hard pass.

Even in their heyday, it was a hard show to sit through. I saw them several times, in the late 90's, early 2000's and it was always the same... 50 dudes on stage, in Carharrt and durags, high as fuck. Every time Meth, Rae or Ghost touches the mic, the crowd goes apeshit, and you can't hear what they're rapping. A lot of walking back and forth, call and response, stage diving, water bottle shaking...etc. but very little music.

I definitely don't want to see that now, from a group of middle-aged dudes...and I am one.
13293419, lol
Posted by mista k5, Tue Oct-23-18 09:58 AM
i never looked at them as a good concert group. i gotta say i would see them once just so i could say that i have.
13293420, i did this. it was worth it. hella fun.
Posted by KiloMcG, Tue Oct-23-18 09:59 AM
>i gotta say i would see them once just so i could say that i have.

13293433, opening for Rage was probably the best time I saw them

I gotta think that promoters weren't going for the nonsense on that tour. They came out on time, clear voiced, the entire line-up, and without all the hangers on.

I think that made the next time I saw them...late, incomplete roster, muffled sound...etc., that much more frustrating, since I knew how great it could be.
