13279493, Insecure is back
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Aug-13-18 06:59 AM
First ep last night.

Why doesn’t Issa crash at her best friends spot?
13279494, This won't end well for Molly
Posted by Amritsar, Mon Aug-13-18 07:30 AM
the way Dro checked her about his wife? That open marriage shit is soo fuckin messy. Not even necessarily for the married couple lol

Issa was right - WPS.

I love that I can relate to a small part of each character in this show.

13279500, The preview for the season when her boss said “it’s not a racist hand...
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Aug-13-18 08:32 AM
because it’s MY hand”

That’s how they do for real too.

13279531, man, when the boss cussed her out...
Posted by PROMO, Mon Aug-13-18 10:53 AM
then she went in the hall and was just trying to gather herself...i thought she was gonna go back in there and tell the boss to kick rocks.

but, it's issa. wamp wamp.
13279497, that lyft shit was real af
Posted by jdub1313, Mon Aug-13-18 08:02 AM
not so much the fight in the back seat, but she outta options and living rent free with ol dude. as slow money as that driving shit is, it's still money, lol.
13279502, We need a flashback of Issa and Daniel back in the day
Posted by Melanism, Mon Aug-13-18 08:51 AM
Because I don't see what Daniel sees in Issa at this point. Like the initial hookups has a Road Not Take aura about them but he's seen too much now.
13279537, He prolly been wanting her since grade school
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Aug-13-18 11:14 AM
Reminds me of girls back home. Used to have a crush on a girl for 10 years the. Finally get a chance and realize she is..

just a girl.

13279689, yeah, that's def it

Posted by dba_BAD, Mon Aug-13-18 10:28 PM

still have a lot of love for the pov of the show and the art is on point, but i dont know if i care all that much abt the characters anymore tbh
13279686, Nah.. that’s Queen Sugar

13279693, Given that Toxic Masculinity will be a focus this season, I kept
Posted by Teknontheou, Tue Aug-14-18 09:03 AM
bracing for the men to kirk out at various points and get violent with the women. Especially when Molly demanded her key back from Dro. But also when big bol lit up in the Lyft.
13279703, can't lie....I rolled my eyes a little when they announced that.
Posted by rorschach, Tue Aug-14-18 09:49 AM
primarily because the main character was kinda toxic.

I get that the guy's perspective will never be the focus of this show.....this is just an observation I made based off the first two seasons.

13279813, *rolls eyes*
Posted by soulpsychodelicyde, Tue Aug-14-18 06:28 PM
Toxic masculinity does not necessarily mean woman beater in the same way that racist doesn't mean white sheets. I'd actually be disappointed if they did that.
13279695, Why is she so broke? Wasn't she supporting herself AND Lawrence...
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue Aug-14-18 09:10 AM
for years when he was unemployed?
13279698, I might be wrong but I think Lawrence was living off his savings
Posted by Teknontheou, Tue Aug-14-18 09:32 AM
while he was unemployed, so he was contributing to the expenses.
13280887, RE: Why is she so broke? Wasn't she supporting herself AND Lawrence...
Posted by gumz, Mon Aug-20-18 12:41 PM
maybe that's why lol
13279699, She catching L's on all fronts
Posted by Tw3nty, Tue Aug-14-18 09:33 AM
I think Molly's story is more relate-able as far as the balance of L's taken.
Molly's personal life is fucked but her professional life is decent.
Literally everything Issa does ends up being an L.
13279707, i think thats where this show parallels with awkward black girl
Posted by GROOVEPHI, Tue Aug-14-18 10:36 AM
issa's character on ABM was similar to Issa on insecure.
she worked a shitty job
had dating problems
she was mad awkward
broke as fuck
13279702, Dro is manipulative as fuck. Easily the biggest creep on the show.
Posted by WarriorPoet415, Tue Aug-14-18 09:48 AM
Dude lightweight gaslighted Molly, talking about "well tell me what you want?"

RIGHT AFTER

Molly had bossed up and told him precisely what she wanted. Friends who don't fuck or acquaintances who do, no overnights, and gimme my key nigga.

Then calling her up to follow up on her work status and to go out for drinks. I'm watching this like damn, dude smooth ran that Molly stop sign and kept going, and she ain't do shit about it.

I hate to see where this is going for her.

13279706, that might be less effective

I dont see it ending well when the wife finds out it's more than sex (or maybe Molly will skip out before getting serious with a married man), but I dont think he's manipulating Molly
13280785, Shout out to DJ R-Tistic for his on-screen appearance
Posted by mrhood75, Mon Aug-20-18 12:37 AM
Dope episode. They always do "club" episodes well. That producer stuff was real as shit.

Keli was also hilarious in her brief appearance. "Radio Shack ain't even a store anymore."
13280786, Lol I was at a friends house like "oh shit I know that guy!"

Between revealing how completely tone-deaf that whole office is and the property management offer, WGY's days on this show have to be numbered. If so, shout out to the actress playing her boss for absolutely crushing the liberal white boomer who absolutely refuses to believe she could be on the wrong side of anything because her intentions are pure.

"But it's MY hand!"

I hope more shows start to reveal how liberals can be prejudiced/biased/racist. It's not just extremists like the Klan who be hurting Black and other ethnic groups.

Their genuine friendship, and seeing that she actually cares about his music and career is a huge thing that showed in this episode.

The new version of the beat still had your damn strings. Has he ever produced a beat that someone's used on a real song, or is he basically a Soundcloud producer? Because if it's the latter, this was a stupid hill to die on.
13282487, Daniel's insecure (*looks at camera*) as fuck this season.
Posted by Mynoriti, Mon Aug-27-18 01:12 PM
When Issa questioned him on it, along with letting him know she's starting to get her shit together and will be moving out soon, he dropped that "when have you ever done anything?". "I always gotta save you" to try to get the upper hand back.
13282554, i think how it came across...was one way

13282609, You're not wrong but he dropped it on her right then to be a petty bitch
Posted by Mynoriti, Tue Aug-28-18 12:51 PM
Daniel has come off for two seasons as this fairly confident dude who has his shit together. now we're getting a closer look at him. Dude looked like a desperate little boy last episode through the whole Fais Do Do / Spider thing, and in a role reversal Issa had to rescue him.

He doesn't like being in this position, or feeling like Issa is looking through him, so when she tried to drop advice, he immediately went for the jugular to remind her her life is dogshit, as to remind her of her place

He was also feeling salty because she said she's moving out. Thing is, I think they both pretty much like the Daniel as the savior dynamic, so the more that crumbles, the more they're doomed

Right the whole time I'm thinking just play along and do what you need to do to get on THEN do shit the way you want.

also I was cringing when she would roll up and make the blackity black jokes in a meeting when everyone else was being formal. Seems common sense would tell you to wait for other folks to be so casual before you try to go there.

I like the theme of working at the black office versus the white office, I did find that there was a visual disconnect between how freaking nice the black office versus how they were describing the jankiness of how things worked in the office. You got that pretty ass office but you ain't go no scanners for signing documents?

I am petty but I always trip watching tv shows with office settings and it is clear that no one writing the show has ever worked in an office.

Like yeah if you early 20s I might see you sneaking into someone's pool like that, but you 30+!?!?

I know it's not that type of show but that whole scene had me on edge because I was like, oh someone about to get shot.

I think if you have a pool you almost have to have a skinny dip policy.

Twice a year you should expect to see someone you don’t know in your pool.

I was pretty surprised that it was legit her childhood home.
13283956, I was wondering if I missed episodes about her parents.
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue Sep-04-18 06:03 PM
It occurred to me during that ep that we don't know anything about her parents.

I get no support...chick ain't young.

13284357, I get the point though...we know more about Molly's fam than Issa's
Posted by auragin_boi, Thu Sep-06-18 08:56 AM
I barely even realized her brother was her brother.

It's like she purposely keeps her family out of the show (maybe it's too close to home personally). But they haven't given Issa any sort of homegrown depth.

Which is a bit strange considering we got all Molly's family's tea.

I guess this is the season we learn a lil more about Issa. Her and her brother need a 'come to Jesus' moment though because they are really not good to each other.

She said something dumb like: "Oh! I didn't think we was talking about shit like that."

Or something very similar. Why would he not be scared if that was her first reaction? She did that before saying that she felt the same which, to him, could have come off as her saying it just because he said it; not necessarily that she meant it.

13287959, Hell yeah the show needed him
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Sep-24-18 02:15 PM

Not sure why folks lied about not missing him. Is it because the show is written by a woman so they don’t want to NEED a man? lol

Not a serious question but I wonder...
13288061, It's not lying
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Sep-25-18 09:07 AM
I wasn't sure what they could even do with him after Issa. It's her show, and if they're really done with each other, there's no reason he needs to be on the show. Also, I'm just not interested in seeing him and Issa get back together and break up and get back together for the whole series.

But if they use him to explore the things they can't with other characters? That's good.

Also, didn't realize how much I liked his friend as a character.

Posted by double negative, Mon Oct-01-18 12:15 PM
underwhelming season finale

seems aimless now

I still love seeing us on screen but its getting into Hype Williams 'Belly' territory where it looks really good but the content is thin
13289407, the point of the show (or this season) is growth
Posted by atruhead, Mon Oct-01-18 07:23 PM
Issa cheated on Lawrence because she was bored and immature
Issa then stopped herself from fucking Daniel again, met a new guy, got her feelings hurt and communicated it without allowing the cycle to continue
13289440, RE: what even is the point of this show now?
Posted by upUPNorth, Tue Oct-02-18 08:10 AM
I don't see how it's aimless, though I can see how it didn't quite feel like a finale. But it sets up some obvious threads for next season, her throwing her block party with the help/friendship of Lawrence's possibly serious girlfriend? When will she find out? Is Molly going to boss out at her job or start trying to be likable? Is she giving Asian dude a chance? And where will Nathan fit in all of it. I thought he conveyed the emotions in that final scene quite well and am interested in where they go with him if they do.
13289442, What's the point of any show?
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Oct-02-18 08:34 AM
You're either invested in the characters and want to see what they're doing or you're not.
13289501, it's a "day in the life" type of show...point is just to watch them
Posted by gumz, Tue Oct-02-18 11:24 AM

It's entertaining and leaves you wanting more with only 4 hours a season.

If this were an hour long 12 episode show, it might get tedious.
