The problem is that he was so self-important and unwilling to question his own assumptions and gut reactions that he just went ahead and attacked another person's motives in public and made a fool of himself when a simple google search would have set him straight.

This kind of self-defeating certainty infects much of the thought in the self-appointed "left."
