13246553, OKPFitness, What's your Push Up game looking like?
Posted by Case_One, Thu Mar-29-18 09:00 PM
I'm working on 200 Push Ups every other day (morn or night) along wiht regular workouts. I'm trying to work my way up to 100 straight for Round one and then 50 + 50 for Round 2. Eventually, I want to hit 100 straight for both rounds.

Round 1 (1 min rest in between)
70 reps
20
10

Rest for 5 to 7 min

Round 2 (1 min rest in between)
30 reps
20
20
20
10

Your chest doesn't need to touch the ground.

>Your chest doesn't need to touch the ground.

Debatable. You might not be doing real push ups.

Or at the very least, your chest needs to come within like an inch of the ground
13246885, I'm sure, been doing them since my ARMY career
Posted by Case_One, Fri Mar-30-18 10:46 PM
I can guarantee that I'm doing them 100 % correctly. But you can come check to make sure... LOL

I love this place.. TOKPR

I don't remember the last time I really did push ups regularly but I think I can still bang out a decent amt...

I might try throwin em in the rotation...
13246646, last time i tried to bang out a max set i hit 67 and i got bored
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Fri Mar-30-18 09:54 AM
if you can do that many then you need to introduce some difficulty to your sets. otherwise youre really just wasting time to show off (no hate, i do that part well lol)

lately i've been building towards being able to do a set of handstand pushups

13246916, Yeah, you know what had happened is my arms are too long
Posted by DJR, Sat Mar-31-18 10:06 AM
Otherwise I’d bang out 200, no problem.
13246939, Bro.. Long arms are a serious issue. I'm 6'2" with LONG Arms

I have to get my suit jacket sleeves tailored. And Push Up are a pain. I use to struggle when I first joined the Army. I had to find the rhythm and hand placement that worked for me and stilled allowed me to do them correctly.

Used to be effortless for me because of my training....now looking dead in the face at 50....need to restart.

13246855, what's a good way to start?
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Fri Mar-30-18 07:31 PM
One of my goals this year is to get a stronger core, so I want to start a good regimen to do so. Just to get stronger.
13246891, J Stew may be able to help school you or just some YouTube vids
Posted by Case_One, Fri Mar-30-18 10:57 PM
to help with the CORE question. As for Push Ups I just say start with 5 - 10 about 5 times a day - randomly. You will eventually be able to increase in number.

13246892, btw I wasn't hating on you up there, I know you're ex-military
Posted by J_Stew, Fri Mar-30-18 11:04 PM
Chest doesn't have to touch but it should come close via upper arms breaking parallel, which I'm sure you're doing. Keep it up.
13246920, Oh you was good fam. I was responding to Eric B Is Prez

I respect your gym game for real. That's why I was telling Garhart Poppwell to hit you up. I consider you the resident fitness expert for sure.

13246945, For me, I got up to 3 sets of 20 modified pushups over the span
Posted by Teknontheou, Sat Mar-31-18 03:10 PM
Of about 2 months (3 days a week). Then I transitioned to full pushups and I think it took me another 2 months or so to be able to do 20.
13246953, I can do more than 20 now, but I can still use this though
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Sat Mar-31-18 06:53 PM
the regimen and structure is what I needed assistance with, and your post was a good one for that. It's hard because my job leaves me not much time in the middle part of the day, which is when I prefer to be active, but with this I can manage it in the morning and evening with no problems.
13246895, prob 20ish
Posted by sndesai1, Sat Mar-31-18 12:18 AM
a couple years ago i did that 100 push up program and got up to 55 or so but i fell off hard since then
13246946, Just did 40
Posted by DJR, Sat Mar-31-18 04:34 PM
I started doing them about a month ago for the first time since probably last summer. I’ve been doing 100 total, 3 times a week. When I started back up, I was getting 20-25 in a row for the first set.

Today I went 40, 20, 15, 15, 10 to get to 100 total. Did burpees yesterday, so I had a bit of soreness while working out today. I’ll try again next week when 100% fresh, hopefully I can hit 50 in a row.
13246981, I strongly detest burpees. But if i could do 50 in a row.. WOW

My body is tripping

13249064, I'm 46, I'm still strong AF but I can only lift 2 x week
Posted by J_Stew, Mon Apr-09-18 12:59 AM
I hit each body part/movement archetype(push, pull, hinge, squat) once per week, and do a decent amount of walking (NYC is great for this, I take one train to work and walk a good bit instead of taking 2 trains that would get me to the doorstep) and yin yoga and foam rolling at least 4-5x per week before bed.

It's just biology, your telomeres get shorter and you can't recover like you used to. The good news is you can still be a bad ass, especially compared to a young sedentary dude.

Still 6'2" and a relatively lean 230-235. I'm not doing KB swings with 2 106 pound kettlebells in one hand anymore, but then again who the hell is at any age.
13249090, you have know idea how much this post depressed me.
Posted by ThaTruth, Mon Apr-09-18 08:52 AM
13249102, lol
Posted by GROOVEPHI, Mon Apr-09-18 09:17 AM
13249273, Dude, I have to get a foam roller ASAP.
Posted by Case_One, Mon Apr-09-18 01:00 PM
My boy told me last year, "Case, You need to start using a foam roller to save your life serious pain and injury. We isn't young bucks anymore."

My joints are starting to stay tender longer than usual. Being 44 is no joke. I have to modify my routines to incorporate more stretching exercises. I may have to invest in some yoga or something similar.

Now I know. I confess, that I'm lazy on the cardio, not because it's hard, but because I'm good at it. I can run 5 miles easy and still not be dog tired. I have a runner's body and have always been able to do great on runs. When I was in the Army I could do 2 miles in 10 minutes on my PT test. And I'm still pretty much Under 12 to 13 minutes on a 2 mile run without any real effort. But I need to start the cardio upon the regular because I know that it's going to save my life.
