during Fresh Fest early-mid 1980s I was in middle school. Fresh Fest brought the largest, best HipHop show to Raleigh, NC. Hype was in the air. Artists were everywhere. Russell Simmons, apparently, was in holier than though form. Some visitors at Shaw University were not having this assholeishness. They shot him (during a chain snatch). Run-DMC almost didn't perform. Fresh Fest was almost fkd. But, Russell never came back to Raleigh again.
