Posted by Trinity444, Tue Oct-10-17 10:46 AM
well. how did you celebrate?
13201177, took the dogs for a long walk and had a cranberry stuffed turkey breast
Posted by PG, Tue Oct-10-17 10:56 AM
for dinner... real chill... no family over... kids were with their mom... we ate pumpkin pie all weekend... oh and last night Shimmy made chocolate muffins...

personally I feel like turkey is punishment food but Shimmy loves it... I prefer roast beef and yorkshire puddings.
13201197, pumpkin pie? DTS

13201162, do canadians have the whole "indian"/pilgrim narrative associated
Posted by KiloMcG, Tue Oct-10-17 10:48 AM
with thanksgiving too?
13201181, traditionally yeah
Posted by PG, Tue Oct-10-17 11:01 AM
personally I'm just thankful they haven't killed us in revenge for everything done to them and the fact that I bought a townhouse on unceded territory (pretty much everything on the west coast)...
13201165, EEEK! y'all do it too early.
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Oct-10-17 10:50 AM
lol

the idea of Thanksgiving sends shivers down my spine.

ugh.

cold.

cold weather is deplorable.
13201172, Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday.
Posted by KiloMcG, Tue Oct-10-17 10:52 AM
Food, football and bourbon. It has all the good things about Christmas without the damn gifts.

and it adds football.
13201202, i will love it when i'm in a different climate.
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Oct-10-17 11:34 AM
b/c i do adore T-gives. you nailed it - all the trappings of Xmas w/o any of the drama (gifts, Jesus, blah).

but it's also the last stop b4 the wintry hell really sets in and doesn't let up until like May.

focus on the football. focus on the football.

except i'm not doing the NFL this year.

:-(

13201207, yeah man, everyone seems more relaxed at T'giving compared to
Posted by KiloMcG, Tue Oct-10-17 11:36 AM
Christmas. for some reason that just gets people all stressed out.

and here in VA you never know what winter is gonna be like. like right now, mid october, it's hot, humid and muggy af. i'm ready for that humidity to break. but being in Chicago i can definitely see how and why you hate winter/cold months.
13201224, we do winter in Southport, NC.
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Oct-10-17 11:57 AM
it's usually in the 70's.

only problem is my mother in law be bullshittin on the food. I'm going to have to go in this year and throw some pans around.

13201208, the dream = tropical clims
Posted by PG, Tue Oct-10-17 11:37 AM
I've yet to encounter a place too hot for me... i'm sure they must exist.
13201227, agreed.
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Oct-10-17 11:58 AM
i get why the rich old folks move to those joints.

Posted by PG, Tue Oct-10-17 10:58 AM
when I was a kid my mom bribed me with a whole pumpkin pie to myself to keep my room tidy for an entire month.... these days I don't really dig it.. everybody else does.
13201204, LOL
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Oct-10-17 11:34 AM
13201184, nah y'all do it too late...
Posted by PG, Tue Oct-10-17 11:03 AM
weather was awesome yesterday... and having a stat was a fricking boon and a half.
13201206, lol
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Oct-10-17 11:36 AM
i want to have Xmas and NYE in a summer climate.

i want that forever but i'll settle for a vacay in the Southern Hemisphere at first. like Rio.

but i'm ready to never live in winter weather ever again. i hates it.
13201209, gospel

13201226, RE: EEEK! y'all do it too early.
Posted by Hamsterline, Tue Oct-10-17 11:57 AM
Because we are north of you, our harvest occurs earlier than yours.
13201236, good point
Posted by PG, Tue Oct-10-17 12:04 PM
didn't even occur to me.
13201238, oh yes, i'm hip.
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Oct-10-17 12:04 PM
and that's still too early.

then again, that's also way too far north.

i guess they explained all of this to me in school.

like, when the Europes came over here by boat and saw the Caribbs in all of its tropical wonderful glory i don't get how they went back to living in the Game of Thrones style hell that was Europe. but...then again back then the Caribbs didn't have the trappings of even olde Europe. so that's a tough choice. and so when it was time to put down the roots and have a go at making a Euro-style life over here...they went up there b/c it was sorta a familiar climate but all of the stuff they really wanted was down there closer to the Equator. i just...i mean, i dunno. i feel like if this was me being an awful pillaging raping thieving motherfucking evil bastard i'd have focused further south. until i saw that wind/rain/cyclone shit come through every year. but...snow? SNOW??? ICE????? for 6 months? nah.

the problem for the Euros is by the time they found Southern Cali it was way late in the 'game'. b/c this is the shit they didn't even know they wanted until they found it.

of course, it was a desert. but they stole some water and made it work. thank goodness! god bless it. i'll stand for that shit. and put a hand over my heart and pour out some tears for the first nations.

goddamn.

stealing other ppl's land full of tough choices.

i wouldn't have chosen Canada is my point. not when Southern California (which was only Mexico for like a few minutes, really) was right there for the taking (Manifest Destiny and all that jazz).
13201228, hot weather and Thanksgiving/Xmas is a no no..
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Oct-10-17 11:58 AM
that shit is weird to me.

I don't like cold weather but that's the one time I will allow it.

When I see folks in sandals in photos for Xmas that shit seems like a lie. Like it ain't really Xmas.

13201235, no christmas for the equatorial regions eh?
Posted by PG, Tue Oct-10-17 12:03 PM
or the southern hemisphere for that matter?..what're they supposed to do? celebrate the birth of the antichrist?
13201244, basically
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Oct-10-17 12:13 PM
13201289, Canada is so fucking weird lol
Posted by Amritsar, Tue Oct-10-17 01:54 PM
lets just go ahead and annex Diet America
13201291, there's no 'there' there.
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Oct-10-17 02:01 PM
do we need another Chicago/NYC/SF (aka 'Toronto')?

do we need another SF/Seattle (aka 'Vancouver')?

we don't need another Houston (though the one we have now has water-damage so we might actually need another Houston) (aka 'Calgary')?

we already have Salt Lake City so what's Regina doing for us?

Quebec? ain't Louisiana enough trouble?

Montreal is cute, i hear. and way less drama than New Orleans. can we carve that out and have it? of course we can. we did it in East Germany bc we liked half of Berlin.

it's Manifest!

but they can keep the rest of Canada. we'll take Montreal.
13201296, you guys will be fighting each other before you get this far.
Posted by PG, Tue Oct-10-17 02:06 PM
these days smelling like total collapse at worst or a repeat of the 1860's at best down there.
13201335, the country would collapse if it took on new states.
Posted by SoWhat, Tue Oct-10-17 04:09 PM
especially new states that're mostly frozen tundra.

no way.
13201567, Even their version of ESPN is a rip-off

13201333, I had that day off when I supported IBM Canada.
Posted by JFrost1117, Tue Oct-10-17 04:06 PM
We were all in Atlanta, supporting IBM Canada, and getting Canadian holidays off, but never got American holidays off.
13201338, I had the opposite problem when working for SAP 'cept worse
Posted by PG, Tue Oct-10-17 04:17 PM
none of my own stats off and then we had mandated fun/team building days during yours... the only good thing was time and a half for pay and sometimes the mandated fun days weren't bad sometimes you'd rather just work though.
13201713, What cultural foods did y'all eat?
Posted by Kira, Wed Oct-11-17 02:51 PM
What's the Canadian equivalent of Australia Day?

What does PG and fam do on Boxing Day?

Toronto is one of the grimiest places in the world but I love it because of the kind hearted nature of people.

What can America trade for Trudeau? Canada does not receive Trump in any trade proposal now let's get these negotiations started.
13202285, RE: What cultural foods did y'all eat?
Posted by PG, Fri Oct-13-17 10:52 AM
cranberry stuffed turkey (punishment food in my book)

>What's the Canadian equivalent of Australia Day?

I don't think there is one really we have Canada day on July 1st but that's closer to an independence day which Australia also has Jan 1st along with the Australia Day which is like the 26th or something and about the first british ships arriving.

>What does PG and fam do on Boxing Day?

usually chill and clean up after Christmas... drive my kids back to their mother's... might consider shopping but usually not.

glad you'r not trying to pawn off el cheeto grande on us.... not sure it's worth or prime minister but I'd take some more concerts from a variety of different acts and a better boxing scene.. and something in the tropics or near tropics, we have nothing with really nice weather.
