when i read those things i remind myself those folks are a tiny slice of humanity. that most __ ppl didn't read whatever article and of those who read most didn't comment. and those who did comment are likely on the extreme of whichever side they seem to be taking. that most ppl are more in the middle.

i don't think there's much more to learn from comment sections. i think they can present a slanted view of __ ppl. and it's easy to fall into nasty prejudices by reading those things. it's easy to develop false ideas about "the other" from reading those.
