I miss the feeling you had before making that first phone call to a new shorty or that anticipation before a school dance.

that time when I was just seriously fucking around just drinking all the time, partying in the bay area, no responsibility, just hanging the fuck out.

about what i had to do the next day.

I was talking to this intern at my job the other day, saying how i was mad tired from working a 2nd gig the night before...didn't get home til 12. She was looking at me like i was crazy on some ' you tired from that' i was like damn, i'm old.

in knowing that she does like you. throwing her to the curb once the novelty wears off lolol

once i found out a girl was feeling me tooo she automatically dropped like a whole point on the scale lol

I wake up at 5:45-6am every morning. Got a job. Kids. Housework. Hobbies. Last night I was struggling to keep my eyes open at 10:30pm. Some weekends I think about going out, but the look at the clock and realize it's only 9:30 and I'm already getting sleepy.

but then i realize by the time i'm ready to come home shit aint even poppin' yet, so what's the point. haha. going out is dinner and drinks at this point, then usually home by 9, 10 at the latest.

about how the time we are getting home used to be the time we would be getting ready to go out.

I went to sleep last night at 10PM and the baby woke up at 1:50 AM and I thought it was morning already.

even if we get a date night, we prefer to go to the movie around 4pm and have dinner after so we won't fall asleep during the movie Haha.

only exception is if there's a show to go to. that's the only time i see myself out past 12.

Holy shit.

We don't leave out until like 8ish. Depending on what we're doing I think the latest we've gotten home was 2am.

that was the real difference maker. we were out later before kids came, but also 7 years younger Haha.

We hire a sitter through a service. We don't want him to be affected by being left alone with a 'stranger' so we leave out around his bedtime.

Usually we can get our preferred sitter, but sometimes she's not available.

and generally speaking, i'm up later than my wife. i can hang longer than she can. we can occasionally go out late(r) or even go out of town because both grandmothers are in the vicinity, but we don't do that too much. if we sleep in the same house as them, though, we (she, at least, sometimes she lets me rock) gotta get up early so there's not too much late night happenings.

granted I was blazed and drinking but when they started doing the background singers solos I had to get up and walk around... splash water on my face.

passive stack that money for hobbies or kicks or whatever

away lol....

I've accepted this as my life for the next 6 years though...
I'm gonna be feeling like I got a raise when I hit 46!

Even though I miss all of the above, plus more, I'm blessed by the growth.

that shit was a big deal. We would go up town and get new outfits because this was the one day you would see mad females from different schools around the Burgh. If you were able to get with a girl or 2 and ride a few rides you were the shit.

And it dawned on me a few days ago that I miss Atlanta.

stopping at random places, taking photos..

and stopping so my dad could smoke...lol

Now, I'm the parent taking the kids on road trips. Mind blown.

'cause we didn't nary a device to play on in the 70's/80's.

just sat in the back seat with action figures and maybe a comic book... until years later when my brother got a gameboy.

every summer my town had a reunion for all the Black folk. We would rent a clipper boat and ride up to the Point on the river. DJ and a dance floor and everyone's elders brought food and our parents would be on the top floor of the boat smoking and sipping on bottles cause they didn't want to pay for drinks.

Man.. that was the shit. When we brought people from out of town they couldn't believe all these people grew up together. Then you had friends who would bring their cousins from out of town. It was like some Inkwell shit for real.

Then after the boat ride we all went down to the "club which was the black VFW. All the out of towners would be FADED after 2 drinks because they were strong as fuck. I'm talking $2.50 Gray Goose doubles. Saw the toughest city niggas sleeping at the bar like babies.

we used to play hide and seek when we were kids on the boat then graduated to slow dances and grinding. Still remember my dad in the bathroom smoking a joint with his crew telling me he saw me on the dance florr with so and so's daughter and how I better sue a rubber.

I ain't even know what a rubber was. I was 12.

- hanging out at a bar/lounge and not having to compete with a woman's phone for her attention. no distractions.

- being single '01-03 on the neo-soul timeline...and thinking it was deeper than deep.

- making half of what i do now, but ironically making more sensible financial decisions.

When I use to wake up in the morning my parents would be up doing things, cooking, watching the news, waking us up. I woke up to life already in action.

I had no day job from 1998 to 2016. Working from home, making my own schedules, being productive both professionally and personally.

The past year and a half has been the motherfucking pits. Drive. Work. Drive. Sleep. Drive. Work. Drive. Sleep. Do nothing of consequence. Zombie shit.

Got about 2 more months until this little one should start sleeping through the night.
