It's a bit different then lets say an corporate sex scandal cover-up where you hope it fades away; not only would they be on the hook legally the show is one of their cash cows and any further damage would hurt their pockets; it would be in their best interest to cut any of the cancers out immediately even if producers/cast, etc gotta fall on the sword.
