13135568, Lowbrow foods that you somehow love.
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu Mar-16-17 12:39 PM
This post is inspired by my mother in law’s love for Vienna Sausages.

Those things smell wretched and taste even worse but she absolutely loves them. It’s generational I suppose because she’s certainly not the only one.

As for me, I have two:

1. Arby’s beef & cheddar. It’s awful….ly delicious. I’ve craved those things like Harold & Kumar craved White Castle and I absolutely hate myself for it. It’s a massive sodium bomb.

2. Frozen Salisbury Steak. Not, like, mom or grams in the kitchen serving up a homecooked beef patty an gravy, but Banquet frozen Salisbury steak. Where do these people get the balls to call those rubber shoe soles “steak”? Is this is even technically food? I’m pretty sure they grind this up to make tennis balls.

But somehow I love it. My wife feels about this the way I feel about her mom’s Vienna sausages. She’d never had it and literally spit out the first bite and, in her words, forbid me to eat it. She was joking of course, but only so much. She couldn’t believe I actively wanted that for dinner one night.

Anyhow… ad on.
13135571, haha good post. i'm trying to think of what mine are/would be.

If fast food counts as lowbrow, sign me up for them. I've eased off Taco Bell but BK, McD's, Wendy's, Sonic, Steak & Shake (they're slow as hell tho), KFC. Popeye's, Lee's, Arby's, Krystal's & White Castle are all in play.

Tombstone Pizza is (was?) my frozen pizza of choice. Before the woman moved in, I used to keep 1 in the freezer for those, "I don't feel like cooking," nights.

Hungry Man frozen diners. Same as above I used to keep one of these in the freezer too.

Doesn't it smell like vomit?

I was at a restaurant with a bunch of work people, and one of the women there ordered fettucini alfredo. she asked for ketchup and smothered the pasta with it. I swear to GAWD it smelled exactly like fresh vomit.
13135631, Nope. The tomato sauce is different than the ketchup.
Posted by Teknontheou, Thu Mar-16-17 01:59 PM
The tomato sauce is basically a stripped down version of a jar of Ragu or Francesco Rinaldi.
13135653, That's the alfredo mixed with the tomato
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu Mar-16-17 03:15 PM
Parm and ricotta tend to produce a different scent when mixed with tomato sauces.
13135711, Ketchup smells like vomit to me
Posted by dustin, Thu Mar-16-17 06:24 PM
I remember back in my IHOP dishwasher days I would powerblast plates with the faucet hose to clean them off ... Ketchup and salad dressing always produced the most foul-smelling mists

McDonalds, mostly on road trips. I had a double quarter pounder in Santa Barbara not too long ago (at the birthplace of the Egg McMuffin!) and it was fucking prepared expertly. Heaven.

Crispy tortilla shells for the tacos, cheddar instead of mexican cheeses, lettuce, shit like that. I mean, yeah, the authentic mexican tacos from your local truck or taqueria are going to be better, but sometimes I want some gringo shit.

Taco Bell is whatever, but Del Taco is the business. LA Peeps should be familiar with Tito's Tacos, that's probably the best crispy taco with cheddar spot. I even love the Jack in the Box tacos.

Take them home, heat them up and try to have your own White Castle in your living room.

That pretty interesting; that's essentially what you get from most fast food chains anyway since the burgers are simply reheated by the workers anyway and aren't actually prepared at the restaurant.
13136624, you do know they cook the meat at fast food places?

13136971, When I say cook
Posted by Numba_33, Wed Mar-22-17 07:56 AM
I mean actually seasoning and preparing each burger patty as it is ordered; the majority of fast food chains do not do this as the food is shipped to each location pre-made and all the workers have to do it re-heat the trucked and frozen food.
13137448, if you say so.

13135964, 7-11 beef patties
Posted by spenzalii, Fri Mar-17-17 02:14 PM
Normally I consider any heated food from 7-11 worse than one of Apu's hot dogs, as any one of their Big Bite concoctions can cause raging intestinal issues. But their beef patties, which I"m sure is an open affront to any of Jamaican decent, is actually on point. I hate myself for liking them, but will walk out the store with 2 hot ones and a Slurpee any day
13136329, I was all over those a couple years back. they fuck me up tho

They are the only store that bends the rules for people on welfare to heat things up.

I can only eat one cheeseburger from 7-11 then i am done and don't want to eat food for a while. For me it's some kind of diet. Do you add the cheese sauce and chili from the dispenser?

I once chased a homeless man down 2 blocks to give him one. He said "Thanks" so sarcastically lol. He said he wanted money for food so i forced him to eat one of those burgers.

13136246, QuickTrip coffee and donut
Posted by bigkarma, Sat Mar-18-17 11:38 PM
Ya'll keep those high ass hipster coffee houses or Starbucks...even Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Kreme. I can walk into QuickTrip or Racetrac and get a decent cup of coffee and a big tasty ass apple fritter with the change I find under my car seat.

..and don't sleep on the refill cup. Once, there was a line at QT and the cashier just waived me on because it wasn't worth the effort of even ringing me up.
13136256, QT is where I started getting into coffee/cappuccino like that.
Posted by JFrost1117, Sun Mar-19-17 02:16 AM
There's still not a Starbucks close to me, but there's about 4-5 QT's and RaceTrac's in any direction I leave home. They're the reason I like coffee flavorings more than actual coffee. I don't give a shit how deep a roast is, but if a place got some dope ass creamers, I'm in heaven.
13136317, if I buy a bag of pizza rolls, I'm eating them that night

There is a rare kind that you can't buy in the multipacks. You have to buy them in 1s. Creamy Chicken Ramen Noodles it's better than normal ones. I call it "Soup of a 1000 chickens"

So it's hand painted frame by frame. It's a Lumiere film so they only had like 1 minute of footage back then.

You have to buy them individually with the 3 for a dollar deal instead.

They make you do ala carte for the best crappy noodles.
