13117610, Bug out bags. You got one? Tips?

Yamean?

Not suggesting anything is going to go down but its time I start thinking about preparedness.

When I lived in CA I was reckless as fuck and never had earthquake gear ready to go

I'm older and responsible now.

You holding?

What you holding?

13117642, Hate to break it to you bruh, but you ain't making it out of NYC
Posted by flipnile, Tue Jan-24-17 01:30 PM
Unless you get hip and peace out early. Way too many choke points up there (bridges and tunnels).

Anyway, I have a bag but it's mostly survival comping stuff like knives, space blankets, first aid, fishing line, small tools, a compass, waterproof matches, flashlight (wind-up), etc.

My advice to only put things in your bag that you wont use regularly. You want you bag to be packed and ready to go, without worrying if you replaced the bandages that you used or put that knife back. Oh, and put your stuff in a sturdy backpack with a waterproof cover (or use a trash bag) and a chest or waist strap.
13117649, exactly. I'm in Chicago.

Exactly. We had a log jam and people had to abandon their cars during a snowstorm. Imagine some real world changing shit.

I'm just gonna get myself a sharpened stick and some face paint and deal with whatever comes. Join up with a Warlord or some shit.

Lmao
13117928, On foot he could
Posted by Paps_Smear, Wed Jan-25-17 11:02 AM
Too much traffic otherwise. No vehicle would mean a lot more work than the average person would be willing to do.

Hope he knows someone right outside of the city.
13118326, There will be 5 million people on foot as well
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Jan-26-17 10:54 AM
His best bet is to lock his doors and pray or do like Shogun and link up with a Warlord.

The savagery in NYC will be epic.

13118526, in all honesty a bicycle is probably your friend
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Thu Jan-26-17 03:42 PM
i mean NYC is a unique situation but a bicycle would be almost invaluable
13118737, RE: in all honesty a bicycle is probably your friend
Posted by astroman71, Fri Jan-27-17 10:43 AM
What's the over/under on how long someone could keep a bike as they pedal pass a few million people stuck in traffic or walking on foot?

Whatever it is, I'll take the under....
13118746, depends on if you're packin
Posted by Paps_Smear, Fri Jan-27-17 10:52 AM
You can "try" to take my bike.

Be better off just letting me peddle along.
13118752, and don't have loved ones with you.
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jan-27-17 10:56 AM
If you live in a dense urban area just tap out or be ready to kill kids and women to let motherfuckers know you aren't fucking around.

I suggest watching War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise. You aren't driving or riding past people on foot while they give you the right of way.

It's going down and it will be ugly as hell.

I'm close enough to the coast to drive on one tank of gas. From there I either steal someone's boat or live with my inlaws and hope those solar panels do the job. There are tons of old people and retired folks so I could strong arm canned good and fish off the pier for a while.

13118923, a bicycle isnt just a means of escape
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Fri Jan-27-17 02:38 PM
its a mode of transportation, how you choose to use it in this hypothetical SHTF situation is entirely up to you
13118929, what other ways can you use a bike?
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jan-27-17 02:42 PM
13118951, the exact same way you use your bike or any other mode of

let me ask you a question

where would you rather be in a time of crisis?

in the sticks where you are alone where you would have to be incredibly self reliant

or

in a community where your neighbor can become an ally?

I've lived through the center of the LA riots

Sure, people rioted and burned shit but at the same time when shit was burning on the first night neighbors were hosing each other's garages down when they went up in flames to stop the fire from reaching the houses.

Humans are designed to work with each other.

At the same time however, I am keenly aware of how shitty we are to each other.

these DIY AR-15's are looking attractive. I got a lot of the tools, but I ain't no gunsmith...fk around and shoot myself in the face.

I was off that https://www.80-lower.com/

for a minute. one of my boys said if I buy it, he'll fry it.

we gon see.

13118486, no its a legal loophole. Those receivers are the real deal
Posted by double negative, Thu Jan-26-17 02:53 PM
but they bypass a legal loop where its ok to sell and buy a non machined receiver and its legal to buy a machine that will machine the item for you.
13117932, You wouldn't shoot yourself
Posted by Paps_Smear, Wed Jan-25-17 11:04 AM
No rounds in the AR makes that impossible lol

Go to the range and try one out first.

I'm tryna hit the range ASAP; I got an older cat I hang with supposed to be puttin me on. I gotta get the heat first.

"soon as I get my tax return"

its pretty easy and theres tons of people with videos doing builds,
13117669, no I need to get on board though

13117671, If you weren't in NYC I'd recommend a firearm as well
Posted by flipnile, Tue Jan-24-17 02:43 PM
Shotgun, rifle, pistol or revolver. Something for the house.
13117683, you can't have a gun for the house in nyc?
Posted by double negative, Tue Jan-24-17 03:00 PM
13117841, Looks like you need a license just to own a gun in NYC:
Posted by flipnile, Wed Jan-25-17 07:46 AM
http://newyorkcityguns.com/getting-a-nyc-handgun-permit/

Tho I imagine the license is probably FAR easier to get than the city carry permit, which I heard only law enforcement and rich folks really get.
13117937, I'm down for one in the house. anything else is excessive
Posted by double negative, Wed Jan-25-17 11:09 AM
im not interested in having a damn shootout on the street

however, having a nice over under shotgun for home protection would be ideal
13117942, I feel you. I have the same logic.
Posted by flipnile, Wed Jan-25-17 11:13 AM
I keep a firearm in the crib, but I've never carried out in the street.
13118153, this is where I am...my joint will never leave the house...
Posted by Dstl1, Wed Jan-25-17 05:17 PM
unless I'm going to a range.
13118256, just to add if you are truely preparing for the worst
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Thu Jan-26-17 01:23 AM
I recommend a rifle (shotgun is good because of reliability and ability to shoot multiple types of ammo) as well as a handgun

a 30/30 is also an amazing rifle for these situations

I also recommend 9mm for the handgun as most everyone can shoot it and ammo cost/availability
13118518, Ammo is important too. I mean, folks better not wait until it gets real out...
Posted by flipnile, Thu Jan-26-17 03:36 PM
...before trying to stock up on cartridges. Gun shop's gonna be fresh out or closed.
13118521, ya, i recommend buying online if you are in a friendly state
