13109221, you doing anything for NYE?
Posted by tariqhu, Mon Dec-26-16 01:47 PM
my wife wants to go see dancing with the stars. she kinda weird tho. I want to go to a concert with some old head rappers. I don't really want to be pay for either option, although the concert can be done for less money.

we both like to shake a leg or two, so I'm checking out other options that are smaller and not as pricey.

we'll prolly stay home :)

13109508, I'm home/my brother is an asshole...
Posted by Trinity444, Tue Dec-27-16 03:57 PM
he's the type that when he drinks he makes promises and then changes his mind when he sobers up. A party was planned at his house. he calls my mother a few hours ago, talking about "have it at your house because he don't want them niggas tearing up his house"

my mother is pissed. she fought about canceling it just to make a point. I guess we'll be here. eating and drinking and making fun of my brother...

13109527, guess you'll be watching
Posted by tariqhu, Tue Dec-27-16 04:30 PM
ryan seacrest too.

I'm still debating on going out. not only because of the cost, but just not sure if I want the going out hassle.

getting dressed up, getting there, making sure the kids are good, blah, blah.
13109583, yeah. She canceled it.
Posted by Trinity444, Wed Dec-28-16 07:25 AM
I might head back to Charlotte...
13109521, i was invited to what i call a "potluck party" and i'm starting to hate
Posted by BigJazz, Tue Dec-27-16 04:19 PM
those.

how you gonna invite me over and i gotta bring 2 bottles of champagne, a fif of JW Black, and 50 wings? if i'm bringing all that, i might as well keep in and host the shit myself.

broke people shouldn't host.

i've also been invited to an annual house party that i've enjoyed in the past but there's some drama within the hosts house that caused them to call the party off and then call it back on again.

drama + emotions + likka & smoke = too many question marks and potential for nonsense.

i been deflecting those "what'chu doin for NYE" questions from people that are waiting for me to invite them over to my house cuz i don't wanna host this year. not in the mood...

I ain't lyin. This shit i'm making up is true...

13109569, Same.
Posted by SP1200, Tue Dec-27-16 08:22 PM
That good NYE DJ bonus lol. NYE is like the bonus check for DJ's lol.
13109572, a bonus is always a win.
Posted by tariqhu, Tue Dec-27-16 08:48 PM
I don't get mine until March.
13109618, Maaaaan look!! In this case, I charged them a pretty high amount
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Wed Dec-28-16 10:59 AM
Which was to include my DJing services and to supply sound. Then...they asked "so what type of sound system do you need us to rent?" I'm like ohhhh, i'm getting paid that much and don't even have to supply or rent sound??? Hell yea!
13110093, YESSIR!!
Posted by SP1200, Fri Dec-30-16 09:37 AM
I always DJ at this restaurant bar where I DJ every Saturday anyway.
Literally walking distance from my house so I love it lol.

I just plug in to their sound system and go!
13109571, do you ever get tired
Posted by tariqhu, Tue Dec-27-16 08:47 PM
of DJing or are there certain events/times of year that you'd rather not?
13109619, I really don't get tired of it, I just hate having to set up
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Wed Dec-28-16 11:03 AM
Speakers and all that. That's really the worst part.

I also feel i'm past the point of DJing for certain type crowds or events. One of the wildest things about DJing for some of us is that we can do a high profile event one day, where everyone treats us like a celebrity (hell, including celebrities), then the next day, we are getting cussed out by somebody's auntie for not playing The Wobble early enough. I'm just at the point where I turn down 30-40% of the gigs i'm offered if I just don't feel like dealing with certain type crowds.
13109624, haha

I never thought about working with diff types of crowds. in my mind DJs are either always playing for aunties only or clubs only. I know that's not real, but that's just kinda what I see, but I guess that's how you move up.
13109678, I meaaaan....for a lotta HUGE DJ's, yeah they only do clubs and
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Wed Dec-28-16 01:24 PM
events where there's no annoying Aunties. Hell, when Questlove said he had never even heard the Wobble or seen the dance before until two years ago, I knew he was far removed from doing that type shit.

But this is actually how a lotta folks feel, and it's why I try not to do as many BBQ's, 50th B-Days, and family type events anymore...just not the same prestige, even though they may actually pay as much or more than poppin clubs. It's hard though, because as a club DJ, unless you really have a huge, huge following, and you're in the highest of high demand, you're dependent on club promoters or owners to keep hiring you. I've seen so many top club DJs fall off within the last 6-8 years.
13110096, RE: I meaaaan....for a lotta HUGE DJ's, yeah they only do clubs and
Posted by SP1200, Fri Dec-30-16 09:46 AM
I'm trying to get to this level. I'm a niche DJ anyway kinda in a
similar lane as Quest, but I can't play the celebrity card yet where
that's what people around the world expect from me. I personally know
lesser known DJ's from Philly even that travel around the world
playing vinyl, funk, and breaks. I'm on trajectory to be on that
level within a couple years.

13109622, Continuing a 15 year tradition of staying sober on NYE

It's a good way to enter the New Year and provides some perspective on what I and other people are doing/not doing with their lives when you drink and act like an idiot. Thinking of kicking off an official 2 month beer/carb/sugar free run with it.

good luck on the 2 month deal. I don't know if I have the kind of discipline. hence, I can't get rid of this belly.
13109942, Never a discipline thing with me, just boredom and anxiety

this last part....somehow I read handcuffs instead of handfuls.

I'm still debating. dancing with the stars sold out. so either the old head concert, club/hotel, or chill at the house.
13109868, Not a damn thing... lol

I turned up the system. even got a new set up over the last year or so so downsize them old ass speakers I had.
13109887, Nah, probably my least favorite holiday
Posted by DJR, Thu Dec-29-16 12:31 PM
And I'm mad that it fell on the weekend this year. No days off from work, and it completely jacks up the weekend because all kinds of people are out acting stupid, and cops are pulling over everyone in sight just fishing for a DUI. Staying home.
13109889, you don't get monday off?

Beef filet, shrip scampi, dill potatoes, and roasted brocolini. Wine and champagne as well. We **may** have some friends over, but I imagine we'll be dolo.

After eating, I figure we'll watch some shit on the DVR, watch the local feed at midnight, and go to sleep.
13109927, that's a good set up

Make some good play money. I might be able to clean up on NYE and NYD. Sheeeeit!

Just got the good text too to notify me of the "2x surge" rate. I just need to get the energy gathered to go hard overnight and to get right back up to drive more on Sunday.

If I don't go out, I'll be in the house making a gumbo for Sunday and chillin with my fair lady.
13109971, I'd be too scurred to uber

13109968, they were doing that around my way too

13109975, its weird I've lived here for 8 years
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Thu Dec-29-16 04:32 PM
and this was the first year I noticed it especially on Christmas, must be some new neighbors somewhere.

I was mad too cause I was out walking the dogs when I heard the shots and they sounded like they were just far enough way to make me really worried about falling bullets
13109976, sounds just like mine.
Posted by tariqhu, Thu Dec-29-16 04:36 PM
I was taking my dog out back and shots fired. my dog was trying to poop and more shots rang out. he pulled the poop back in lol.

I had never heard shots on xmas before this year either.
13109983, LOL that fool said nope! this can wait!
