I've been listening to a lot of James Brown lately,
that James Brown commercial with Papa don't take no mess, gets me hyped everytime. Really ever James Brown song gets me hyped everytime. For this funk, hip-hop, soul stuff we all love, He is everything.

13109144, My favorite musician of all time. Posted by denny, Sun Dec-25-16 11:24 PM
And I'd contend the most influential American music artist of all time too. Will absolutely NEVER NEVER NEVER leave my rotation. And will NEVER NEVER NEVER go out of style. Put that music on for children and they will act a fool before they can even talk and walk.

13109150, DA GAWD, he and George Clinton were the seminal forces behind hip hop Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Mon Dec-26-16 12:30 AM
among other styles.
Had a chance to see him when he was pretty old.
One of my dad's frat buddies kept trying to see him in Philly, Jersey and NYC and eventually gave up. Several times he waited in long lines for tickets and when he got close to the window, a group of people would beat his ass and kick him out of line. I thought of him when I went for sure.
In his youth and middle age the guy just had incredible energy. He could dance, he could wail and he could take a riff on a loooooong ride. Loved the JBs, too. Huge piece of American music right there, his legacy will live on way longer than any of us.

13110027, 26 years ago today I was married Posted by janey, Thu Dec-29-16 06:43 PM
as part of the prayers for the faithful, we prayed for prisoners of soul. Only a few people knew we were referring to the Godfather of Soul.
It worked, of course. He was sentenced to six years but only served 2, and was released 60 days after our wedding, on February 27, 1991.
My work was done. But I waited a few more years before divorcing that dickwad (not the Godfather -- my now ex-husband).
