The only off-limits female friendships I have are ones where I'm friends with the man too.
I have one friend who was promiscuous in college but now has been with the same guy for about 5 years. It's happened multiple times that we'll be chilling and it's her, her man, and about 8 others but it will be about 4-5 dudes in the room total who've smashed said girl. I always wonder if her man knows or not, because she has A LOT of male friends. And most of those smashes were of the "we're just friends but we got drunk one night..." type. If I was her dude I would've asked "So what's your history with {Bob,Bill,George,Frank,...}?" but who knows if she'd be honest or not.
I also hope he never asks me about it... cuz I am better friends with her but the bro code would have me on some Larry David-level of conflicted.
